What happened to the rendering of this page? (Firefox 1.5 browser)?
Mario, the chip is very new & much more advanced in the ARM achitecture than on the 6630 a 2yr old phone btw. Also 802.11b in this phone will keep costs down & will only slow down an 802.11g network if all devices (besides the joining p990i) are running 802.11g. This same thing happens with PDA's & laptops & desktop computers anyway so its nothing new. But for world travellers 802.11b is more likely available and usuable than an EXCLUSIVE 802.11g network that is setup NOT to allow an 802.11b device.
However I wish SE put in an 802.11b/g chip just to be safe. |

Dude the speed at which the cpu runs hasn't been a valid measure of processor speed for a long time now. It's not the same cpu line...

Its so annoying, and your comments, besides being often incorrect and fuming with lack of knowledge are just simply put, of no value to anyone I'm sure,
there I have it off my chest now, and just to clarify one more issue on the wireless speed is often a wireless network doesn't have a backbone connection of more than 2 or 3 megs, and the throughput that the "b" standard is capable of is more or less 7 or 8 megs real world throughput, I know here in sunny south africa, the fastest DSL connection is only 1 megs, trust me b will be fine  can't wait for this phone, I also heard some resellers in Dubai have stock but at crazy prices, can't be long before a release now.

And think about it. Does the connection speed really matter _that_ much after a few mbits? I mean the max space you can fill is 4 gigabytes anyways, and that gets eaten up pretty fast either way. Unless you want to watch streaming videos directly from the net, I don't really see the point of having the faster version if it adds to the price and the battery drain.

UK Forum members may be interested to know that the carphone warehouse website has updated it's "Coming Soon" for the P990. Last week it said "expected 2006", now it says "expected May 2006".
What a downer!
Also, I spoke to a customer services operator at Orange this week to see if they had a release date. It's not on any of their "soon" lists, and they're normally a few months ahead from what the operator said. |

I don't know if this is old news or not, but MobileWorld seems to have the P990 in stock.
I asked them:
--- How come can have the Sony Ericsson P990i in stock if this phone hasn't
been released yet?
And they responded:
---The phone is not oficially released yet but many vendors are already selling
it.
We also have the Sony Ericsson P990i in stock already.
We are always able to get the phones before the oficial release.

There is a flaw in their line of answering to your question. If not one of you changed the subject from your original question then it shouldnt be a confirmation of "We also have the Sony Ericsson P990i in stock already." Not picking on you at all, BUT if their double confirming the model as if its never been mentioned, either that store's correspondant doesnt speak or write English natively OR their bullshavicking you! In this case I tend to speak the later.
PLEASE !!! to EVERY1 DONT mention a retailer is selling it unless you have a photo of your purchase from them IN YOUR HAND with original (not searchable on the net) photo posted by you. It pains me and will piss people off that you mention some store having it just to waste others' time to research & found out that they dont.

you see all there is a difference between complaining, and arguing your own opinion.
Veteran members will know that I've been a P-series man since the P800 and with the release of my OSX.SE it showed I had dedicated.
It is also a fact that it is undoubtedly frustrating to hear rumours, when the phone is obviously known to the world and SE dont seem to even want to hint at an updated estimation.

Maybe because like Blizzard, they know the value in setting target windows, not target dates. If you set a date someone will hold you to it, esato and pretty much ANY community is absolutely cut throat with their crticism if the manufacturer misses a date.
If they set a window, "May" for instance, then it allows them that time to get it right, maybe it'll come out on the first, maybe it'll come out on the last, but if they meet the month then well done.
Blizzard does this with their software, they don't believe in giving peopel a date until the software is right, or as close to it as they want so the product is polished and not just a slap happy job.
Does any of this help cure my own impatience? Not at all! But still hoping they get it right. I remember the early days of the P800, some people loved the device, I did when I was using it too, but god.. I wanted to throw it out a window more times than not  |

Yes, I asked specifically for the P990 in the subject of the mail and the text you see, and I also found weird the double-confirmation.

do not purchase anything from mobile world, his sites keep on getting taken down for fradulent activity and he makes new bogus ones, that isnt the only domain he has tried scamming people on. Please people this guy is more bogus then anything. Wanna see ask him, if he has any reviews from people who have purchased or why he has gone through 15 domain varitations of mobile world lol |

the official release is suposed to be a stable and fully working version of P990. if you get it before, even if they have it, it's possible that it is an incompleted/buggy version.
