I would never purchase/use an iphone on anything other than O2, buying an expensive phone and then diddling it therefore invalidating the warranty is not a sensible thing to do IMO, i won't buy an iphone until they start selling them sim-free in the UK, so i have a very long wait

...and in the meantime you're missing out on all the fun
I've never used a device for so much of the day before, except a pc

HeHe well Masseur, if "fun" was my #1 priority in a mobile then i'd be right in there .
However, i need my device to emulate my PC whilst i'm away from it, in that area, the iphone has a few shortcomings.

true, and I mentioned exactly that in this thread just last week which is why I always have a WM device by my side.
I've carried at least 2 devices for years so may as well make one for fun and one for business...

It's a little over a fortnight till I'm allowed mine (birthday present). I'll be getting it on O2 since it's as fair a contract as any - the £30pm will suit me well. By the time that contract is up in 18 months, there's bound to be a way to unlock it for free anyway, and if not - well - ebay will still want it even if I don't.

The prices are holding up very well on Ebay, so that sounds like a good plan, and a very nice present Boinng

there's an unlock for it now (sort of). I use a turbo sim type thingy to insert my tmob sim in crappy O2 areas... and that doesn't void warranty or anything as when you take it out the phone is exactly as it was before

What do the experienced iphone users amongst us think of this. I'm due an upgrade from my N95 8GB soon with Vodafone. I'd really like to buy into the iphone experience next as everyone I know that has one has never looked back. But I don't want to leave Voda and I don't want to sign up to an 18 month contract with O2. And I do want a 3G iphone.
I know there's several countries that sell the iphone officially unlocked by Apple. I've heard they cost around £450 in this form? I'm thinking I could upgrade to something like a Nokia N96 or BB Storm and sell that brand new to recoup a large amount of that iphone cost. Then I have an officially unlocked iphone for not a huge amount of money that I can use my Voda sim in? And I presume there wouldn't be any issues with using my Voda sim in it, no loss of features? Other than visual voicemail I'd expect.
Am I missing anything here? And where's the best place to get an officially unlocked one from? Ideally straight from the Apple store in one of those countries I should think. |

So what did you do scouser...did you put a bid in?
Not yet dude. Still working on it. I currently have a couple of options
One is an OFFICIALLY unlocked iphone from Italy.
The other option is a UK model with a turbo sim. But the latter is asking for a little too much - £450 - which is about £40 more than what I would if I bought a brand new PAYG handset with a £10 turbo sim. I'm gonna tell the guy this and see if he drops his price a touch.
Will keep you all updated
PS Strewth all mighty!!! In prep for my imminent iPhone I just had a look at the App Store and OH MY GOSH How on earth is anyone to find what they are looking for on there??? There a kerzillions of apps... on each sub section!!
I wish I had the time to look through all of em

@ScoobyD I think that would be your best bet, to upgrade to something of high value and sell it on, and use to money to put towards an iPhone. I guess the decision on whether or not to buy an officially unlocked one or to buy a O2 payg one using a turbo sim really depends on the price you can get an unlocked one for. Personally i think £450 is far too much for it. Masseur uses a turbo sim and afaik hasnt reported any problems with using it at all, so that could be a better option for you
@scouser_75
yeah there are a hell of a lot of apps on the app store now! Generally most of the good ones will be in the Top 10/Top 25 and obviously it's always good to check out the user reviews to get an idea of whether theyre worth download.
Keep us updated with your purchase!
@Trev... i think what he's doing in that vid is connecting his iPhone to his computer so that he can control the volume on the phone. Why though, i dont know! Sounds a pretty pointless thing to do, but i guess it just displays an actual use for the bluetooth outside of just being able to connect a headset |

Ryan, in preparation for the imminent arrival of my iPhone I’ve been trying to locate the Categories theme you recommended. But no matter how much I Google I still can’t seem to find it.
Any chance you could point me in the right direction for Categories… and any other software you think I should have?
I’m assuming I’ll need to Jailbreak the phone first, right?
Thanks

Yeah i understand your point about inputting a number, having to open up the phone app, then the keyboard tab...it takes a tad longer than just typing in the number straight away. With the regard to the texting - it gets better trust me! It just takes some getting used to, but the word correction is very good on it so if you just mis-type a letter, carry on typing and it'll correct the word at the end.
I can answer one of your concerns, cos this is one things thats keeps me on a jailbroken iphone, an application called Categories... i too couldn't stand having apps everywhere, and all different types jumbled up. This is a simple way of finding what you want pretty quickly, and keeps everything neat and organised in folders
