With reference to the availability of the P990 and price. I've found the following site, which states $500:
http://www.mobileworld-inc.com/sonyericssonp990.html
Is this true or not, as all previous posts refer to that the expected date of release is around March?.

I agree.
People complain that it takes too long for SE to release the phone but the same people will also complain if they released it quicker and it didnt work properly. |

@amr999, I've lost count of how many times thats been posted.
it actually started getting posted last october (or possibly september - I can't rememebr exactly) just shortly after the phone was announced!
its generally considered to be fake, or scam, or whatever

Thanks masseur,
I also think its a hoax. I'll wait till there are official release date, since I'll buy one as I've using the P800 and still have P900i.

the only Sony Ericsson I can ever remember having an official release date was the W800i back on August 12th last year
other than that, the first we know of new phones actually being available is when people report here that they have bought them in a shop or onine somewhere from physical stock (not pre-order)

The P990 is not delayed, yet.
We all knew from the day announced it that it would come out mid March 2006 (Q3:06), so just be patient guys.

You're right man. Got mail from Sony Ericsson Sweden today, saying: "Sony Ericsson P990i is planned for release during this quarter. We have no information regarding date/week at this time."
So, no word about a possible delay (yet).

I've used the P800, P900 and the P910i. Presently I've got the Nokia 9300. I'm not completely happy with it, and would love to replace it with the 990! Waiting patiently! |

Christ man if you wanted to pick up a new toy to carry you over why'd u pick up a piece of vanity junk like the Razr? I certainly could have guided you in the right direction to a nicer and reasonably priced handset at that. Food for thought, there are planned releases of some 4G phones with 20mbit download capabilities later this year. I have a DocoMo JP account so hopefully they roll it out in time for me to play around with after the P990 high starts to wear off.
By the way, only unlocked P910s were available around the time we got them. Carriers didn't pick it up until several weeks later.

@BigFeat--
I only got the razr because it was the cheapest thing I could find that I didn't completely hate. It was only $90 as an upgrade. The only things cheaper were some ugly Samsungs and a Nokia. I have to save my money for the P990. I paid over $800 for the unlocked P910 way back when, so I'm expecting to pay the same for the P990. Luckily, it will only be a month and a half or so until we can get the P990.
To all:
This may seem a little premature, but does anyone think the P990 successor will come about kind of quickly. It just seems that by the time the P990 comes out, it will be slightly out of date compared to others (like what happened to Z1010). I mean, once they get all the bugs and new UIQ sorted out, it should be easier to make the next model. I just don't want to buy the P990 if the P1000 will be out within 6 months. Nevermind, I just realized how stupid I sound. I will have to buy the P990, then wait for the next one, and then buy it too...that's just how the mobile phone world works! Thanks for letting me sort that out. lol. P.S. What's up with clausnors post 2 above this? It's screwing up the alignment of the posts.

@chriswg52: In what way or on what points will the p990 be outdated when it coles out?
Also why would a new smartphone automatically be a successor of the p990? |

Well for a first it only runs at the same Mhz (core chip speed) at which the 2004 released Nokia 6630 runs ! Secondly it only has the old wifi (b and not g) which means that when run on a wifi network it will slow everything down. On the up side it has a nice 2mp camera thou.(this also almost a year old) The thing is I don't take every day pictures while I use the chip-speed the minute I switch it on :-( Greetings from South Africa. Mario :-)
