Fan made, based on leaked photo from a while ago. If you look closely you can see that the glow is not around the xperia font, but just behind it, blue dots actually. |

The "AM" in AMOLED, stands for Active Matrix (as opposed to passive matrix). It is a type of technology, in the same way IPS, stands for In-Plane Switching, or TN, stands for Twisted Nemanic, or TFT, stands for Thin Film Transistor.
It is NOT marketing Jargon of the likes of "Retina".
This needs to be cleared up. |

There are lots of things that need clarification. Please use the relevant thread for it . Anyone following esato knows that amoled/oled and its "differences" has been discussed alot in the WRONG thread already.

It is a simple concept that worf1000 is not capable of grasping. It does not need further explanation or seperate thread just for this. OLED is just a type of screen other than LCD and CRT, that has two types, which are PMOLED and AMOLED( AM and PM are addressing schemes which maintain the pixels to black and white or grey scale level). SUperAmoled and other oled screen found in smartphones today are all AMOLED, basically because PMOLED does not support high resolution and bigger display yet and would require lots of power (impractical for smartphones, if you ask me)
Sorry guys, just cant help but not say anything about worf1000. This Oled-amoled thing does not have to reach this far. It should have been put to rest a long time ago because it is a pretty simple concept that does not need much of an explanation. Please visit wikipedia if further explanation is needed

Actually, all those type of screens you mentioned are AMLCD or active-matrix LCD screen. They are all LCDs that use active-matrix as addressing scheme!
The term Amoled only became popular because of Samsung SuperAmoled branding. But OLED should be fine. Hence, gsmarena used the term oled instead of amoled. |

AMOLED is OLED, the AM part just describes how to control each pixel (and subpixel) in the panel... you can't run an OLED panel without controlling each pixel (and/or subpixels)... and the AM part of AMOLED describes which technology is being used for this...

I wish Sony to bring other Japanese companies smartphone to the west under Sony's brand name. I like the Sharp and Fujitsu's smartphones so much it's a pity they don't make their ways to here. It would be a logical idea for both Sony and other Japanese companies. Sony can use a name other than Xperia for smartphones from other companies. |

Has anyone seen the Asus Tranformer AiO?
When is Sony bringing a dual boot win8/android tablet to the market?
I'd pay for a 10" version with clamshell style clip in keyboard in a heartbeat.
I have a dig bick You read that wrong |
