How long had it been there? Do the networks permanently block SIM cards that have not been used for a long time? In Naija, it is 3 months.

@coola: If you follow this thread, last month Vodacom announced that they would be cutting off SIM cards which they deemed "inactive"...For instance, if you hardly make calls and buy airtime once every three months to extend your network window you might be cut off from their network. Usually you can buy a sim card and you'd get a window of say six to three months before you've purchased airtime- very fair IMO.
@786KBR: I saw that ad, did take much note of it as I've never fed the corporate fatcats...besides, I'm not interested in downloading wallpapers to my phone.

@brix, lol! Thanx for the tip!
i make all my wallpapers from whatever i like from the net: quality is 100 times better than anything you can get. same with ringtones. either my own music or from mp3s. why pay when you can do a perfect job.

Just read this evening that 19% of foreign visitors to the BBC's wapsite came from South Africa...the country with most visitors was Nigeria with 60-odd% of visitors.
Check out the Beeb's technology section for a full breakdown of the numbers.

The Link in the UK has introduced the VGA-equipped, 15MB K310i at £39.99 (approx R520) when you trade in any old brick, on the O2 network.
http://www.thelink.com
Carphone Warehouse have dropped the price of the chrome D600 to £129.95 (approx R1690), the Moto V3i down to £119.95 (approx R1560) and the W300i is now £99.95 (approx R1300) today.
As usual, £10 airtime has to be bought to with each, but they are the usual unlocked, sim-free stock.
Tomorrow we head of to Torquay along the Devon coast, made (in)famous by Monty Python's John Cleese in the series 'Fawlty Towers'.
Then we're off to Penzance and Land's End in Cornwall, followed by our trek up to Aberystwyth along the Welsh coast.
After that it's the 'original' Llandudno and Conwy in northern Wales, followed by a tour of northern England's Lake District before we hit Scotland. It's been 4 years since I was last in the Borders and Highlands areas of Scotland.
Don't know how much esato-time I'm gonna have over the next week or so with all the driving, but I'll be posting a host of pics taken with the phones when The Wanqsta Omnibus returns to WanqaWorld next Friday.
Salani gahle.
