I remember when everyone was bashing sony small sensor (1/2.3) and said it couldn't beat lumia 1020 (2/3) but now everyone praising it LOL. GOOD JOB SONY!
I wonder how SONY Z1 pictures would look if it uses 2/3 sensor. Perhaps it could beat 808 PV

What I'm interested to see is the showdown between S4 Zoom and Z1. equal size sensor, It'll give us an idea how superior/inferior Sony's sensor/lens/ISP tech is
I still remember when 5mp 1/2.5" sensors on iMobile 902, LG KG920 and N95 are hype (2007~), would be interesting to see how much has improved over these years

Better? difficult to say, I feel the Z1 has better exposure through the entire image. It feels like a normal cybershot image like one would take with a compact camera where as the 1020 image feels over exposed in some areas and underexposed in other. The Z1 photo feels more natural.
Can't wait for the z1 to hit poland, an finally replace my S2.
I think it's just the differences on how the two handles the metering, 1020 chooses to expose the skies(hence the punchier blue), while Z1 exposes the center frame where the turret is situated. what's weird though is the prominent corner softness visible on 1020 samples by looking at the tree foliage.
The Lumia 1020 has all the same traits as all Lumia phones, noisy with awful smudged details and blurry overall. Not what I would expect from Pureview.

^^ And I wasn't aware of that TBH if what you're saying is true then I think there'll be no more windows lumia devices that'll be close the 808's caliber.
Z1 Camera shines at binned 8mp mode IMO 20mp is mixed bag TBH, you get tons of details but also noise

what is that crap about iphone having a sony camera? pffft... i don't think so. apple is surely using a non-sony sensor this time around..
According to who?
I was fully expecting them to do an LG and use the 13mpx Exmor RS from Sony, and back it up with OIS if they felt like it..... |

For those people who are upset about xperia z1 not having IOS. I've seen videos from z1 and it's stable and not shaky and I've seen low light sample from xperia z1 and it looks incredible and even better than 1020 with OIS. Why does z1 needs OIS again?

What Bonovox says is true.
After Nokia switched to Windows Phone their camera processing suffered greatly!
Noise, grain, over processing, over saturation, literally all Lumia phones suffer from this, 1020 is no exception. My guess is that Nokia was unable to properly port Symbian's image processing algorithms. Don't forget that a lot of people left Nokia, people like Damian Dinning, who were responsible for fine tuning images on Symbian. Symbian might have been an outdated Os, but it's image processing algorithms were very advanced.
Have a look at this image to summarize all Lumias,

It's kinda sad, as you said, there probably won't be a Nokia/Microsoft phone that matches Nokia 808 PureView. I really doubt it, it was the peak of Nokia's imaging achievements IMO. But the benchmark set by 808 is going to be hard to beat!

IMHO OIS finds its best use on video recording rather than still image, our smartphone lenses are so fast these days that I don't think they're lacking enough light to force shutter speed to compensate for it.
