Also don't forget:
Even with a fixed firmware version, the act of restoring the last backup can potentially destroy the stability of the phone.
This because buggy firmware can create corrupt files and databases that the fixed firware may not be capable of reading.
When you restore the last backup, you may unintentionally be also restoring the crashes to your phone.
Give that a thought ...

I have simialr firmware (my organiser and CDA are R3B01) and I find my phone still hangs a lot
a) sometimes the camera wont come on then i got to reboot
b) sometimes the phone just hangs and no fucntion works. Incoming callers get teh message that the phone is not in service area or as been switched off and get redirected to my voice mail.

Untill I get these licked I am wonder if I can get into WiFi and using the card reader etc...

It is so reassuring reading through all the problems people are having. I was truly beginning to think I was losing my mind. Have been with the P Series from the beginning, but nothing prepared me for the last three weeks as a P990i user. Like many others on this forum I use the phone mainly for work, and I have had the most stressful time as a result. Will do a firmware update today, but am not hopeful. Just dont understand how SE have got away with this. For heavens sake the phone is nearly £500.00 sim free and it just does not work properly simple as that. Wont list all the issues as they have been well covered here. A truly staggering number of bugs to my way of thinking. Found myself in Craphone Whorehouse looking at Nokias on Friday, that is how bad it has been. Please SE sort this ludicrous mess out.

I totaly agree with you Sony Ericsson have just decided to do a Microsoft and let their paying customers do the Beta testing for them, I am not yet risking movlng from my P910 for business purposes yet and have relused to sign the thing off yet as a device suitable for purchase by my company (I am not very popular at present!) I too have owned all the Pseries devices and I am sad to say this is almost as bad as the early P800 but made worse by the fact that seem to have learned NOTHING!

This may have been answered earlier in this thread but i couldnt see it..

Can someone tell me how i get the firmware updated on my phone. How and where do i get SEUS from?

My current firmware is R5A006 but i have had a few kernel errors come up. The main one being when looking at websites through wifi. The other was when i was changing the background image.

Apart from a couple of errors and a crash or two, im pretty happy.

any help very much appreciated.

For some some reason, you seem give more credit to people that appear one day at esato just to talk bad about the P990, than to me me, Jah, Sleepyhead, Joel, Johnex, Spawn, etc

For Vodafone Users I went to Voda Store yesterday and was told my Voda P990 is "Vanilla" e.g if your Voda P990i has the original SE Icons it has NOT been messed with by Vodafone all they have added is a startup logo and some pre configured accounts otherwise all else is left as per sim free P990!
But the guy who seemed to be very well informed on SE products in particular did say SE knew the phone was bug ridden but took the decision to release it knwing full well that the users would show them what was really wrong with the damn thing!!

so Vodafone early adopters can at least take heart in as much as we can take full advantage of all SEUS updates as I have already done! the bad news is the phone is still not reliable enough for business purposes, so I will be sticking with P910i for my business stuff my P990i is just for play at present,

Its all a a bit of a shame realy this thing could come good yet though and I am doubly glad I did not pay for mine what a shocking state of affairs, I wonder if I could get away with getting my customers to pay for all my R&D?!

Nitro Fan,

I have a Vodafone "vanilla" P990 as well which, despite all the posts here, actually works surprisingly well - certainly much better than my original M600. Anyway, I tried updating the firmware and even though I have version R5A006, SEUS tells me I have the latest version. I tried updating anyway but the phone firmware remained the same (although I have a suspicion the organiser software was upgraded but cannot be certain since I did not make a note of which version the phone came with). I am curious why you are saying that Vodafone users can take full advantage of SEUS updates. Have you actually tried updating your phone? If so, how?

@nitrofan: i agree with ares, all the things that we have done for you and the other p990 users, and you seem to ignore us when we tell you something, and when a new member comes and tells you the same thing, you instantly recognise what that member said. It really pisses me off, and it is therefore i have distanced myself when thinking about helping in your queries.
