*brix25 stumbles through the door a la Cosmo Kramer and concedes that he is also a geek*

I'm a geek because I'm eccentric, to the point where things like HDTV, inter-connectivity between electronic devices and intelligent design fascinate me.

I love manga, Star Trek but I'm not obsessed and won't dress up or learn Klingon. I love gadgets but I could funtion for a couple of days on the Mongolian Steppes without any gadget, maybe apart from a GPS device.

Yes, I'm a geek and I absolutely love it. Nerds hardly come out into the sun...and when they do

I totally agree with u on the nerd / geek issue. Look at any movie, the nerd has overstepped his sanity and the geek is the good guy with a pure heart. Although i dont need hollywood to tell me of such things. Geeks are the guys who justify their existence, actions, words, in more depth than the average female analyses her lovelife. They are usually super-intuitive too but endeavour to disguise this fact.

Nerds on the other hand are weird skinny intelligent jocks.

i dug this out of an email which i received a while ago...

You Know You're a Geek When...

...you look at a movie trailer and think, "I have that font."

...you get sudden attacks of bittersweet nostalgic feelings when thinking about your long-lost old 486 or Pentium1.

...you are wearing ten year old spectacles, made of steel.

...you seriously consider devoting a web page to your computer. (Not the brand, mind you, but the actual computer itself)

...you have more e-mail addresses than you do pairs of shoes.

...you get depressed when you get less than 10 e-mail msgs a day.

...although vaguely insulted by pocket-protector jokes, you still find them funny.

...you are on the Obscure Software and Computer Crap Junk Mailing Lists.

...you can explain how AppleTalk Networks work.

...sleep and nightime are no longer irrevocably linked.

...you can remember your email address faster than your mom's phone number.

...you are a member of the USENET elite, invoked in posts in threads to which you have not posted.

...you organise your CDs, so the tops all face upward, alphabetically, or by record label (If you do more than one of these, you are an Anal- Retentive Geek).

...you have to write with a pen, you find yourself using the Palm Graffiti characters.

...you've gutted and rebuilt your computer 5 times since you last changed the oil in your car.

...you know what a router is, and you know what a bit is, but you've never heard of a router bit.

...you know the square root of 65536 is 256 without having to do the math.

...you consider 65536 and 256 "nice round numbers".

...you *always* put the period outside the quotes, since you're not quoting the end of the sentence...what the hell do english majors know, anyway.

...you see a good-looking girl and you DESPERATELY want her e- mail address so you can get to know her.

...the only tan you've ever acquired comes from your monitor.

...you refer to going to the toilet as "extracting to the temp folder" and flushing the toilet as "deleting the temp folder"

and my absolute favourite (hint hint @ Mxit freaks)
...you spend more time chatting on-line in one day then you do in a week's worth of actual conversation with people face- to-face.
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious.

I'm no Trekkie, bloody Klingons around Uranus... must be trekkie slang for being constipated!
However, I certainly do manifest many attributes/ traits of geekism: my penchant for the unconventional, growing up being amazed and consumed by the aura of Star Wars, intrigued by Predators 1 and 2, the Terminator movies, etc.
I enjoy seeing how aspects of cellphone development evolve, particularly originality, as well as aesthetic and technological advances in equal measure.
We all know how modern cellphones encompass so much more than just being phones, that goes without saying.

I absolutely THRIVE on creativity, and it's what drives me when pursuing my hobbies as well.

Kryptik did ask the question about what hobbies we're into a few weeks ago, but I never got round to posting a reply to this, between driving around and touring all over here. Here goes: Apart from first and foremost spending quality time with the missus, I fluctuate between:
1. Riding and owning superbikes; a very big passion of mine.
2. Designing and building original-looking 'rat bikes'. These are made up of unusual and 'scrap' parts, ie. mad-max-type, 'survival' contraptions.
http://www.ratbike.org
3. Designing, creating and flying my own original-looking radio-controlled aircraft,
4. Cellphones!
5. Continuously making improvements around the house and rear garden
6. Making original sketches and drawing ideas in great detail.

I have to fluctuate between these frequently; there'd never be enough time to pursue more than a few of these at any particular time, particularly with all my work commitments too!

@ kryptik, must say, those were funny...especially the first one...i might relate! lol! But most of them are actually more related to nerds...geeks seem to keep a weird balance...it looks bad, but is actually a more healthy balance, in a weird sense once again.

Geek girls: read an article about that: was quite on the mark with a lot of bits....Forgot where it was, but the main bits was that they are intelligent girls, they are still girls(make up and all that) but they are interresting. You can talk to them about things like world politics, about technology, about books, about anything, and it would end up in a good conversation.

Remember, geeks are not just related to computers....

But yeah.

My interrests and hobbies, if I forgot to post them (I forgot if I did):
1. Music (I am a music Geek!lol!) Will not go into this in too much detail, as my MySpace site will be up for that within the next month...you can go find out more there. But for the record, I play Bass Guitar and Guitar. Want to learn piano, but I have been on stage in front of 1000 people playing keyboard once...don't ask..)
2. Computers & Tech....(Phone is included in this)
- Music production (My priority at the moment)
- Graphic Design
- Video Editing
- Internet Technologies
- Lots More (can't think now)
3. Reading (No time for it though)
4. Film, and here lots of different parts of it, including sound tracks (I LOVE to make this type of thing) Cinematography, Camera Techniques, Production, Post Production, special effects...All round...
5. Kids, I love working with kids (not too much though) I used to facilitate camps, and I loved it! I enjoy being out in nature, and connecting with young people, all ages, younger is just easier for me. One day I hope to get involved with this again.
6. Politics and world happenings...But not too much...

There is more, but I got to go...

I love the one about the full stop after the quotation marks. Its so true...

Im from stellenbosch. Studying. Who am i, i dont know, havent figured that out! Hobbies are writing, drawing, playstation, sex. I have a big problem with girls who refuse to discuss masturbation as its a great conversation opener. I suppose im a little socially incorrect at times. Thats me in a nutshell;)

Everyone notice that of late Esato has become one massive rumour mill, I'm referring to the most recent one about perhaps introducing PlayStation branded phones and a couple of days ago there was one about possibly using the Wega brand on their phones...we're yet to see Handycam being introduced.

My opinion would be that Sony should stick to it's brand and not have them pollute an already bug-filled mobile phone market.

@psychonymph: What's with women and masturbation? Are you a Matie?

EDIT: Just noticed eight people are viewing this thread. Do we actually have eight regular posters?

@ psycho, whats with the world and the whole 'finding yourself' thing? It is as if it has become fashion these days. I mean, we all are trying to find ourselves, but yeah, i always think it is something that just kind of happens as life goes on, and never really stops. Kind of that if you have found yourself, is there a reason to go on? Nothing new to live for. Oh yeah- just for interrest sake, when i ask such questions, i ask myself as much as i ask you. I find that i challenge myself on a few levels when i go into such things.

So i am waiting for a friend, she needs to talk. Her life is falling apart again. Also an artist in a few ways, excellent vocalist, won some big competition a few years back. She is bi-polar, very emotional. Going to be a long night, but it will be good. For now i will try to play this jolly guitar riff smoothly.

My question to all: what is your favourite shows, movies, radio plays, games, books and stuff like that?
