Finally Esato is back online.
I never got to hobnob with the peeps at Ysterplaat last night, something else came up but throughout the day I could hear the jets whizzing past my office (which is right on the harbour).
@francois: Sorry to hear about your mother...I know I'm tempting fate by saying this but I've never been robbed...either because I was too poor growing.
My greatest concern is for the safety of women and children...I mean, I'd hate to be a woman going out at night and somehow conditioning yourself to the reality that I might be raped...that's the tragedy of South Africa in 2006.

So did you guys celebrate National Braai Day? We had our braai at a picnic spot en route to George via the Outeniqua Pass, which is also one of the most breathtaking passes i've ever been thru.
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious. |

That is indeed a beautiful part of the country, Kryptik.
However, I didn't always have fond memories of the journey through part of the Outeniqua mountains from George to Oudtshoorn, as this was during the days of the final National Service intake in '93 of which I was part of; and the Infantry School in Oudsthoorn was renowned for not being an easy place to pass the Junior Leaders' Course...the phrase 'Lords of Discipline' comes to mind.
It was worth all the incredibly intense training once those that passed got our rank, but I wouldn't want to go through all that stuff again... 
Oh well, all character-developing experiences and I also have a lotta good memories with my platoon intertwined there; I always drive past the place whenever we drive from CT to EL or vice-versa. |

Had a bit of drama with that Mobile World simcard that I was trying to re-activate.
I topped up as per the local Carphone Warehouse store's advice, but still got the 'inactive SIM' message. I then phone their customer care number.
It was explained to me that the sim can only be re-activated through themselves, and that it would take a max of 48 hours.
Still no luck.
I phone again this morning. Apparently the problem is that because the number was originally ported to Mobile World from O2, the number was 'returned' to O2 when I hadn't used it for ages.
I was a bit miffed that this wasn't stipulated when I originally ported the number over; I have ported numbers several times to other networks in the past and had no such 're-porting' hassles, even after long periods of non-use on these spare phone's simcards.
They apologised and said that they would contact O2 and request the number back, but this could not be 100% guaranteed. As a gesture from their part, they offered me £20 (approx R260) airtime for free if I bought a new sim from them, which costs £10.
I will know within 14 days if they have managed to retieve the ported number back from O2.
Let's see what happens... |

National braai day? Every day is national braai day! Saturdays doubly so! We went to a braai at a friends house. Chicken tonight.
Just ended up at a dodgy bar, but they have amstel draft:) and the best is it is 3 blocks from work. The good thing, i doubt they will have kareoke during the working day:)
@ brix, same with me, never been mugged or robbed or attacked. I am quite the aware mofa when moving around. And tall and almost the right size to would have made a good body builder, so yeah.
Amstel. Yes. Make that two:) sorry, gotta go now. The brew is calling...

Oh yeah, the amstel drafts are 10 bucks. Most places charge about double that. Other than the crap music, and all the weird chaps buying me drinks, this place is not bad:) gotta get myself a chastity belt though, cos maybe they aint just drunk...what you say brix? You live in the Sa capitol of, well you know what:p

a friend of mine is a freelance photographer in CT and had to cover the CT Drag Queen competition, and the 'contestants' were all getting 'hot' when they started singing along to the classic song...

We went to the usual pool joint, he is getting his ass kicked by the suspected les bar chick,(she is not though, just been hurt) and paul, my other pal chatting to a les chick he dragged along. Why are lesbians always less pretty? lol! Sorry, the amstel speaks loudly. Have not had this much in quite a while. Good thing though:)

We've just got back from a birthday party at a Mexican restaurant called Cafe Sol in Greenwich, south-east London.
Binged on Burritos and Buds, then had a really 'nca' dessert called a 'Mississippi Mud Cake'.
Gee, took us ages to get back to our place; the Blackwall Tunnel that goes under the Thames River only had one lane open, so we literally crawled along until we reached the mouth of the tunnel entrance. There are quite a few options to cross the river ie. Tower Bridge, London Bridge, Dartford Tunnel, Rotherhithe Tunnel etc., but to get to these mighta taken just as long as crawling along the one we took. |

@ wanqa,Jim lives in the Docklands area, near the greenwich area as i understand.
We are home, sat outside for quite a while. Time for bed. Almost 5am! Taking tuesday off aswell. Would have with the holiday. The day jim flies back to uk, so might as well.

It's a particularly decadent type of chocolate cake.
As the name gives away, it originally got its name due to its colour being so similar to the mud found along the banks of the Mississippi River.
BTW, another good showing by the Gunners yesterday...up the Premiership ladder they climb. ManUre only managed to eek out a draw in their match.

Yup, the Docklands area is just north/the other side of the River Thames ( the Poms always put the name of the river second like this) from Greenwich, which is immediately south of the river.
Much of the Docklands area is continuosly under development, and is becoming an increasingly trendy area to stay as the old Docklands warehouses etc. have been completely converted into larny exec apartments. There seems to be steel n' glass construction work going on all around the area. The 'Limehouse' area of Docklands is an example. The computer-controlled Docklands Light Railway trains now also reach London City Airport in the area, and is very close to Beckton, where we stayed before we bought the house.
Whereabouts in Docklands does he stay?
BTW, dunno if he's into phones like the rest of us around here, but the Smartphone Show is gonna be right on his doorstep at the Excel Arena in Docklands next month.
Some useless info I suppose, but the nearset premiership football club to Greenwich is Charlton Athletic, where Shaun Bartlett, Mark Fish and a few other SA players have played for in years gone by.

@ wanqa,Canary walk is where he stays. Right across the river from Excel arena. I told him about the show. I have been slowly brainwashing him into being a phone nerd, having converted him to se and convinced him to go k800i as he loves my phone, but hey, there is better. Why not get it then. Anyway, family function. Time so get shots from the top of our hill( which is asapently a mountain none the less)

@da wanqsta: I couldn't watch the football but I don't expect anything less from the Gunners...got excited about Western Province but they still managed to lose against the Cats who were a better team- on the day.
Anyone seen Nacho Libre? I think I might watch it today, wanted to check it out last week but had a friend over for the weekend who's not into Jack Black.

I'm guessing Jim said Canary Wharf, which is on the Isle of Dogs in the Docklands area and the hub of where all the new corporate skyscrapers and trendy, avant-garde apartments have blossomed.
It's close but not quite across from the Excel Arena though; which is a little more east down the river. The London Arena is very close to where he stays.
