It would be realy disappointing if SE dont update this to 2.2, i find it hard to believe that the hardware doesnt support 2.2, even the Milestone is getting 2.2 and that has less RAM, less ROM AND a slower CPU, so wtf??? they should just tell the truth, they are simply too under resourced to work on 2.2, the UXP UI also seems to require a lot of time to port, they have taken a bigger bite than they can chew, and are now choking. Im very happy with my X10, no doubt, but the fact that they cant keep it up to par with its competitors that arrived later realy is discouraging in the long run.

Lets hope for SE to change his mind and update to 2.2, X10 hardware should not be an issue....

I get the feeling they're too underesourced as the X10 is surely capable of handling 2.2.

SE have probably realised the sale of X10 has reached its peak, so there is no point in spending any unnecessary time upgrading any further and might as well consign this just another one of their under-performed products to history as the numbers just don't stack up

So much of customer support from SE. You've done it again SE!! Thanks!

Indeed Goldenface,it seems so,i guess its upto the XDA Dev. community, who last i checked are close to cracking that bootloader, once they do that im simply going to wait for a vanilla Foyo2.2 ROM for X10.

AFAIK, its the exact opposite, the X10 and its siblings have been a great success to SE, they are one of the main reasons they reported a profit last Q.

According to the newest rumours over in the 2010 rumours thread, the new android device will ship with at least 2.2 and will upgrade to gingerbread quickly. Also the UXP overlay will be much more in-depth and involved.

The way I see it there 3 possibilities:

1. X10 WON'T get 2.2 because it doesn't support multi-touch and changing all the multi-touch features to single finger compat is a major ballache not to mention 2.2 apps which use multi-touch and won't be compat.

2. X10 WILL get 2.2 but around the time the next android from SE is released (supposedly mid Jan, but I'm going to bet on delays) as that's probably when they'll have finished the new and improved UXP v2.2. That will send a nice 'we haven't forgot you' message to hose who still have the previous generation device.

3. X10 WILL get 2.2 but they'll stagger it after the release of the new handset to make sure it gets all the glory and it's time in the spotlight. Much the same way HTC upgrade the newer models before the older models.

Bottom line: don't expect 2.2 anytime soon.

Not sure if it's been posted before but I'm number 13,967 who signed the petition demanding FroYo to be included in the X10 android map. If you haven't performed this collective obligation, you can do so here

i have forgotten my number as i signed since 2 months or more, and NO OFFENSE to anyone here but i cannot picture that SE guys are searching or reading any petition. as if they do, they have probably fixed the in call volume problem as we are whining about it since forever.

I've actually participated in a similar online petition demanding SE to extend their firmware update support for P990 which they eventually responded to and provided. It was successful then as they realized the sheer number was enough to damage their reputation so it could very well be successful here. What we need now is enough support from X10 owners, so spread the news people!

That's true only up to a point recently. With a new wave of smartphones on the horizon in the coming weeks or months (not to mention its current rivals HTC Desire & Samsung Galaxy S), SE must have envisaged the X10 has probably passed its sell by date. No doubt the X10 sale will take a nose dive in the near future as it's going to be so outdated then. Well, it'll be interested to see if the specs of the next SE smartphone as SE have the knack of making half-baked products.

it is not a problem as it is a big annoying thing:
every time i move all the camera pictures from the phone to the pc, the file name to the new pictures will start from number 1 and so on, instead of continuing the count from the last picture taken before the backup.
how can i fix this?
anyone else experiencing this?

SE is so full of themselves. Look at them, taking too long at releasing an update that is already outdated before it comes out while having not a hint of embarassment but making a hype of it and coining "something smarter is coming" when they should just quietly and quickly release it and concentrate on 2.2. And the update, after such shameless campaign, offers only little more than what we have now. It's really twisted that they still think they're on top of the game but are actually clueless as to what their customers want and the amount of competition they have to deal with out there. Well, I've been with SE far too long to have hoped for a 2.2 update anyway, if anything I've learnt that with SE, hope ends up with disappointment. They will never do what they never mention to do and give you anything extra than what they tell you. Maybe X10 is a good platform for me to jump ship to HTC after staying too long with Ericsson/SE. Yes, I'm sure it is.

The HTC Desire HD is supposed to be announced on 15th September, this is the device I think we both are looking for. It's not even out yet and its already said to be having Android 2.2 on launch and getting Android 3.0 Ginger bread. Sony Ericsson is just rubbish these days I entirely agree.

Yeah and HTC Desire has already Android 2.2.

X10 doesn't even have 2.1. And rumours say 2.1 will be the last step.

To be honest they have a disgusting strategy. Completely not towards consumers.

The HTC Desire HD looks even better I think than the normal HTC Desire. I'm looking forward to this announcement on the 15th September.

Just bought an x10 for my upgrade. Already owning the mini and mini pro which I really like I decided to get their big brother. Its currently on o2 but will be debranded before I start using it. Do have a few apps on my mini but is there anything else useful for the x10 ?
Maybe something like a music player that I can make playlists on instead of me using se media go.

So it seems more like the X10 was SE's "toe in the water" approach to Android and now that the've released it's the way forward they've moved on from the X10.

The more I see SE's approach to this the more I release that this will probably be my last SE phone (after 8 odd years of SE phones), I'll probably move to the iphone or HTC.

The lack of MT support isn't a deal breaker for me but again it's a major failing on SE's part, along with 1.6 - SE can't afford to play this kind of outdated game especially with HTC and Apple who are frankly a lot more ahead of the technology game than SE.

The X10 is a good phone, the hardware is great but without the software backup (1.6 > 2.1 > 2.2) the X10 is only going to have very limited shelf-life.

I saw on the Swedish website http://www.mobil.se that a photo was taken of a document from SE saying that 2.1 was the last update on Android and that X10 didn't have the hardware to handle 2.2.

Sucks!

No such info is mentioned in the broschure. It only mentions what is included in the latest 1.6 and the forthcomming 2.1 update. The rest is just your and evreyone elses own imagination.

Just leave the last photo & video in your memory card after a transfer. That will keep the continuity of the numbering.

@Rookwise
You can use Astro file manager to create playlists AFAIK eventhough I've never tried it myself.
