it's halloween...every year the legend of the blurry appears/then disappears

i've not seen any blurs in any photos

i suggest t o stop the verbal ping pong
that those with evidence of the blur
draw a circle around the blurry parts and end the now urban legend of the blurry

Oh really?
Is it the colors? Noise? Or maybe details?!
And then how could you actually claim Satio's daylight pictures better despite the noise. Isn't the noise supposed to be a standard for judging too..

Get real! I'm a Satio owner and actually very satisfied with it.. But let's be honest, it no match for the N8 in any asepct.

----------------------------------------------

The only two things holding me back from getting N8 is my attachment to SE and hoping they would release an N8 killer on Symbian^4 mid next year (very much of a wishful thinking, I know), and the fact that it has no camera cover..

So a question for Jake and Etaab, as you guys were both Satio users and seem to give the most honest feedbacks on the net so far..
What are your impressions regarding teh lens? Deciding on two aspects: scratches and dust!

And is the N8 easy to dessemble as the Satio? If you tried that already..

And it would be nice to post some pics with flash..

@false_morel

I was not a Satio owner.. I have a C905, and was in love with it for a long time.
I loved the lens cover, and with Witchking's CBE driver, you could do anything with it as far as customization.

But its almost hard to take a bad picture with the N8, and its low light performance is amazing.
Not having a camera cover stinks but its not that big of a deal for me. It does not seem to collect much dust at all when in my pocket, and a quick wipe with my shirt is all that is needed if there is something on the glass.
Even with my C905 I still had to wipe down the glass due to dust and lint gathering on it, and it was covered.
You can just see the quality of the pictures with N8.. no post processing artifacts, low noise, and just clean images almost all the time.
Yea, the N8 also doesn't have an LED video light, and my C905 had a triple LED light that was pretty bright, but still only really lit up thing that were a couple feet away at best.
I actually used it more for a flashlight than to actually record video.
I do wish the N8 had one also, but its not that big of a deal for me that it doesn't. The N8 has a really bright orange auto focus assist LED, and I have a feeling that someone will write an app to use that as a torch

But there are some things about the camera that I do not like.
1. Yes, the flash does not appear to be as strong as my C905, but its still xenon, and it still manages to light the subject that I need it to light.
To compare it to any LED is just a ridiculous thing to say.
Look at this pic taken with my N8 on all AUTO, in total darkness with a fan on high speed.
Try taking this shot with an LED.. you won't be able to freeze the fan in motion like this with any LED no matter how powerful it is.

2. Night time slow shutter photography. This seems to been a big oversight by the designers, as you do not have the ability to manually slow down the shutter speed enough to blur movement like moving car lights.
They need to add in some manual shutter speed control with future updates.

3. Panorama. There is a new panorama app out there now, and its pretty good, but its missing key features like being able to control the camera settings for the pano shot. So you have no choice but to use default settings, and this means that the flash may or may not go off depending on the light level.
Hopefully this will be addressed in a future update as well.

I have no idea about dissemble, but its just 2 screws to remove to get to the battery, so thats not a big deal, but I do not anticipate every needing to change the battery.
No doubt you will just have to be a little more careful with how you set the phone down just to make sure the lens doesn't get damaged, but I do that anyway with all of my phones, so for me its no big deal.

People into Night Photography should not buy the N8 just yet. Take a look at this thread @ dpreview:

@ false_morel - i just think of it this way, i owned my N95 8gb for almost 2 years before upgrading and its camera was about the same placement as the N8 with no protection.

Its really not an issue. The glass covering the lens is tough and durable. Like jake20 said if you put the phone down and not throw it about it shouldnt be a problem. Obviously if you keep your phone in a pocket or handbag with a bunch of keys then of course something will get scratched.

@ Davidsic - again im not really interested in anything from Mobile-Review, they're not an unbiased source of information anymore. Im also not interested in pictures from anyone who hasnt posted them as their own on this site. Like i said, nobody seems to want to put a red ring like edwardob said, like i did, much earlier in this thread around blurry images in users pictures. Especially mine.

@ jake20 - remember the panorama app which was first shown AFAIK at Nokia World is meant to be a premium app, the current release is actually a free cut down beta version of an unfinished app.

yes, the Nokia Panorama app that is out now does seem like a beta version. I hope for something better soon.

Thanks for the replies..

As to the cover, I got the idea.. I still have to see it first hand and judge..

As to your points Jake:
1. Night shots are the best with N8. However, the Xenon is not.
It's not bad either.. The photo you posted is of excellent quality considering the power of flash!
And as to LED comparison, to be honest, a camera without Xenon is no real camera for me. I almost shoot all of my photos at night.. Now, you know why I'm stressing on the flash..

2. The N8 isn't meant to shoot artistic images! There are DSLRs for this job..
Shooting at very low shutter speeds shouldn't be a function of any point and shoot cameras. Because obviously, these are supposed to do quite the contrary: point and shoot.
Casual, spontaneous, amatuer photos!

Add to that, shooting those photos without tripods and control over other manual setting such as the aperture is pointless!

Anyway, to sum it up, the only aspect the N8's cam doesn't excell at is the night flash photos! And it'S due to the phisically smaller flash. Despite the fact that the sensor could make up for that by highering the ISO and maintain a low-noise photos. And this is compared to other stand-alone cameras which are usually equipped with considerably more powerful flash units. However, compared to other mobile phones, it's still the best in every aspect..

@ jake20 - yeah thats the one, it uses a sweeping method rather than a shoot, move, shoot again method unlike the app on the Ovi store.

Either they're two seperate apps (most likely), or the premium version seen at Nokia World uses a better method of creating the image.

So id expect to see a better panorama app released in the near future which you'd pay for.

Ive just packed up my N8 to return to Nokia tomorrow. Sadly i wont be able to post any pictures myself for the next week or so until i get a replacement.

One thing is for sure, my girlfriend isnt going anywhere near my next N8 in case she drops it and this happens again. Thats if she was responsible for the damage, which i cannot be certain.
