Quiet is definitely the best music; it inspires creation.
Slipknot and such bands arent about fck this and fck that, they're about apt expression of confusion / anger that otherwise just sits inside people and turns rancid. If some1screws u over, GET MAD, dont feel sorry for urself. And i know from experience that if u listen to enya under such circumstances, ur gna feel DAMN sorry for urself.

My GF is at UCT...She enjoys it there. All her friends went to Stellenbosch, and after that they all went fuqed up, shagadelic and drugadelic...So my opinion of that place is not much....
UCT sounds fun though, aparently very international. So yeah, it is very cultural there. I enjoy other cultures, just all the differences...

What is she studying there?
I've lived in Stellenbosch for most of my life; seen my own friends go drug- and shagadelic; gone through brief phases myself. There's little i still fear in this town.
I do fear moving to UCT though...

@psychonympe: Your posts in the regional forums don't count...you're right, every night the board automatically discounts your posts for the day in the regional forums. It's just a way for people to interact with other members and threads on Esato.
I'm looking to buy a next rock album, not into the music at all but I enjoy some of the stuff they play on R2K ( old Radio 2000)...nice stuff without all the anger.
If anyone's not into hiphop I'd advise them to listen to MF DOOM...he is damn good and also funny at the same time with socially conscious lyrics. Plus he wears a mask a la Dr Doom...but this mask is the same one as worn by Russel Crowe in Gladiator.

@ psychonymphe, she is studying Sound and Language Pathology....It is quite an intense course...Think 25 people get into in yearly, and that is internationally...Never mind the few who do not make it through the first year, due to having a nervous breakdown....
I think UCT will probably be different, especially if the course you end up in is with lots of international students, but I do not know how things are with the other courses.
Me, personally, I don't think I ever really fit into PTA. You get coastals, and you get non-coastals....Funny enough in my experience I get along much better with coastals than non. They are just more relaxed, chilled, like me. Here in PTA it is competition...Everyone competes on every level. I don't like that. Like they say, you might be first in the rat race, but you are still a rat....

I remember seeing MF DOOM pics with his Dr.Doomish mask...then imagining G-Unit sporting Fantastic Four attire...woulda been a cool idea for a MF's poser-exposer 'Rapp Snitches' video... oh hang on..that's featuring Mr. Fantastik (sic) anyway!

@francoislr: You'd be suprised to know that most of MF DOOM's fans are in fact white. If you're looking for intelligent hiphop, he's your last bet.
@da wanqsta: Funny that you mention Mr Fantastik...was listening to my MM Food album last night and Rapp Snitches is still a stand-out track. Just think of it: A rap album dedicated to food...that's the crazy world MF DOOM.

@ Francois,
This fellow pale-face will try explain:
The hip-hop star that brix is referring to, MF Doom, has a song called Rapp Snitches. (brix had some lyrics from this song in his signature some time back.) The song focusses at the whole pseudo-bad-boy gangsta rapper wannabes, all the false pretenders. (brix, correct me if I'm wrong)
The song featured Mr. Fantastik in it as well. This is also the name of one of the fellow Marvel comic characters, a member of the Fantastic Four. ( There was a movie recently about the Fantastic Four...Jessica Alba as Invisible Girl etc.)
Dr. Doom, in comic world, is also the arch enemy of Mr. Fantastic and the rest of the Fantastic Four... oh hell, I'm getting too deep into all this.

@ wanqa, thank you so much...clears up a lot for me. Not big on comics, or not that big...I know some of the basics of the superman storylines, a little of the x-men range, (age of apocalypse series was brilliant! The only comics I really read as I got my hands on them 2 yrs ago) But I understand the bit around the fantastic four....I have to mention that I am not big on my rap and hip-hop, I do enjoy some performers though...Just don't keep up with all the colabirations and peace outs between the fellaz, it is just too much to keep track of...
Got new Eddie Izzard....Going to be good...

@da wanqsta: I couldf not have explained it better. Too many people are just faking it, rap musicians seem to have perfected the art. BTW, did you know MF DOOM's father is South African? DOOM's real name is Daniel Dumile.
You guys should head on over to the forums at prodigits, the kids are still throwin their toys out the cot at Vodacom for cutting them off "free" data.
I finally subscribed to a MyMeg250 data bundle and hopefully my bill would be less then the R700 it was last month.

@ psycho, yes she is smart, but i am not retarded:) we are a good match in that. We can talk for hours, and we can sit in silence for hours. I want someone who is intellectually challenging. I get bored with the pop chicks, the girls with nothing but a black hole between their ears, they annoy me when it comes to personal capacity. When finding someone you need someone that inspires you to be better. I am not looking for someone i can just be comfortable with and spend the rest of my life trying to beat the Van der merwes. That is the rodent race. And it goes both ways in a relationship. |
