I still think the best manufacturer that mostly gets reception right is Nokia. Sony Ericsson have made many of their handsets that I have owned with terrible reception and I live in a strong reception area on every single network. They have put the antenna at the bottom many times and it even says inside Nokia instruction manuals not to put your hand over the antenna part as it may affect call quality or reception. But Nokia mostly put theirs at the top of the phone so its not affected. Simple. Do you think other manufacturer would have recalled the handset?

No. I doubt any other manufacturer would have made such an error.

I'm sure no one would have thought this of Apple either
Over time, all manufacturers have made some handset(s) with some issue(s)

But Apple are the only ones who have lied and deceived their customers about this issue they could have been upfront honest about this from the start and maybe then none of this fiasco would have escalated as much as it has |

No doubt. Look at the Satio for example, except that was software. Mind you i never had a problem with mine.
What would worry me more as an iPhone 4 owner, rather than the antenna, would be the rather weak front and rear glass. Hard to break when hit directly, but as demonstrated by Youtube, easy to shatter if the phone is dropped on its side. Apparently thats one of the characteristics of such glass.

Bono
Majority of Nokia smartphones have the antenna at the bottom, N95 had it in the middle but N78, N81, N82, N86, N96, N97, N900, 5800,5230 and even N8 have it the bottom, so does E71, E72 etc... Eseries, but Nokia place them properly, the SE X10 also has it at the bottom but i must say compared to the Nokias it fairs much better especially in places with dodgy signal, it does far better than my 5800, the iPhone3GS has the worst RF ive ever seen though, can't imagine how much worse the i4 is then.

I see all the manufacturers have hit back at Apple I now have the Samsung Galaxy i9000 in place of the X10(too many issues)& today whilst holding the Samsung I had a solid signal even under a car park & deep underground in a shopping centre which goes 3 floors down. Was impressed so Apple are not always right

It really is laughable how they are handling this.
Are they seriously attempting to drag seasoned phone manufacturers in to the debacle, such as Samsung and nokia, by saying "look, it almost happens on these phones too."

The mistake being building the antenna on the outside of the phone

comex and planetbeing are workin on the Jailbreak... they have one ready but have to remove all the apple software in it before they can release so that Apple cant get it removed off any websites once released.
I reckon it will prob be out in next couple of weeks now that apple released 4.0.1 lol.
Cheers Jon. Can't wait. |

I just think its hilarious and unprofessional for Apple to admit they went out there, bought competitors handsets and tested them. They're clutching onto hope and trying to con people into thinking good of them, moreso with this software update which apparently fixes it. Basically all they will have done is doctored the signal bar so it shows a good signal strength even when the signal fails. I wouldnt put it past them !

I must have a fluke iPhone 4, it's the best reception phone I've had by far.

Apple is trying to deflect the attention and drag others into their debacle, plain and simple. They messed up and now it is time to fess up.
What does their antenna issues have to do with other manufacturers? Are they trying to say all phones have poor reception so go with ours instead?
