they did it earlier - a week ago when it was first launched
the service is temporarily "closed" while S//E is fixing some issues.
It will be up again at a later time, just be patient its not the end of the world if you cant update right this second.

nope, you're right but this isn't the first time i've tried to update the firmware. I tried a few days ago and it didn't work then either but now i know atleast why the update thingy hasn't been working. |

someone wrote this , it will help you:
"As I understand it the appropriate USB drivers come on the disk or you can download them from any of the SE support pages. What you need is the USB update drivers. They are NOT on the global support page which has the link to the update. Instead they are on the UK support page (under drivers) which DOES NOT have the link to the update. Confused? So was I. download those drivers in your computer.
Anyway, get the driver and unzip it. Then go to Control Panel--->System--->Device Manager. Disconnect your phone, turn it off and plug it into the USB cable while holding down "c". Briefly, a yellow question mark with FLASH Drivers will appear. Right click on it, select properties and Driver. Update the driver with the ones you downloaded.
Now go back to the global support page and run the update manager.
When I did it, it tried to tell me it couldn't find the USB cable so I ran the Update Manager in Recovery mode. Only do this if you previously got as far as the system freezing when you plugged the phone in - I think that means that all the necessary software is already on your phone." |

i really hope they don't impove the quality anymore, looks like the CPU can't handle it. For example if i have the highest quality now then i get like 15fps and there should be atleast 24fps so that it doesn't lag. If they increase it further more then it won't be video anymore but picture shifting with audio =) |

well to me, if they don't optimize the video quality atleast to that extent which it used to be with old firmware then it would be a failure as the product claims (imaging). When the product targets imaging aspect then it should stand improve on that aspect with a stable firmware which produces quality pictures and videos that includes proper functionality of a phone features.

It now records at around 70kbit/s while before it recorded at around 200kbit/s
The video recording quality now are terrible.

Agreed i just checked it and shocked to see such a downgraded performance
Before firmware update:
10.0 fps
121.6 kbps
After Firmware Update:
5 to 6 fps
77.0 kbps
Most shocking result is my k500i ;
15 fps
88 kbps
Awaited for a best firmware update..

I agree
This is a major let down, they really need to up this to record at 15fps and up to 200kbit/s when select the best setting. They should also change the firmware to allow the audiopart to be recorded in aac instead of amr.
The cpu has no trouble handling it, and the clips would be usable
As it is now in the new firmware, videorecording is completely useless.
Its the worst Ive seen on any S//E |

Lol you people have got it bad. If there wasnt a problem with your phones in the first place then you should have never installed the latest firmware.
The phone hanging during calls or standby I call more important than cameras / gprs but I take your point. I cant belive SE messed up so badly.

Am i wrong or can 3gp files only be 15fps max anyway?
I've just tested my video and to be honest i wouldnt have noticed any different in quality compared to b4 the update and after, the bitrate may be down but until i get home and run it through the pc i wont no for sure... but its definately still running at 15fps and nowhere near the 5-6 thats been mentioned!
Mines unbranded... maybe somethin to do with it?
Who knows but i hope se have released that firmware today!
Anyone tried to update yet? |

I removed the firmware files and forced the update service to re-download the files. Still the old ones |
