Heard from the grapevine that Celtel is planning a major drop in its tariffs pretty soon. I cant wait for that to happen.
Meanwhile, I'm migrating to post paid plan on Celtel because of GPRS.

@amby: When Celtel finally walk their talk (why does that sound familiar? - yes! Mtel!!), I'll say something positive about them. So far, they have been a major disappointment.

@coola: Starcomms gave Maiduguri and Kano free local on-net calls for a year and a half! (not limited to friends and family). Can you beat that? I dont know what offer they intend on lauching but it has too be something!!

Boy! I will halt the next Reltel purchase to see what Starcomms has to offer. One year free on-net is an incredible offer. I will get all my pals into Starcomms, I promise.

Thanks AYA. From my trials during the free GPRS days, I know speed was the major reason Skype and Google Talk didn't perform as expected. I sure hope the CDMA networks deliver.

@Abu... maybe we can start a Naija Polical Talk thread somewhere here in Esato... or find another forum...except Nairaland (no offense to Seun)

hehehe good one! This new format sure takes some getting used to.

@all I am having trouble getting my pictures out of my Moto c261 (that some of u yabbed me for buying). I don't know if it is the phone or cable or the software. Normal it should show the pictures and allow me to download. These days, it keeps saying "Download fail" if it ever connects at all.

The picutures were taken durin my Clan's annual Boxing Day re-union and so contains some precious shots of Unc's, Aunts', Coz's, Nieces and Neph's. Deleting them is -pardon my pun- out of the picture.

Anyone used a Moto here? Any suggestions?

@Coola: Try uninstalling and re-installing the communications software, or if it is flash based, uninstall and re-install the device. This you can do by going to device manager under system.
Hope this helps.

The new Esato format did not confuse me. The quote was a reminder that other gist can take place besides tech and gsm. Abi here nor b meeting point for nigerians home and away.
@coola... I support your idea of a new thread. What are we going to call this thread?

I went to Celtel on Monday, and confirmed that gprs was exclusively reserved for contract lines and would cost 10k/kb download, which so far is the cheapest in the market.

Is this already available/active? The 10 kobo per kb is good.

How about news of this:

Great observation on Demmy's post. I really doubt if we can get such space here in Esato tho. Too many nosey ppl. And to get a forum with WAP access? I have decided to always chip in my political observations everytime I have one. Todays installment: Do u think INEC can finish printing 100 million voting slips with embossments in time for the elections one month away? No Voters Registers have even been displayed yet as at today!

On the issue of phones, CDMA is at the top of my list. If I hit a jackpot today, I will get a Walkman phone to celebrate. Right now, they are too expensive for my pocket.

Yes Aya, the gprs on contract lines is working, and the speed is good, but I do not have info on the "bundle gprs offer" I'll inquire about it when I go to submit my forms on Thursday.

@aya: 1gb isnt that much if you do serious browsing. Did some one say Oliver Twist?

@coola: lets leave the political gist here..... but like you said keep it to a minimum. I might be getting an awoof P910 so my dreams of P990 is squashed. Get a long list of interested parties in Starcomms!! I'll call you when i come to town.
Im not holding my breath for successful elections.

@amby Are u planning to use it for only WAP or u wanna venture to web browsing? Can't remember when last I used WAP.

@All Would you consider WAP and MMS a success or failure in the Nigerian GSM space. What does that say about 3G when it arrives? The Telcos are being asked to cough out $150 million USD....

@coolapostle:Like we've heard, the new 3G licences will cost nothing less than $150m.Strange,considering the fact that:
1.A lot of people have WAP and MMS capable handsets but are not even aware of this fact
2.Those who probably know, only use it when the occasional ad runs on tv about each network capability of such services. Also, even when do do want to use it,you have be sure the person you are sending it to has a WAp/MMS phone.
3.At the moment,I think the lowest cost per MMS is N50,Of course,u might want to say that MTN gives free MMS but how many people do use it due to point 1.
4.Setting up WAP/MMS services on your phone could sometime be a hassle with a network such as Glo who for some reason, think every1 use's a Nokia phone. And even when you call for a manual setup, you are told to come to visit one of their "worlds"
5.The service is quite expensive if you browse frequently on your phone,so one can only imagine how much such service will cost on 3G when or if they do acquire it.
A lot of commentators have voiced out on the cost of the 3G licences remindind the NCC of how pornographic costs made a not so lucrative bargain in Europe afterall.I read somewhere that madness is: doing the same thing then same way over and over and expecting a different result...
