Have a look in this thread for photograhpic evidence of the change in settings. You might want to play with them a little yourselves but I instantly noticed the over sharpening effect. Don't know why this is so high as default!!

The camera is not as good as on the P990 but if you set it properly (like it should have been) then it gets much closer in quality to the P990.

only had a little play with the settings so far, and in poor light but wow - makes such a difference with the sharpening turned to minimum. Cannot understand why this is set to +7 as default?! It made it look like someone had drawn lines between areas of different contrast.
The settings return to dumb default evertime my phone reboots, what's this about setting them in the registry to make it permanent? |

The camera setting are HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\HTC\\Camera\\General\\MainCameraProperties
I haven't got round to trying them yet as I don't use the camera that much and I am not sure they will survive a soft reset.
After having the M3100 for a while I can say assuredly that I definitely made the right choice. Reason being I am a very demanding user and my phone sometimes borders on a laptop in the way that I use it. There are just so many useful and poweful apps that I have access to, that I would be hard pressed to find on the P990. |

Hello all.
About the last post well, if you're looking for a set with which you want to mostly make calls, sms and wifi, then I would say go for the P990. But that depends on yourself really. You should check both out when they're released. I own the HTC Universal (i-mate JasJar) and I know that it's a high end device. I've installed numerous apps and used the set thoroughly (except for the camera). I love the set but would prefer a smaller size.
With a WM5 handset there are numerous firmwares that are good and bad for you and you need to see which ones you prefer. Before the universal, I owned the P900 and then the P910i. I had numerous problems with synchronizing with Outlook which WM5 doesn't do. I don't know much about the P990 except that it's a really beautiful set.
What I'm trying to say is that it all really boils down to you. Functionality wise I think both are great sets. But what do you need? Do you need a full keyboard? Do you want to use it as an MP3 player? Radio? Do you want to have the power to change the ROMs (firmware) to any you choose? Both sets have pros and cons. The K-Jam (Cingular 8125) doesn't have that good a screen, as in the resolution isn't top notch. The P990 has a remarkable screen. The P990 has better call quality than the K-Jam. I know the K-Jam isn't that good as I've owned one for a short period. The camera is better on the P990 much more than the K-Jam (in my perspective). I don't know about the WiFi though, how good it is on the P990. I think battery life on both depends on the usage really. However, the K-Jam is more web/wireless internet based than the P990.
I don't know if this was helpful or not, but it's really up to you which one you want. Both do everything, but one looks and feels better than the other.

For phone, sms and wifi use I would say P990 is slightly better than HTC Wizard which can be slow, BUT there are many people having problems with P990 especially when you start to work it hard.
The thing with the newer TyTN is that it has much greater potential as an all round device. I have just sim unlocked my phone for free and also flashed to the latest ROM (which has made it even faster & more stable than it was). This was pretty straight forward to do.
After using my TyTN for a good while I can say that the P990 does not even get a look in. There is pretty much nothing that my friend can do on his P990 that I can not do on the TyTN; there are so many things I can do on my TyTN that he can not on the P990.

If you use the camera a lot I highly recommend CoolCamera 1.15b2, the sharpness and contrast settings will stay after soft reset and are correct by default... also seems to take even better pictures.

Any1 know if one can reflash the WM5.0 to aku 3.2 ???
Very tempted to get the Dopod 838pro aka HTC Tytn to replace the recent dissappointing P990i (just sold off)
Only thing holding back is the thought of not able to sms using one hand with the dopod 838pro |

I've never really subscribed to the view of "is its a great phone with a good pda or a great pda with a good phone" as I think its a good pda with a good phone but anyway, The Gadgeteer have a review of the TyTN looking at both angles

I just today purchased a TyTn (i-mate JASJAM) as a data device. Comparing it with my M600 (which I use as my primary phone) I think that I made the right choice.
For me, it was easy to pick between TyTn and P990i:
1. EDGE is only available on TyTn, and this is what I had a subscription for.
2. Keyboard is a lot easier to use.
3. ActiveSync guaranteed compatible
4. g-level wifi. Great because some areas do not allow non-g connections
The rest of the plus/minuses (like better camera on the 990 and the radio feature) didn't apply to me as I hardly ever used the camera on my K750 -- the grand sum of pictures I took: 7 in the year that I had it.
I love my M600 and I am racking up quite a SMS count because its so easy to tap them out on the nice keyboard.
I say between the 990 and the TyTn, data connectivity was the main selling point for me. I tried the P990 without the flip to test the keyboard, and I found myself getting many misses because I have fat fingers
In size, the two are almost equal in length, but M600 wins in weight and width.

That reminded me of this line from the movie American Grafitti:

Correct.....Ive seen a few WM5 handsets in action and the people who i know that have one speak VERY highly of them (one of which has had a P900 and a P910i). Most say to go for TyTN over P990i but mostly because the type of device im after is more suited to PPC over smartphone.
My experience of the P900 has been VERY good so far as to say have only had to replace the flip once. Though software-wise it has crashed countless times LOL. Had mine since March 2004 so its had a good ol running

After the end of the day when I log off my computer, the last thing I need is another windows based computer in my hand. So I prefer Symbian. More fun to me. I had a wm mobile device, but personally I just love the Symbian platform and my P900 has been rock solid since April 2004.

The one and only thing i miss on my P990i that the Windows Mobile has is the standby screen. There are just to much space not to be used
