Has anyone had any problems using their X10 as a satnav with Google Maps Navigation?

I've tried twice so far, both times on a 3 hour journey with it plugged into an in-car charger. Both times everything has started out ok - the phone appeared to be charging and Google Navigation was working well. But during both journeys, the phone got quite hot, the battery went from approx. 90% charge down to 0% and the phone restarted itself (not necessarily in that order). I'm not sure how long it all stayed working for before it restarted as I wasn't paying much attention, but it was less than 2 hours.

The in-car charger works fine when used normally with the phone in standby, so I'm not convinced its a problem with that. I haven't tried using navigation without the charger yet, but will do at some point to see what happens.

I have read reports somewhere that some smartphones can't charge fast enough while they're being used, but I'm not sure if this is true.

Any thoughts?

@t0m
I'm quite unfamiliar with the charger problem that you have as I've tried using google maps while charging without a hiccup, and the battery level either sustained or was slowly increasing but then again I haven't been using them together for such an extended period of time so I can't say for sure. But then again AFAIK SE car chargers have always been more like a rapid charger and I wish the same technology could be applied on our normal chargers, so it's unlikely that the power input can't sustain the power output.

I'm thinking of getting a x10 this week, does that mean I can upgrade it to 2.1 when it comes out? If so, can you teach a newbie how?

@kckqoo

Welcome to this fine forum! You will certainly be able to upgrade to the new firmware when it is released for whichever carrier/region you purchase. The UK and Spanish release is said to start week after next and some more remote and other language regions will probably be over the following weeks so get antsy if you don't get your upgrade at 8AM Monday 20th. When it arrives in the end could be anyone's guess.

To upgrade to 2.1 yo can either do it on the phone through settings -> about phone -> software update or by connecting your phone to your PC and using the 'Sony Ericsson Update Service' (SEUS as it's known to the hardcore SE geeks and freaks). There is also the 'PC Companion' software which comes with the phone but basically that is SEUS accessed in a slightly different way.
I have a dig bick
You read that wrong

Sounds simple enough, thank you! That makes my decision to get one much simpler. All that's left is to choose between black or white hmmm....

I have experienced the same problem, but when I used Navigon software. It has happened to me 2 times, but it never reached 0% since I noticed it in time (~20% left). One time I also had BT activated and connected to a BT-speaker. The charger doesn't seem to be able to charge quick enough.

Cheers,

I use the AN300 car charger by itself and managed to charge it from 70 to 90% while navigating on a 1.5 hour trip. Have a look at the charger's output. The AN300 has the same output as the wall charger, 700mA.

Yeah but what is the original fb-app called in the market?

the one that i find/and fb links to (download android for your x10) is not the same app (and i have tried it, don't like it)

Another q: after the latest Handcent update, it seems that i can't longer browse for a custom signal, i get to the internal signals without the previos option to chose "android or browse for music"

So where do i put my signals now? so they apear with the default signals?

Yeah in the old one the Notifications does not work/show/update

in this "new" updated notifications work, but if you press a notification you get redirected to the browser... that tries to load the original facebook page.. and when you input user/password it does not work... :S
