Ok, ok, ha ha. Yes, I use a mac, are we done yet? Did we get out all of our little giggles out of us yet?... I'm actually an artist and animator and NEED, and love my Mac. I haven't used a Windows based machine in about 5 years time and like it that way. Anyways, back on topic, it's been a nightmare so far using this phone. I had what I believed to be very reasonable expectations about this phone coming into it. The learning curve has been kind of high I'll admit, and with the exception of adding certain bits of software (I can't install EXE files with out a PC! ) I haven't really had any trouble transferring any software, contacts, calendar appointments, and music thanks to the missing sync for Macs. I just really want to use MY phone the way I want to, and until Apple allows people who buy their phone to do just that, I'll be sticking to something Symbian or Windows Mobile OS based (for now anyways on that last one)!
Soooo I've actually been able to download the MSI file for .NET CF 3.5 on my phone, however it won't open and I don't know what to do with it now to get the Advanced Configuration Tool running? Anyone?
-thanks,

.EXE files and .MSI files are run from a windows PC that is Active Sync'ed to your Windows Mobile device.
Only CAB files do you install from the X1 itself.
You would be doing yourself a favor by getting one of the Windows emulators for your Mac...so it can be turned back into a PC

Im still wondering the same thing. It looks incredible. But the software, as long as its WM6.1, is an epic fail for daily use. Okay as a novelty IMO, but I think other software platforms are so much more practical. Its too much of a compromise for so much money IMO. Perhaps if they can get a better version of WM running on it, then it may be very worthwhile. |

Thanks! That was just what I needed, it worked like a charm!
Does anyone know how to make it so Opera is the default browser on the X1. I have the Xperia tweak downloaded and have selected the option in the app, however it still opens IE when I go to the google panel and stuff... I even soft reset the phone after doing this in Xperia tweak...
Also does anyone know how to enable phone vibrations when using the touch screen? Neither the Advanced Configuration tool nor the Xperia tweak app support this. Is it even possible? Thanks, I just miss the tactile feel of keys and was really curious about this... |

Hi,
Can someone PLEASE try to help, as I've been trying for days and can't get this right.
I have lots of vids that I want to play on my X1, they are all in various formats and I want to convert them to whatever format will play in Media Player. No matter how much I try, the vids are either rubbish quality or very jerky.
I know that lots of people have suggested Coreplayer and other various players, but I would really rather use Media Player. I've seen various vids online of vids playing on Media Player and they have been great quality and no lagging or anything, but for the life of me I can't find out what program or settings were used.
I've been told to convert files to MP4's within certain programs and that they will still play in Media Player, however my phone doesn't pick these up in file explorer when I convert to MP4.
Does anyone know of a program and the exact settings to give good quality, fast playback of video files within Media Player mobile?
Any help would be really great.

.mp4's recorded encoded at 384kps VGA 30fps are working for me using Sony Vegas 7.0. The Bond trailer .mp4 is 480x260 @ 24fps. I've converted a Little Rascals DVD to VGA 30fps 384kbps using Prism Video Convertor. All have worked for me.
I play them all back in the Sony Media Experience panel. |

Hey again.
I never wanted to start a Mac vs PC debate cos those are useless. I was just stirring
s32bauer:
I've only transcoded one video for my X1, and I noticed choppy video when the resolution of the video was greater than that of the screen. I have a 640x480 video playing fine on it. Any Aussies or Kiwis on the forum will like the video I happen to be talking about, watch it here.
@Boris, all:
Sweet, glad to know you got the .NET framework on your phone (and that it's working). Now that you've got it I suggest you try another great little app that requires it, called hTorch. You can find it on the XDA forum. I have it in the seven shortcuts list on my Start menu, whenever I need a basic torch I just rip out my X1 and in a couple of taps I can use the camera LED as a torch
I don't know about vibrating when touching the screen, but you can get it to make a short soft sound by trying this... Go to Start > Settings > Sounds & Notifications. Tick Screen taps and then select Soft.

Yeah, thanks again for that. I haven't used a torch app since I owned my SE W850!... I'll download that! I loved using it all of the time on that phone! Good find. I'm going to post something on XDA about the vibrations to screen touch stuff since I'd like some sort of tactile response to screen presses. I tried the noises with screen presses thing when I first got the phone, but quickly turned it off because I found myself annoyed by it rather quickly...
What about a simple NES emulator? I found a version of Nester Plus that kind of worked, but was buggy as hell and played at the wrong resolution, other than that I can't find any of the standard freeware offerings (like PocketNES) in CAB form that work or will even load on the X1!

BTW, does anyone know how to enable a stereo bluetooth connection from the phone?... I have a adapter for my Sony surround sound system that allows me to listen to music streamed from a stereo bluetooth enabled device, however the X1 won't/can't establish the connection itself... How do you do this with a winmob smart phone???.... I've looked under the bluetooth options and see the device listed under paired devices, however there is no way to establish a connection with the device! If I click the device it'll just give me the option to refresh the connections list with out actually allowing me to connect to it! There has to be a work around since I could easily establish a connection with the same dongle on my N95 under it's bluetooth options?!? Anyone?

Hmm, so if x1 can be upgraded to WM 6.5 will it change the way it performs??
Can WM 6.5 fixed the problems we are encountering with WM6.1??
