I agree with you brix25!
I just read this bbc report that said SA networks paid only 6million rand(under $1m) for a 3G licence, how true is that?

hi everybody just passing buy..hope yal had a nice vals day.about the stopping of free gprs..do any of the networks offer unlimited data packages?..4 example here in the uk t-mobile web n walk is £7.50 a month or a maximun charge of £1 per day, while three has an unlimited data package including free skype calls from ur cell and free windows live messenger for just £5 extra.logically it seems to me that networks in nigeria would make more from gprs if they followed similar pricing.

mariwan: logic has no place here. definitely if we could pay the same amount here for gprs no one would grumble. but as we pay closer to £50 a month for MTN's unlimited package, grumble we must! by now, if mobile browsing was affordable, we'd have much more activity in our local internet content scene. so many wap ideas i've had but there is no market population to sustain it.

lawi: the problem with that is how many millions is your family or the federal govt willing to pay if to say they nab your cousin? the oil company most likely be wont as bent to secure the release of an indigene as they would an expatriate!

The main motive behind the kidnappings is money -in the millions from what I hear. I remember my PH pals teasing me when they visited Abuja some months back. They said something like, "Oh boy, seeeee oyibo de waka about here yanfu, yanfu... una no know say na big bucks de float around so...?"

Did u Guys hear the threats that Asari Dokubo gave his trial judge? One of these days, he may give an order for Foreigners to be killed, THEN YAWA GO GAS.

@brix I will soon give a major explanation why we seem to be fixated only on politics here.

Hi guys, anyone miss me? I guess not.
MTN connection is really a big flop. The call quality is poor, it takes forever to get a connection, and God help you if it is a Glo number you are calling.
When eventually you get connected, its either you can't hear the other party, or you hear a totally different conversation going on between two other people. I one day listened in on a lady in an office telling her friend on how she was scheming to upstage her married boss's wife on valentine day.
I guess they have taken on more subscribers than they can handle.
GPRS is another thing, its available but unusable. Once in a while, it works, but only for a few minutes, and they its back to status quo.
I think I'll have to relocate to celtel HQ until they reinstate my gprs privileges.
I even paid for a cdma internet connection on Intercellular, but its not satisfactory.
Oh Nigeria my Nigeria! One day, (hopefully in my lifetime) we will have cause to smile.
Enjoy your day guys, and keep the thread alive.
Let go and let God

@Amby, I feel you bro.. MTN is such an unreliable network in Nigeria.
It's a known fact that glo is the best network in Nigeria, followed by Celtel.
If you are still interested in browsing on your Celtel, check and see if you have the GPRS active first. I have 3 lines and can still browse on one of them after tweaking the settings.
If you are interested in CDMA internet, I would suggest you try Multilinks.

Hallo.LTNP.There's this name I coined for mtn: "419 in yellow",they are always looking for ingenious ways to fleece their customers.GPRS is slowly taking aback seat in Europe and the far East and mtn still find it difficult to have it present in all parts of Nigeria.
Rather strange for a company thats claims to be largest mobile company in Africa and the Middle East when they can't even get their "50 free MMS" to work.Maybe its their South African origin that's worrying them as it is with their "cousins";Multichoice.
We'll wait and see what comes out of the 3G license auction...
To other matters, elections are just around the corner;according to the INEC timetable anyway, but things don't seem to be getting any 'rosier'.Baba 'Yabo has said the election is a do or die affair for the Peoples Destruction Party(PDP).let him remember that not all of us have armoured personal carriers or kevlar to prevent accidental discharge....We are watching and PRAYING...

@Amby Your complaints are noted.

Here is mine: MTN gave away my number to another fella in PH. This is my first number that I bought for N20,000 a few weeks after GSM came into town! I actually lost it and when I found it, it had been "withdrawn".

Then my pals started telling me of someone else answering when they called me. This is the number on all my Complimentary cards and e-Zine archives. But when I called the fella... fuming, huffing n puffing.... he calmed me down and said he bought it officially! So I really can't blame him.

I will be writing my official complaint to the NCC soon. MTN has 0803, 0806 and even 0703 number ranges but they still poached my N20,000 line.

these mobile operators are really having a good time in Nigeria. subscribers keep increasing daily in thousands despite the fact that services they offer is the poorest in the whole world. it's becoming more difficult for MTN to manage its customer base and build capacity to match up to the mobile craze in the country. @coola, send your complaint to NCC though nothing might come out from it if they end up reading the terms on MTN SIM pack

You see this is the thing;to most of the foreign firms that come into this country aided of course by the ruling elite,Nigeria is one very a massive public laboratory where every1 and any1 can come in to perform experiments of every nature and kind. And they needn't be bothered about labrats when there's about(according to the last census)140million of them(thats us) to experiment own.
Until the 'lab technicians' and or 'assistants' lay down proper rules for the conducting of experiments in the laboratory, then the 'scientists' might as well burn down the whole lab and the labrats with it.
Of course, they'll(the scientists) will find other labs eithr to burn down or build up.That largely rests with the lab technicians...Have I said anything?

Samsung D900 and SE K800 were best GSM and 3G phones at the GSM Mobile Awards in Barcelona. How much is the K800 in Naija?
