These can only be accessed by official Service centres and the like.....although obviously these companies have their sources too  We cannot access them ourselves as I assume we need the correct software / tools |

Basically,
All Firmware for SEMC phones is made by SEMC - thats it.
They release the files (not just firmware) on the EMMA II server (Soon to be EMMA III). To access EMMA II, i suggest you type that in google  Of course with your Hardlock dongle etc etc with you.
To become an unlocker/debrander
You need to have some knowledge in programming, not rocket science. Also you need someone with an EMMA II connection so you can link t that server (or buy your own )
Then you could either crack someone elses software - Davinci use pretty lame exe protection or build your own software. Yu would need to somehow implement the different signed loaders (Chip Select, Recovery, Production etc etc etc)
If i were you and looking to develope SEMC software - i would stop and think hard, or just borrow others code

dunno if this bug has been posted before but noticed it after upgrading my k700 thru SEUS (it's now R2AG001, O2 branded)
whenever I create a new SMS and select a contact to send to, the contact doesn't appear in the list but the contact does appear in my phonebook. Not all entries in the phonebook are affected, only a few names are not listed.

Thanks guv, have no intention of getting into that line of business, just out of technical interest was my inquiry.
Sounds like it would take some dedication to get into that market, probably the reason why not every kid with a passion for SE has set themselves up suchlike in their bedrooms.

Can someone who's installed R2AY test the properties of a resulting 3gp movie recording from his k700 and report back? There have been some talks about better video quality capture with these latest firmware versions, but I feel like we need to quantify the whole issue.
For example R2AE033 produces H.263 9~10FPS video with AMR Narrowband, Mono, 8.000 kHz audio...
Is there any difference with the current newest firmware version?

Hi all.
I have lots of questions.
I'm in india. I have vodafone branded k700i (got it frm my cousing in UK). It's unlocked & works fine except can't set mp3 or wave file as ringtone (& some other things). So today, i handed over the phone to SE service center. They said they can't write SE indian SW on it but will be able to upgrade the vodafone f/w. will this work & is it true that they can't overwrite the vodafone f/w with original SE f/w? and would it lock my phone again? (service ppl say it won't but if it does they won't unlock it).
Also what is drs-11 cable? can it be used for flashing phone? what is its advantage over DCU-11 cable?
And finally, can the camera focus be adjusted? the pictures i took don't have sharp outline & close-ups of small things are unrecognisable.
can neone help me????

The first post in this thread should provide the information you need. As you can see R2V001 (the firmware after yours) is the first vodaphone firmware that allows you to use MP3s as ringtones. You will need to use the DRM packager with this firmware though - but that's not too much of a problem.
In other words, take your phone to the SE Service Centre and get the latest UK firmware put on it, download Sony Ericsson's DRM Packager Tool, apply DRM to your MP3s and then copy them onto the phone. You should then find that you can use MP3s as ringtones.
As for the camera, the K700 has a fixed focus camera, so it will always be blury with close shots. |

@mwarner thankyou. just now i was begining to wonder if i made mistake by going to SE service center. and already have the drm packager. Think i can relax now

I am having really disappointing experiance with SE service in mumbai.
Instead of upgrading my fone's f/w, they have downgraded it so that the camera sw is 3.6 instead of 3.9 & all icons look really bad. They r saying since it is not under warranty i'll have to accept as it is. Though they say they will try once more 8-|, i think this is gonna cost me money & headache  |

There has never been any K700/K500 firmware with camera version 3.6. Have you checked the firmware information yourself? As always, look at the first post to find out what you have got. |
