@mario2002; I agree that W_I_P was trying to cheer us all up. Just not into a kind of "said" hope, but again he may have been honest and might've said/typed different from what he meant, which is most likely. Sure I'll give him a break ... sorry.

I will have been waiting for the P990 for a whole year! That's pretty ridiculous. Hopefully SE will surprise us and release it sooner than later...

How long have you been holding on to your current model m8? We old vets have had our P910s as early as the fall of 2004. I picked mine up early September of '04 so relative to your woes I would say my P910 was extincted well before this year. I have to admit that this is the longest yard stretch from my P800 -> P900 -> P910. You just gotta pick up a new toy in the meanwhile until the candy shop opens up again.

I don't mind waiting a bit longer for a stable and complete device.
But I hope SE do take note that in the UK most networks offer a new phone (upgrade) every 12 or 18 months (depending on the contract). So SE need to work with this type of cycle if they want to keep customers. I will definitely get the K750 replacement for my wife - best phone she's ever had!

I am sorry... but how would they do that?
After all....not everyone opens a contract on...say...20th Jan...
I am sure everyday of the year someone somewhere opens a contract....
Maybe not with the P series...but will their other products....they have launched the next product less than 12 months after the previous model...
Not that bad... I know that people are looking forward to the P990...and that being the case...I would prefer to hear any news or "hands on experiences" rather than the moaning thread this has turned into on occasions...
I have found Bengalboy's updates here and on his site very enjoyable and informative as well as the inital P990 experiences of Masseur and others...
Fantastic insights.... |

@BigFeat--
Yep, I also got my P910 back in October of 2004, so it has been a LONG time since I've gotten a new phone. Unlocked phones are so expensive, and T-Mobile USA has zero decent phones. But I couldn't take the wait anymore today, so I went by T-Mobile and picked up a razr to hold me over until the P990 is released. It's no Sony Ericsson, but it will do in the meantime.
Anyone have new info on P990? Anything...?

Suggest you read my post next time, I just said SE should "take note" that the UK market operates in a particular way.
Also many people in the mobile phone business know that the UK and Italy are different from other markets (e.g. other European countries and the US) as consumers seem to want the latest and best handsets and especially now 3G handsets. Again, SE will need to respond to these market differences.
My wife's K750 was bought about 2/3 months after launch, let's see what SE offer in July 06. |

people keep asking this, in this thread alone maybe a dozen times including the last few pages, but unfortunately Sony Ericsson have not announced a fixed date for the release of the P990 and at the moment there are wildly varying estimates from end of feb to april
the press release says 1st qtr this year and thats as close as it gets
edit: btw, it won't hurt to grab a nokia that takes your fancy. you can always get the P990 later

You should give up.
I mean, this is how it is.
Excitement, over enthusiasm, impatience, anger, give up.
They have to release it when the public is excited... *sighs*
I've given up already and if it comes out, great if not, SCREW YOU SE FOR MESSING WITH ME!
*sighs*
CPW UK says end of Jan.
SE UK says estimated Mid March Latest.
Rumours on the web say June.

Hey,
Got a mate who works for SE and he currently has a prototype P990 to get to grips with. Still bugs etc, but he has it to get used to the interface.
He seems to think it may not be widely available until May now. They want to make sure its working properly before sending it out. |

LOL amnesia, what a double edged sword..
Release it now before the OS is stable and the software isn't available but everyone is excited - great! Everyones whining and "I told you so" post counts are high.
Release it later when the majority of bugs are ironed out, software is availablem, but people feel its too late - great! its out, but people won't buy it. (Course they will ) Probable post counts.. about the same as above
Everyone either complains they release them too early or too late.. TBH i'm glad they're taking their time on it, i'd rather not have something completely bug ridden and horrible to use, that'd put me off more than a delayed device.

I have to agree with Gigs.
The P990 is not delayed, yet.
We all knew from the day announced it that it would come out mid March 2006 (Q3:06), so just be patient guys.
When people are looking at say intels or AMDs roadmaps they can see when the new products and techniques are coming/going to be implemented.
Only because we know about them won't make the 2007 model come out any faster.
Same goes with the P990
So, either wait for it and stop complaining about it being delayed or stop complaining about it being delayed and go buy some other phone that is out atm.

This moaning attitude is really the same thing what happens before every release of SE ... i can understand the young posters but the older members shoud already learned from the past ...
Personaly i will wait for the release of the phone have a play with it and then wayt for a decent offer to get one if i choose so, also resulting this i will skip the birth problems ,first firmware, and lack of usefull apps, and all othe rubbish usualy folowing a new release .
to all of u who are already deserate ... hold ure pants it will come not that far now is it ?
regards laz
