If I could hazard a guess based on technical reasons, I would guess any one of the following:
- 32, 767
- 2,147, 483, 647
- 4, 294, 967, 295
Those are the upper bounds of a signed 16-bit, signed 32-bit, and unsigned 32-bit integers in C++. It is possible that they could very well have used an unsigned 64-bit integer too... I don't know...
Of course, this is just a wild guess with the assumption that the contact application lists the contacts sequentially and simply. It all depends on the implementation of various things on the P990i.
For example, would you run out of storage before running out of indexes or keys to associate contact entries with (if the storage/retrieval was done in that way).
Also, how is the displayed contact list implemented? If it doesn't load the entire list into memory at once, you could theoretically have an unlimited amount of contacts, limited only by storage. |

Aha, so I guess there is no one that cares to calculate all this and tell us a number, like 1000 or so...

I don't think you can calculate an exact number... As I said, it depends on how the developers implemented the Contacts application. The numbers that I quoted are possible limits, based on one type of simple implementation.
But if they have a more complex system, you can't really "calculate" anything. Perhaps you could if you had knowledge of the implementation. |

Yes, it must be somewhat complicated. That's perhaps why not even the User Guide nor the WhitePaper from SE state anything pertaining to this. At least I could not find anything.

Select all ->Delete...Unless you want to save a great number of them.
Such a great number has a negative effect on the messaging program, it's not good practice to keep so many messages either in the inbox or the sent items folder.

I too have more than 1000 sms inside inbox, and the same in the sent box. I would like to keep all the messages archived on the PC, but still I didn't find a good program to do this. Any suggestion??

Well, yeah, 1000 sms in the Inbox is crazy. Use Message Storer or Sms Diary to back it up. I only have 140 in the Inbox/Sent and the Message app takes 3 seconds to open, I can't imagine how long takes yours.
