Does anyone know if any website made a comparison between the P1i and N95?
The N95 is 'better' in all respects except build quality. It is built like a toy and the slider mechanism is dreadful. It was going to be my phone for so long and I was counting the days until it was released. I just couldn't live with the shocking build quality though, it is probably the most important feature to me. So there you have it, a mini comparison!

Is it me or the P1 price is fading too fast...it started like at 700 dollars...now I can find it between 500-550 dollars....$250 dollars less....in less than 2 months...what;s going on???

Personally I would rate the P1 over any Series 60 3rd edition phone. I've just upgraded from an N80 and I'm so impressed with the P1.
S60v3 has amazing 3rd party app support compared to UIQ3, but UIQ3 is so much better at multi-tasking and I would hesitate to say is quicker than any S60v3 offering. It's not just about hardware, I find the UIQ3 interface and software design is head and shoulders over Nokia's. For example, the Internet connectivity options on UIQ3 are really good; you can assign multiple accounts to a default group (all your wifi accounts, for example), and the phone will scan through them until it finds one it can connect to. With S60v3, you have to wait for it to scan for wifi spots before you can even start to choose one, it's a real hassle.
The touch-screen on UIQ3 is also fantastic, making using the phone a real joy! |

i have both the N95 and the P1 and they are both good at what they do.
N95
5MP camera, Wifi, GPS, Music Player, Poor Build quality
P1, sturdy, touchscreen, qwerty keyboard (well kind of), decent battery life so far, blackberry connect.
These phones were not built in competition of each other the N95 is a music phone the P1 is a business/out of the office device like most of the Pseries.

where you say music i say entertainment , although the P1 and p990 don't have many features missing (mainly Audio and Video codecs). there are enough 3rd party apps to fulfill your needs
speaking of codecs does anyone know if someone has ported the Atrac codecs to p990/p1? or maybe even the whole Mp3 player from walkman phones?
thanks in advance guys.

If your looking to find the p1i for the cheapest price without a contract then try ebay periodically over a day or 2. I was able to fine 1 that was almost new (used for 3 days) for 400$ usd (Cant wait till it gets here). Ive seen other people who are selling week old p1i's, thats if you dont mine used. New on ebay is about 500$ usd. Hope it helps. |

I dont usually care alot about video recordiing or GPS but I am anxious about the media player. Is the sound quality that bad compared to the N95? |

I think the P1i has very good sound. It isn't tinny and it has a nice warm and non-fatiguing sound. Much better than any Nokia I've ever had but I haven't tried the N95. I can't really see the N95 sounding better than the N73 and N80 which I HAVE tried. |

Does anyone else agree with this and would you consider the sound quality good enough to use as a primary music player? |

its true that atrac started in mini discs but it has come along way since then with many improvements and is generally accepted as one of the better compression techniques. Also as identical sound quality can be achieved (compared to MP3) at half (or less as Sony claim) the bit rates it requires less processing power and so therefore provides longer battery life in portable devices
probably the only reason most people use MP3 is that it is virtually an open source compression whereas Sony licence the atrac compression adding more cost to such devices, but its used in all their walkmans etc

As i primary music player, i would not say so no as there are much better music players out there. It might Be good as a music player, with a decent pair of headphones. U might as well get an ipod shuffle.
The speaker is very good i must say that, was using it this weekend on the beach. Could be heard clearly over the screams of children and waves.
@masseur, i do remember. But i guess it takes the hassle out of having to convert all of my music from lossless to atrac3. I think my main problem was that i switch between soo many different devices keeing "trac" of everything was not always that easy or quick.
Oh yes do you have a 3.5mm jack for your P1 or do you use a dedicated mp3 player.

Thanks masseur,
i used to use my PSP as a music player whilst i was between the P910 and P990. using Atrac and sonicstange (The worst music software since WMP).
but it's true the average conversation rate is about:
-"Mp3 3mb" to "Atrac3+ 1.6mb".-
and saving the battery life is true too. as with Atrac the device only has to access the MS once per track, rather than accessing it intermittently throughout with MP3. reducing processing power and therefore saving battery life
It really saved alot of space on my 2gb ms nearly doubling the amount of tracks i could save and absolutely no loss of quality .
And with SS as crap as it is music conversation is done "on the fly" so no need to convert your entire library before hand.
I do have a 3.5mm jack and use decent noise canceling headphones, the main issues are space and battery life.
Pros: More MS Space, longer Battery Life and no compromise for quality.
Cons: Can't Share Music with your friends (legally of course). and having to use SonicStage
for SE to supply us with these codecs the cost is minimal to them as its Sony Software and it'll be very easy to implement so theres no excuse. and of course if you don't like Atrac, you just don't use it .
as you can probably tell this is my main grip with all P-Series (well not walkman) SE Phones. we paid good money to get a Top-end phone why cant it have every thing, and definitely give N95 a run for it's money Music wise

The shortcut keys for the the N95 work well and the music player is very good.
I dont know why we cant choose which media player we can use... for example use the walkman media player. but i guess its taken long enough to get this far so i wont pressure the techies at SE.
But music reproduction from a mobile never has impressed me.
