@ Menageryl, sad but true, the telcos seem to expect that all their clients are of that breed which only makes calls and sends mms/sms, and occasionally downloads something via Exactmobile or one of the other legitimate thieves, and are thus content to be placated with a different brand/model. Good on ya for correcting them!

I think the 6680 was the first Nokia phone(locally) to be branded. The N70 is branded all over the place...at the front and the back. MTN/Cell C don't brand their handsets quite as badly as Vodafone does.
My ex gf has owns a 6280 on MTN and it's absoluely brilliant...you can watch any media stream. On Vodacom I can't do this using Vlive.

That sucks!
I remember when MTN were the ones guilty of restricting phones. Now this rubbish.
Have you looked into removing the branded software at all or do you just tolerate it? |

@Siosal: Couldn't be bovvered with changing to generic firmware if that's what you 're trying to ask...Unlike for instance Vodafone-branded Motorola's, I can change the look of those ugly menu icons to the normal Nokia ones by simply reverting to original themes.
I've owned the N70 for two months now and the paintwork has already started to peel off even though I've got it covered in a clearview plastic cover.
Anybody played around with Visual Communicator?

My N70 still looks in mint condition. The only major problem it has is - it won't connect a incoming call while on gprs. So I have to get of the gprs when I am not using it. The funny thing is that when is on edge or 3g all is fine. Only gprs seems problematic. Fortunately I am on Edge most of the time, but one never knows while driving around which connection typ comes to 'life'. Anyone knows when the handycam cellphone N93 comes to SA? Greetings from Jeffreys

Expansys in the UK have 26 P990i's left at the moment...I'm keen to see how long it takes before they're all sold out, even at the mindblowing price of £594.95 (approx R7700)...

One of the UK networks, Orange, has now decided to stock the white version of the W810.

' BAH!!!!
' I just spoke to my primary supplier (which tends to be pretty-much ahead of the pack as far as getting just-released and cutting-edge stuff before most others; and who's staff generally are pretty well-informed and understand the tech. etc. - unlike MOST others I've EVER encountered!!!) here in South Africa... And while I haven't confirmed it elsewhere, doing so might be a bit of a waste of time from my perspective anyways as my insurance company has signed off replacing my stolen P900 via these guys specifically... Going about and twisting their arms to try get 'em to sign-off another company now could be either or both painful and catastrophic.
' Anyways. Spoke to said supplier. Turns out there is stock sitting available and waiting here already... Problem is their suppliers haven't yet made pricing available...
' I was told that they could arrange for a handset ANYWAYS - but due to inaccurate and unknown pricing models they'd have to charge over DOUBLE the expected price if that's what I wanted. (They quoted something STUPID like R15000!!!)
' Otherwise, they expect they should receive pricing in about (or within - with Murphy at play these two different words probably mean the same thing under these circumstances) two weeks!!!!! (BTW: When said pricing DOES arrive they expect it to be around R6000-ish SIM-free)
' ARGHSSGHHGHHH!!!! <gurgles!>
' Sigh. I suppose I'll continue to bother 'em every few days just in case the worst-case-scenario doesn't become gospel.
' But there you have it. I have another two weeks to go approximately before my life is complete. <sighs & smiles sadly>

Whoa  show me anyone who's paying R15k for a phone and I'll show you 1000s willing to pay less than 50% for an iMate JasJam or whatever the HyTcn is called. Still the P990 seems a good acquisition if anyone can get it.
@brad: Never noticed the end of free internet on the vlive.

That's the spirit, Menageryl, don't let up on em! And if all else fails, ranting and raving does work... Holler long and hard enough and eventually they tend to capitulate...

Taken today with the Nokia 3230 while Wanqa Tours was showing family around the usual London tourist traps:
Buckingham Palace as seen from the walkway bridge crossing the adjacent, stunning St. James's Park.

Can anyone on Vodacom PAYG confirm whether Gprs is free on the vodacom4u APN. If indeed it is then I'm listening to Virtual Radio the whole night.
