Talking about buying a PC, last month I sold my laptop because it failed to play some game. I bought my self a good P4 + good graphics.

I never considered AMD I have no experience with it anyway. But my intel is doing really good.

@786KBR: How the bloody hell did he burn the insides of his phone? Thats a rare goodie, and such a high end phone?

@Brix: Yea, branding is here to stay, BUT updating firmware and buying a new cover solves that problem, and with the possibility to upgrade firmware over the air, it sure does not look bad for the future... Now the only problem is expensive original housings.
@ All:

On another subject, Nokia N93 is apparently sporting a dvd quality (thats what nokia calls it not me) video recorder @ 640 X 480 pixels @ 30fps.

Whats your thoughts on this.

@ Rhino8, I knew about the N93 long ago, and it would truly have been the ideal phone(for me) if it was a SE=) But it is cool...I want to start making stacks of video, and the demo video clips of that phone is beautiful.

I must say the newest intels are very nice, and the amd's are becoming over priced. But having experienced both of the cpu's I'm definitely going with amd.

Having said that, who cares about amd and intel. I want to see the cell cpu in a pc.

On the subject of branding. It's off putting and obtuse. Yes, I know I'm on vodacom. I'm the only one using the phone. I don't need to be reminded of it. I pay the bill. There's voda written all over the bill. They advertise vodacom when you phone customer care.

I know what network I'm on! Do I need to see it everyday of my life?

Whats next? Sasol branding on bmw's just because you fill up there? Highveld written all over your hi fi, just because it's your station of choice? DSTV printed all over my nice LG tv just because I own a sattelite?

Just stamp my forehead with my company logo, just because I work there!

*vented*

Ok, I'm calm now.

With number portability being introduced shortly, networks will rely more and more on handset branding to differentiate themselves from one another as 084/083/082/072/073 will no longer indicate which network a person is using when you call that number.

Most people don't know that you can de-brand your phone because branding has not irritated them as much as in Europe/America where you're assured of getting a branded phone when you sign up with a network and these phones are so restrictive (especially in the US) that people would actually spend more money to buy an unbranded phone.

lol!! Brix u talking about at most 4-5% of branded phone users!!

Most of these people dont even know whats symbian but are using them, they dont even care, I showed some lady her phones menu and as soon as I pressed the 2 arrow button she saw a new menu and was shocked!!
She was using a N90 for the past 8 months!

People ask for vlive phones they love actually... so if I had to dish out figures... Id say 60% want Vlive 3% dont want it and the rest maybe dont really care... as long as its a Nokia, yip those are still out there...

This one agent recorded a convo with a cust, and didnt want to give him a N70 explained every single problem with, he still wanted it and 2 weeks later he was screaming his head off coz his phone wasnt working!!

As long as i can use a Symbian handset i'm happy. The branding thing probably wouldn't irritate me too much, on an aesthetic level anyway; it's only once branding starts hogging memory that i'd be irritated enough to debrand.
I'm not superstitious, merely mildly stitious.

Happy-slapping? Pah, no hit-and-runs amongst this sad lot of fight-club wannabe's all filmed on cellphones at East London's 'popular' Stirling High School:

Ohh sorry guys I forgot to re-introduce myself under my new alias. Yes I've been using this other username, I changed the username last week.

Branding

Branding wouldn't be much of the problem if it was just about showing SP color and logos. What really pissssssses me off is that even the functionality is kinda changed. I was so mad last year when I got the V800. It didn't feel anything like a sony ericsson I know.

@wanqa: Seemingly the craze has caught on in South Africa: Filming fights/acts of violence using cellphone cameras. Now there's the raging debate around Mxit and one gets the picture that soon someone in government will be asking for some sort of restrictions on the use of cellphones because they seemingly promote violence and all sorts of nasty things.

When I read that story from the Dispatch the first thing that popped through my mind was: What did the parents do after seeing their daughter bruised? In South Africa it seems parents are simply lazy to look after their children and would prefer that the State authorities act as guardians...last time I checked they could not reign in crime, how the hell are they going to police cellphones.
