@ brix, you get certain pieces of hardware that are just hell on earth to install. TV cards are some of them. The worst back in the day for us was doing a video capturing card.
This is strange, my battery was fully charged this morning, and it is on 20-25% now...charging now, but still. I had no phone calls and made none, wrote no more than 5 smses. This calls for...(Big Deep Voice) Inspector Francoislr!

@francois: I got everything sorted out this morning but the bugger seemingly can't pick up any of the UHF channels...so it means, no MNET, eTV or SABC3...the coaxial cable connection in my apartment building is optimised for UHF reception so right now I'm getting grainy video through VHF. Some tinkering tonight should sort out the problem though. Wish me luck.
Jeez, I can't believe this... no-one said anything about JZ walking out of court a free man yesterday.

@ brix, sorry, I did not know he got loose...had a long day yesterday...was at work till jolly well 10 or 11pm, and have not kept up with news...So here goes:
The bastard! How could he? Just shows what friends in the right places can do...But then again, I do not know the full complete story, so informed judging will not come from this avenue. From what I have heard, the cookie can crumble both ways. But yeah, who is the guilty party? "The man" or the victim...So yeah, so JZee is free....Girls, watch out, just in case he is guilty...

Now that he got off I'm looking forward to the remix of uMshini'wam to Jay Z's "I love girls" beat or how about "Big Pimpin"?
Seriously though, there are just too many hurdles standing in Zuma's way to becoming president...he has proven that he is unfit...that's the only case the Pro-Mbeki faction need to make at next year's party conference when a new leader gets elected.

LMAO, brixtsa... won't be long and I'm sure there'll be remixes of that ilk doing the rounds.
In the Dispatch today, there's an article about the CEO of the Coega Development Corporation who apparently earns more than the prez's salary:
"COEGA Development Corporation (CDC) chief executive officer Pepi Silinga earns more than President Thabo Mbeki, the Pillay Commission heard yesterday.
The details of Silinga’s remuneration emerged as the commission’s chairperson Judge Ronnie Pillay questioned chief financial officer Paul Leese, on the financial “ins and outs” of the corporation.
The commission heard that inclusive of a salary and bonuses, Silinga earned in the order of R1,183 million for the 2004/5 financial period. Last year the National Assembly approved a total remuneration package of R1117199 a year for Mbeki. "
The word 'disparity' suddenly comes to mind...

@da wanqsta: Everyone keeps on making the comparison with how much people earn in relation to Mbeki's salary. It can't be compared. Mbeki flies first class in his own private jet around the world at taxpayers expense, he lives for free in several houses around the country at taxpayers expense, he eats free food, his political connections will mean that he lives the good life for long time.
On the other hand a CEO/COO/ or any other executive can be fired at a minutes notice...he does not fly around in the company's Lear jet...should shareholders find out they'll kick up a storm adn force him out...his salary is dependent on performance of the company's share price (not always the case in eMzansi) and should there be any whiff of scandal around him he'll be out of the door in no time. Basically he has to conduct his life like a monk but also make money like hooker turning out 90 tricks a day for her pimp.
Now tell me, would you either be Thabo Mbeki or some executive working either for a parastatal or a big corporate? I'd take Mbeki's job any day...avoid issues, don't do anything about Aids, try to act all aloof when confronted with difficult questions and generally leave your deputies( Essop Pahad comes to mind) to do the street fighting for you when you're not in the mood for verbal sparring sessions with a bunch of chihuahuas in parliament.

@francois - dilbert is the most exquisitely brilliant comic this earth has produced. E.tv ran a season of dilbert about 5(?) years ago. I remember my brother giving me odd glances every time i laughed. The tv series was damn good! Some people just dont appreciate the gloomier side to satire. It baffles me how someone can enjoy the simpsons after watching dilbert. Its like eating niknaks after a fine gourmet meal. Callow.

@da wanqsta: Sometimes I think our country is sick...My ambition is to sit on the board of one of these big companies...through some fong kong BEE deal a la Brett Kebble( and ANC Youth League sell-outs), pimp the system dry and live off the fat for a while. When I eventually get caught for all my shady deals I want to drive to prison in a luxury SUV and (and through my political connections) be isolated from common criminals and rapists by settling into a single cell with a tv and radio. That ain't too difficult..huh?
I use to think Capitalism was evil until I saw a bunch of Socialists sell their souls for Hugo Boss suits and Porsche Cayennes' while still claiming that capitalism an evil system...makes you think.

@ psychonymphe, I agree it is the best show. I can still watch Simpsons, but I don't crave it like I would crave some show like Dilbert. All the shows that are on that level fly over the heads of the masses, so then the people that need a higher level of entertainment(beyond the cuteness and good animation that makes the kids go "Ahhh!") gets pushed aside. TV caters for the masses, not for certain minority groups. So yeah. Speak of the devil, my daily dilbert just arrived.
Another comic strip I really enjoy is Calvin and Hobbes. Sometimes also satire, sometimes really deep and profound, sometimes just cute, but they never neglected the intellectual side. Maybe it was just my sentemental side that got attached to these 2 characters.

@Rhino: Can you make an informed comment that is not laced with racism? C'mon bro, you can do...how hard can it be...just start off with..."I think Zuma deserves..."
I'll be at work until late this evening.

Right, so JZ's case has been withdrawn, since Msimang felt that the state wouldn't be able to secure a conviction. To my mind there are a limited number of ways to have a case settled. A case can be withdrawn, or the accused can be found guilty or not guilty. Once a guilty verdict has been handed down, the convict runs the risk of further investigation leading to further charges against him. Should a not guilty verdict be handed down, the former accused cannot subsequently be tried on the same charges. However, when a case has been withdrawn, as in JZ's case, it doesn't imply guilt or innocence. It means that the investigating officers now have ample time to conduct exhaustive investigations, before opting to either bring fresh charges against an accused, or to let the matter slide. What is puzzling is why Ngcuka would've said, way back when all the fuss started, that he felt the state had a prima facie case, now Msimang says otherwise... Something smells rotten in the state of Denmark...
JZ's supporters are apparently in such a state of bliss that it seems to have escaped their attention that he hasn't been exonorated, not in the slightest. He has been granted a reprieve, however long it may be, until such time that the Attorney-General makes a definite ruling based on submissions by the state. Who knows, this whole mess may yet take on new and heretofore unseen twists...
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious. |
