Guys is the X1 a good buy? No major bugs and stuff?
I'm a Linux/Unix man using a windows phone.......
And owner/user of p800, p910, p990 & X1, need more reassurance ?
Sure it has SW bugs and HW problems like weak plastic frames, but
if you can live with windows mobile then you will have no problems.
(better than samsung i780 and the likes)
I love toys.
I'm a Unix guy also. Once you get past the Win mobile bugs, you'll love this phone. Sure it needs some dedicated time to set it up how you like, but like Unix when you do, its great. Plenty of tips available start with installing Xperia Tweaks.
(this was sent from my X1, pretty fast @ typing now

My silver one hasn't cracked.

Sorry, but you're asking for that..
Just how was I asking for that? And no, it won't.
"Sorry, but you're asking for that.."
I've had a K750 (many people reported problems with the joystick) yet never had a joystick problem, I've had a K800 again no joystick problems. I've had a W910 which apparently restarts all the time, yet mine has never restarted yet. I've been told winmo screens a prone to scratching because they are softer than non-touchscreens, yet I've never had a scratch yet.
Now I'm not saying there are none of the above problems. I'm just saying that not all owners of the above phones have had those problems. In some cases it comes down to variable quality control, in some cases it comes down to treatment. For example I always take care of my phones - I never use in rain, never put them in pockets with keys, coin etc, usually leave them cased when leaving them floating around in my laptop bag, etc. I also debrand all my phones and run clean firmware, and format my memory cards every few months or so.
I always have in the back of my mind a thought about how any kind of treatment might affectg my phone (for example I never put the phone in a top pocket when going to the toilet! ) I put a reasonable amount of thought into how I treat my electronic gizmos. They're my babies!
I don't know if any of the above helps, but I do know that I don't have any of the hardware or software problems that some people seem to spend a lot of time posting about.
Maybe your X1 will develop the fault, but maybe the others who have the problem have rough hands? Or maybe they were unlucky and got the dodgy batch that slipped through quality control (SE quality control is VERY variable)

I am stuck with a dilemma too. Should i buy the x1 to stick to the P1i.
I currently have a P1i which does everything I want, but I was seriously tempted to get the X1 for a while. Lots of good things about the X1, but here are the reasons that I won't get one:
a) Reception quality. I live in a fairly poor reception area, and feedback in the forums is that the X1 doesn't get as strong a signal as some other phones.
b) Bluetooth dropping out. An acknowledged bug that will probably be fixed in a firmware update but is currently a problem.
c) Remote track control via BT headphones - mixed reports as to whether this works well.
d) Ability to play audio tracks encoded with AAC+ codec - might be OK but not confirmed.
e) No ability to use SE remote control wired headphones, because proprietory SE port has been replaced by standard 3.5mm port.
f) Ability to run certain Java programs (which are important to me) is not confirmed.
So I think I'll be sticking with my P1i for a while longer.
Best regards,
Malcolm

I too am in a similar predicament. As much as I have been an "SE-boy" from the GH-388 days, the P990 debacle left me with a sour taste in my mouth. The SE X1 however was about to bring me back to the fold until I read about the questionable build quality in respect of the stylus well especially with the silver model? For a premium phone to exhibiy such wear and tear after barely a week of use is unacceptable. I am on the verge of getting the Touch Pro myself. |

I love my P1i. I does almost all the things i want. But i am bored of using the same phone for more than 15 months. Plus its scratched and all. I would have bought the X1 by now but the only thing thats stopping me is that in my area the X1 is not available in SILVER as of now. I want the silver one just because i dont want the scratches to be seen on it.

The X1 comes with a total of 384 megabytes of RAM memory. Only 256 megabytes is visible in the system, but this is because these 256 megabytes is strictly for applications. At boot there’s about 152 megabytes free.
The remaining 128 megabytes of RAM memory is used for both the video graphics and CPU. According to the MSM7200A datasheet, the graphics part of the chipset (presumably the ATI Imageon 2300 or 2700G chip) is capable of delivering up to 4 million 3D triangles per second, and 133 million 3D textured pixels per second fill rate. Furthermore, it supports OpenGL ES - link that up with the large amount of dedicated video memory, and you’ve got an awesome power horse or gaming machine
