Really? I used to rip/burn mp3's using WMP and yeah I just realised, the sound quality wasn't good somehow. Um, does syncing music onto xperia using the Windows Media Player affect sound quality? Shouldn't be right, you just mean that burning mp3's using WMP is a no no, right? Hehe sorry abit confused.
I'm thinking of getting JBL 410 Headphones, tried it out, the bass sounds goood. Have you tried?
Download and use something like Exact Audio Copy (EAC for short: http://www.filecluster.com/downloads/Exact-Audio-Copy.html) and LAME to make the best sounding MP3's. Without going into detail, I recorded a track on WMP and on EAC. The WMP mp3 was recorded at 192kps, where the EAC recorded it at a variable rate upto 320kps. Results:
size (kb) / bit rate (kbps) / verdict
WMP: 5245 / 192 / average sound quality larger file!
EAC : 4723 / 256 / good sound, smaller file!
So without employing science, a newer version of an MP3 encoder proceduces better sound with a smaller file - sounds pretty win, win to me, if music on your X1 is important. BTW Bloob is correct with the right player, the X1 produces a far better sound-stage than the iphone or ipod .
On the JBL, sorry I haven't, been testing in-earphones only mainly for portability.

Did you look at the page masseur referred to?
Look at the end of the page where there is a link to MS .Net Framework Compact 3.5. That's what you need.

@the_mont, thanks for all the links and resources for the various headphones.
Regarding the sound stage in the X1, I was referring to the standard Windows Media Player and the Media Xperiance Panel. Both produce impressive sound quality with little distortion. I am currently using the Sony MDR-EX90SL IEM and comparing it with iPod and iTouch, the X1 is distinctly clearer and more expansive, and even without an equaliser, the bass is more than adequate.
So, if you put in another better player like CorePlayer and with proper equaliser settings, the X1 is a very competent media player.
Add in a good pair of headphones (preferably with 2 or 3 drivers and good crossovers), and you can be assured of a good listening experience. Extend it even further with a good headphone amplifier, and you will get a WOW output.

OMG! Thank you for the link Masseur.
Are all those tools compatible with Xperia?
Are they used as individual Apps or can be in a panel? |

just tested a demo unit of x1a @ futuretronics in the houston galleria. the phone is smaller than i imagined. it's also pretty fast, especially when changing to landscape mode. there was no real lag at all when accessing the panels. the only panel that took like 4 secs to boot was the fish panel. other than that, the phone rocks!!!! another annoyance is that no memory card was included!!! the salesman, looked and looked but couldn't find one in the box. also, the price is NOT $799 like was being said. it's actually $899!!! what else, oh, the bond trailer looked awesome on the screen. the screen looks better than the iphone IMHO. so, now i'm pondering whether to dish out $900 for the phone or wait. i definitely can afford the phone, but no memory card: what da hell? i'll prolly wait til the sonysytle store gets the phone next week cuz i believe they offer accidental insurance on the phone. well, if i get one next week, i'll post my review.
Hey there louod, I'm in the exact same boat as you. I went to the Sony Style store here at the Topanga Mall in the LA area of Southern California on Tuesday and played with their X1a display model (incase you didn't know, the Sony Style stores have been selling silver X1a models here in the states SINCE Monday! I don't think SE will make the black ones available here in the states for a while, if at all, as evidenced by my short conversation with the store clerk and a little snooping around online...). I also have to say that after playing with the X1a for a while, I generally came to the same conclusion and opinion of the phone as you did, and have since decided to get the Silver one when I finally do get one (in the next week or so).
Just so you know, I asked about an Accidental Damage plan while at the Sony Style store as well, as I was ready to buy one (as you can never be too sure with reports of cracked cases and what not coming in now), only to find out that they don't offer them on ANY Sony Ericsson phones! Also, the X1a IS retailing for $800 (that was the Sony Style price btw). Futuretronics is just selling the International version at market price (which sells for about roughly $900 every where else if you look around a little), which should change come this Friday, when all the other national retailers that sell unlocked phones start to sell the X1a nationally.
I don't know if you have a Best Buy anywhere around you, but you should make a point of going in and checking one out since they're going to start carrying them this Friday (tomorrow, check there website under "Unlocked Phones" in their cell phone section, and you'll notice the X1a! They've been selling unlocked phones at most of their locations for a while now incase you didn't know that, and some N and E series Nokias subsidized with a T-mobile contract for a while now too!), or you can just call eXpansys since they should have them in stock as well as of tomorrow! By the way, both of those retailers DO offer accidental insurance plans incase you were wondering, which is where I'll probably end up buying my X1 with a plan when I do this weekend (if not off of eBay instead with a Square Trade insurance plan with ADC, since I really want the International version with ungimped video recording!). Give it till the end of the weekend and see how the dust settles before making your purchase decision K? I promise you that once the X1a hits legit retailers here in the US, prices should drop considerably everywhere else with the usual suspects (ie; eBay). I believe that by Monday at the latest you should be able to get a X1a or X1i with ADC coverage somewhere in the range of about $900 before taxes and shipping. I know that's my goal by the end of this weekend! Good luck hunting tomorrow!

Exactly , though be careful with the 2/3 driver theory, many of the earphones you are looking at, and mentioned don't have or need those for a good sound stage. Also I've heard one or two badly implemented version 2/3 drives, so trust your ears, as you're the one who's parting with the hard-earned |

@ louod, it would seem that I put my foot in my mouth with my last post... Sorry, but after checking around today it's become apparent that the X1a is now backordered at all major retailers (including Best Buy) until next week! I'm not sure if Sony Style stores still have them in stock in there brick and mortar stores, but Sony Style online is now showing them as back ordered as well... I managed to buy a X1i (the one I REALLY wanted) online today through a great Ebay seller online with a 4GB micro SD card for about $740 including shipping and a 1 year extended warranty using a 10% off coupon I received via email from eBay!!! If you HAVE to have a X1a with a extended warranty, then I'd say give it another week to two weeks (at the most) before jumping the gun, and you should have no problems getting it for around $900.00 (before taxes and/or shipping) like I mentioned above! Good luck!

borisisinvin, I'm confused. I went to the SonyStyle store at the Topanga mall today based on what you wrote, but when I arrived there to look at the display model to try it out like you did they said the display model was in a rotating glass cabinet that couldn't be removed, and that it was a dummy model anyway (which it was, it had the fake screen display sticker on it). I asked if I could at least hold it to open the keyboard and try the keys and the girl said since it was a dummy model it didn't even open and therefore didn't take it out for me. Needless to say I was a bit irked at driving to the Topanga mall from Sherman Oaks on Black Friday for nothing. Was there a working display model when you went, or did you just handle the dummy model which can't open or be turned on?

Naw, man. They had a working display model out when I went in on Tuesday of this week to check it out. I played with the display model for almost 30 minutes. I totally missed it when I first came in since it wasn't in the display case with the rest of the SE phones, and only caught it on my way out. It was kind of in the front of the store off to the right (behind the consigner's desk in the very front of the store when you first walk in, but still in front of the display case containing the SE phones) on a little nondescript island kind of in between the Vaio and walkman stuff. It was on the same island as their new 13 in flat screen OLED TV that was going for like $4000! The clerk kept coming up to me and telling me how they just got them "... in yesterday, and we're not supposed to have to have them out yet, but had to since two employees bought two of them yesterday." Maybe they re-arranged their stock for black friday, or sold out their entire stock including the working display model?... Sorry to hear you drove out for nothing, but they definitely had a display model out that you could play with in the store when I went in on Tuesday. Plus, Sherman Oaks isn't THAT far to drive to get to the Topanga Mall. It's a straight shot on the 101 and right off the freeway... It does suck however to hear that you drove in on Black friday though, sorry about that. |

Up to six only... Quite a disappointment, but I think it's software is derived from HTC, as their radio also can store 6 stations...Do correct me if you guys have bettter answer. |
