Personally, my fascination with viewing angles has been influenced by owning the S2 and 7.7 tab. For the prices one pays for a Sony product, which is usually comparable to it's competition, the viewing angles should be the same or at lest very close.

Tell me, what is so important about viewing angles? Nobody can tell that stupid hype?
Give some answers.

Higher contrast ratio is the biggest advantage. Higher contrast ratio at oblique angles. Greater colour saturation (i.e things don't look washed out). Greater colour saturation at oblique angles. Lower DeltaE, which is to say, smaller visible shift in colour at an angle. Notice how in a screen with poor viewing angles, the white can shift from white to yellow or blue as you view it from an increasingly oblique angles. Faster panel response times (lower latency).

So generally speaking, display panels with good 178 degree viewing angles, are better in almost every respect. They have better contrast, better colour saturation, lower deltaE and lower latency. So there you have it.

To those who don't believe in viewing angles, just watch Amazing Spiderman. I saw that movie last night and of course saw the Xperia phone that Spiderman used. That phone's screen looked like a feature phone screen from 2005 and you know why? Because of the washed out screen from its poor viewing angles. The Xperia Z's screen is a great screen straight on, but it's only great at one angle and average at other angles. A phone with good viewing angles just looks good ALL the time, from almost all angles.

Privacy is a poor excuse for the poor viewing angles, I honestly can't see why people would WANT poor viewing angles. I can understand not MINDING average viewing angles (like it seems most people are with the Z), but to WANT it is borderline insane to me. It's not like you have people next to you all the time to view whatever you're looking at on your phone, it's not like even if you DO have people next to your side (like in the subway) would WANT to look at your phone. So why would you want to sacrifice your screen's quality just for the off chance you need to hide the pr0n you're looking at in the subway?

Tell me the what is so important about viewing angles, don't change the subject please.
You never see the true colors of the amazing spiderman on your washout colors AMoled hype screen.

Second, this has never to do with viewing angles, so tell me what is so important about viewing angles?

Is it true that Sony's sofrware team working on updates is just 15 people? Some one said this on Xperiablog he says he has chatted with a Sony official on Skype.

I don't remember the actual number, but I read somewhere that Sony Mobile Lund had half the number of people working on updates that Samsung has. Divide that number by the number of phones Sony Mobile has committed to updating versus what Samsung has committed to (hint: Samsung has far less phones to update) and you can see why Sony is always behind. They need to hire more people.

Poor viewing angles makes the contrast poor and shifty. Look at the Xperia phone they showed Spiderman using in Amazing Spiderman. The screen looks like a washed out TFT screen from 2005.

I'm done arguing about this though, you can believe what you want. The rest of the world have moved on from 2005 quality viewing angles.

Thank you for essentially ignoring my post.

A screen with good viewing angles is a better when you look at it straight on, than one with poor viewing angles. IPS displays (excellent viewing angles) offer better display technology and thus superior picture quality when viewed head on, when compared to TN displays (poor viewing angles)
I explained the advantages on the previous page.
Believing that good viewing angles are irrelevant is willful ignorance of reality. The monolithic aesthetic Sony phones have is totally wrecked when the screen washes out horribly from the side. A screen with pristine viewing angles also looks a hell of a lot more natural. Does a painting suddenly wash out, lose contrast and shift colours when you veiwing from anywhere other than head on?

All those who oppose having good viewing angles will change their minds when sony actually uses one next year. Until then this is just a blind arguement. Things such as dual core, quad core, gpu, battery, updates, etc are only important if Sony chooses to. Otherwise its disregarded and pointless.

Also I think the mods should really do something about this thread.. If they do not have much time then, At least change the name to 2013 garbage thread with a seperate dedicated rumours thread. The integrity of this forum is just falling apart and its annoying to see this thread filled with arguements that dont belong here.

Atleast respect the work done by randomuser, aurelius and every other person (not good with names) who actually bother to post info for us. Please keep it free from spam. Thanks

Classifing Screen as Poor or vivd , at leat for me has never been based on viewing angle ..

I said earlier viewing angle is something nice to have but never been essential .. I was even clearer in my first post

stating that wide viewing angle is just like wireless Charging ... something nice to have but never compliant if it's not there !

--

at the end, We might both have different opinion, but that doesn't mean to start enforcing opinion on other or start calling the thread 'garbage' or make less respect of people ......

Don't want this discussion to drag any more than it already has, but I have one thing I'd like to clear up.
I had just said, if you had read my post, that screens with good viewing angles are better overall, than those without good viewing angles. Its not just the viewing angles, they have better contrast, lower deltaE, lower latency. They're generally better.
