How's this for a contract deal here:
Carphone Warehouse, in conjunction with Orange, are giving away a free XBox360 for every 18 month contract on the 'Canary 30' tariff, ie. 325 minutes and 150 sms's for £30 a month, together with a Nokia 6111 thrown in.
(If you want the deal on a 12 month contract, you have to pay in £69.99.)
Considering the value of an XBox 360 and the amount of minutes etc. you get a month, plus the mid-range phone's value, it's a bloody good deal.

Speaking of consoles...I'm thinking of getting a PS3 when it eventually launches here>>>>2010 I'm no serious gamer but I'd be pissed off if I was told to wait until Spring next year.

Well i am with you there brixx. I am in no terms a serious gamer, not even vaguely, BUT i am gonna get one of those ps3 thingies too once it comes out. If the games , like ps2 are backwards compatible, so that you can still play ps1 and ps2 games on ps3 i will surely need one of em

@Rhino: Yes, they'll be backwards compatible...Sony would not dare bring out a console that wasn't. I don't expect the PS3 to reach too soon after it's European launch, hell we're only officially getting the XBox360 here next week after it was launched in Europe last year.

@ da brixsta,
Yeah that PS3 delay is a real downer for those who were expecting to get the console during this year's festive season...only Japan and of course the US are assured of availability before the northern hemisphere's Spring next year...
All (apparently) blamed on the manufacturing demands of the Blu-Ray disc drives.
Suddenly that article about the (Un)Democratic Republic of Congo that Francois posted comes to mind again...

Oh grief, that reminds me, I hope I can find that detailed Ravana mask that I made for last year's Diwali play...it took absolutely ages to make...for obvious reasons.
@ doc,
Was following some of the info in the Indian thread as regards the origins and close links between the south Indian languages like Malayalam and Tamil; many of the kids I teach have these as first languages, although Gujerati and Punjabi is just as prominent; and your neighbouring country's Urdu. (Plus Bengali and Sylheti to a lesser extent.)
India were really unlucky with that cricket match; thanks to messrs Duckworth and Lewis of course...
PS: India's Kingfisher beer has gotta be the most palatable beer out there!!! (I first discovered it in a tandoori in the Scottish Highlands capital, Inverness, back in '97.)
As regards SA, what a great 4th wicket partnership tonight between Duminy and Dippenaar against Zim. |

@amawanga,why did u make ravana marks?
My mother tongue is Malayalam.i also know national language hindi.i can understand urdu, punjabi & tamil.Every state in India have distinct language, customs, festivals, food and way of life...each state has a distinct history and geography.Too complex for even we Indians to remember everything..

I missed the cricket last night
@dr_thug: It's quite strange that a massive market like India would be getting the XBox360 after South Africa.

@brix,I too missed the cricket matches...not very big fan myself.Anyway,i think India will be beaten badly by Aussies.
India is no big gaming country...ps2 started selling hot 2-3 years back after their price went below Rupees10k in the grey market.

I absolutely love chicken...chicken curry is my all-favourite dish. I would've said mutton curry but I don't think that's good for the heart...wouldn't want to be getting heart attacks at 50.
Another favourite in South Africa is fast chain of restaurants called Nando's...they specialise in spicy Portuguese-style chicken dishes...of all the restaurant chains in the country, they're the best.

LOL, I guess you meant 'masks', yeah I should've used the plural for Ravana's mask(s)...
Each year the pupils have a large focus on the 4 main religions followed by the school's local community; 96% of the pupils that I teach are from the Asian sub-continent. Therefore the Autumn term is particularly busy with all the festivals being relatively close to each other, ie. Diwali, Eid, Guru Nanak's Birthday and Christmas, and the pupils doing plays about these, artwork, music, etc... a large cross-curricular focus.
I've really developed an appetite for the sub-continent's food, including chicken tikka, the milder curries (NO phall or vindaloo for me...aaaarrrgh! ) all the sweets, as well as biryani...I'd better stop...I'm starting to become ravana..er I mean ravenous... !
Speaking of Nando's, it really has exploded here in the UK, and is very quickly becoming just as popular as in SA.

Wow...too many India related discussions in this thread...
Whats the dish served in Nandos??i think the chicken curry served in restaurents and hotels outside india are of mild form...they r fake curries.true curry are very chilly and served hot...sometimes people even here find it too hot to eat...but they still enjoy.
During my schooldays in Kerala, the only celebrations we had at school was Onam and Christmas. In North India, schools dont celebrate any festivals...just Independence day.
