Direct quote from Eldar's review:
"the camera also boasts Xenon flash, which doesn’t make any difference from the Sony Ericsson K800i, marginally increased power aside."
No increase in burst radius?!?
Xumedo, could you possibly do a test of the flash potency and see if they increased the functionality of this? I hope the flash becomes more powerful, because there were many instances where it simply wasn't adequate in the 790/800...
We shouldn't discuss those kind of things before the release. They still have time to change things so it can turn out that the final version will be different from the prototype because who said that the final version must be identical to the prototype.
regardless, its something we should keep our eyes out for when it does hit the market. An increased flash burst was one of the top 5 improvements I was looking for in the successor... |

Do you know if i can put a 2GB microSD/Transflash Sandisk on the fone ?cuz on se.com says that it's limited to 1GB but M2,not microSD.
On the white paper it says supported up till 4Gb. Maybe in real life we can support even more just like the K750 example.
Combo reader
The extra memory slot supports memory cards up to 4 GB. Different kinds of content (pictures, audio, video clips, etc.) can be stored on memory cards, and transferred to other memory cards – compatible consumer products, for example Sony digital cameras, camcorders, portable music players, TVs, photo printers and computers.
Aham 4GB,but on the site(SE)says 1GB of M2,nothing else about microSD.
I say this because i will buy a Nokia 6110Navigator and also a microSD with 2GB.Do you know which is better...microSDNokia/microSDSandisk? or M2Sony/M2Sandisk ?Some people say the one from the initial brand other from Sandisk.

should we open a different thread for i-mobile 902 cam vs k850?
make sure that u put i-mobile in the title, otherwise people will be bumping around with sharp 902, and the entire NTT DoCoMo 902i/S series
maybe we should wait until there are some actual non-prototype photos from the 850i before we begin comparing it
Eldar said something in that preview not to expect the cam quality to improve? |

bav, im sorry but stop instigating ... we all know that youre baiting some of these respondents. nothing is set in stone, heck for all we know everything could be taken out of the phone and it could be a fw upgrade away from a k810, or they could now be working very hard to make sure its the best product that they want on the market. word of mouth is still the best advertising method out there, and what better way to advert than an incredible telecommunication device?
you should actually hope that the put the best phone they can out instead of spreading illegitimate facts around, b.c if SE pushes then nokia pushes and we all get better phones in the end.
heres hoping that the hammer doesnt fall ... and that we can get a significant boost in stability (ie not like the videos) in this new device. ... and wifi |

The finished product will reflect the marketing of the company. Its the reason why K850 didnt get VGA recording when its capable of it, and why the camera quality isnt going to change much from K810 because as many have said, N95 cam quality isnt much better and in some cases WORSE than K810. Until they have a better competition in cam quality will they improve.
It saves them alot of work too id imagine, just changing a few things here and there, instead of a whole new expensive and quality cam module which isnt needed as the competition is only equal to or just missing out to its current camera on the market already.
I only hope nokia give SE a run for its money with the rumoured N82, so we get better cam quality... |

For K850 camera, SE is working with the same physical limitations (lens size/cmos) that Nokia did with N95. At best, K850 camera will equal or slightly better than N95 (just like K800/N73 case). Like Eldars said, "dont expect too much improvement" |

What's the discussion about the CMOS sensor? The K800/790 also had a CMOS sensor.
From - http://www.chipworks.com/seam[....]ode12%3BIPR-0607-804&cw=detail
Sony Ericsson takes digital imaging in camera phones to new heights with the launch of the K800i and K790i phones, the first handsets to carry the Cyber-shot™ brand. These two new camera phones from Sony-Ericsson utilize the Sony IMX-018 3.2Mp CMOS Image Sensor.
The IMX-018 represents the 3rd CMOS image Sensor released onto the market in less than a year. Each of these Sensors has shown improvement in the design and manufacturing techniques employed. |

And in K850, it is probably IMX-20 sensor:

From that article, if that is indeed what is used in the K850, we can conclude that it does not make much breakthrough with image quality, except being able to take brighter images in low light situation versus the IMX-18. It has the same noise level at 100% (but this would equal to less noise when both are printed at the same size *correct me if I'm wrong*).
The main breakthrough rather would be for its smaller size more than anything else, with it being a 5 mega pixels sensor (IMX-20) but occupying a smaller area than the older 3.2 mega pixels counter part (IMX-18)

IMX020..................sounds realy good
. .
* Diagonal 6.52 mm (Type 1/2.8.) 5.15M effective pixels
* High picture quality sensor for cellular phones
* The industry’s smallest 2.0 μm unit pixel
* 10-bit column A/D converter readout
* High-speed serial interface
* Extensive set of solutions
Smaller Pixels and Improved Picture Quality
Due to the strong desires for module miniaturization in the cameras included in cellular phones, it is necessary to reduce the pixel size when increasing the pixel count.
Faster Operation
The IMX020 adopts Sony’s unique column-parallel A/D conversion technique that is optimal for increasing operating speeds. Sony also introduced their unique two-channel data strobe type sub-LVDS serial interface, which allows applications to read out the 10 bits per pixel output at 864 Mbps (a pixel rate of 86.4 MHz). Despite the large number of pixels, 5M pixels, this allows the IMX020 top operate at 15 frame/s in progressive scan mode and to achieve the high speed of 120 frame/s in 1/8 decimation mode, which is equivalent to QVGA output mode.
Extensive Set of Solutions
To respond to our customer’s diverse needs, Sony provides solutions in a variety of forms as IMX020-related products.
• Independent sensor
• IU020 series (lens modules): sensor + optical system
• MCB990 series (camera modules): sensor + camera DSP + optical system
These lens and camera modules use a lens optimized for the IMX020 and achieve miniaturization, high resolution, and low shading.
