I bought a N80 which arrived in the week it's in good condition however ive decided on taking it appart and rehousing it as it needs a UI anyway, rest is fine but my mates given me a brand new full back for it aswell.. in the end it will be a Black Pearl N80 btw lol

I firstley updated the softwear then decided to update it to the Internet Edition using the NSS and Nokia Update which i did this saturday I also done my mates this fw is better as ive not got WiFi scanning on main display

the phones very good im overally happy with it it's abit slow on bootup though are all N80's slow when you switch them on?

Many ppl on other threads around the world have also purchased the E90 - only to enjoy it for a short 1-2mth period.

Out of EVERY review/thread that I come across this phone NOTHING bad is mentioned about it. NOTHING save for multimedia. And its not that it DID NOT perform well in multimedia, sound was MORE than adequate compared to other manufacturer's phones; but they end up letting it go.

ITs not even the size that has pulled them off. Many have VERY good things to say about its performance, power, voice quality, camera quality, BUILD QUALITY ; however something is LEFT UNSAID.

I'm willing to bet that its the portfolio design that has put many ppl off of the E90. Although the screen outside is good, its small in order to really enjoy videos web-browsing. Most ppl keep forgetting its design is for BUSINESS professionals - given Dogman's previous business I think he's the exception. However using it for multimedia - everyone will most likely & become accustomed to opening the phone to enjoy its full potential.

Personally before I return to the S60 platform from 2 years exodus, the N81 will need to ship or I may just wait until next year when the N82 debuts with Video out and rumored dedicated hardware graphic acceleration, a la N95 .

@miss uk the boot takes time in every smart fones, longer or shorter. compared to p990, imo n80 far more faster. my e60 takes ca 45 secs till boot ended.

Um sell what?

Consider this.

How often do you surf internet on your mobile phone? Via Built-in Nokia Browser, NetFront, or Opera Mini??!!

If avg 1hr or 30mins/day and its VERY consistent then your borderline going to NEED WiFi built in - especially if data coverage is faster on WiFi. (low latency)
Also are you ALWAYS wanting to lug your laptop around JUST for WiFi or Email ?? If no ...then keep the WiFi.

Lessoned value upon selling it I guess.

You may have paid a certain amount and there; at least within Europe, the price has fallen quite considerably.

Well, its STILL the only one that has fabulous video out (the N93 also supports video out - N92 I think as well). So its not a complete loss.

@Prom1

You are very right there does seem to be large proportion of people that bought the E90 that as you say for no particular mentioned reason seem to sell it within quite a short period of time and to be honest i am as confused about it as you are. The only thing i can think of is many bought it as a status symbol and then discovered it wasn't really what they needed as lets face it if you really don't need all it's functionality it certainly is a large device.

I really couldn't explain exactly why or what it is although in my case it was a combination of two things, the first being i was extremely disappointed in Nokia that even though it had the same hardware as the N93/N93i/N95 with the very powerful Omap2420 chip and graphics they saw fit to still only give it the E series Music player. Which i suppose is understandable as it is a E series device and really for business users but for me this was a disappointment and meant it didn't fulfill my needs as the ultimate convergence device which is what i was seeking to replace my two device strategy which was my current choice of use.

Though there have been some reports of uneven rubber feet and the keys leaving marks on the screen on some mine suffered from none of these faults. The OS was also rock solid and no issues with it at all. However after using the internal qwerty it would mysteriously leave grease marks on the screen which of course were easily wiped off but still slightly annoying. There have also been some reports from some of problems with the microphone although not that many from what i have read.

Due to these issues Nokia stopped releasing the E90 and have changed the hinge case design slightly to stop the screen rub. Although as mine was a later release it appeared to of already had this modification.

I most probably would of kept the E90 if it was not for the Music Player issue and the fact that i suddenly realised my ultimate convergence device needs were not going to be satisfied with this device. I also realised at he same time just how many devices i had owned an used in just over a year and decided as i was retired i really didn't need half the things i was constantly seeking in all these new devices besides costing me a small fortune i couldn't even guess how much i have spent in the 22 years i have been feeding my addiction.

Since then i have sold not just the E90 but also my N95 and have returned to using my current favourite device my E61 which for my needs is both fast enough and powerful enough. For my Multimedia needs i have now bought a 80GB Ipod which i have had now for 4 days not only do i now understand why people say iTunes is so good but as have i converted my Music @256kbps AAC and all the cover art was automatically added realise it really is a a great app and really does produce great results. I have also added a lot of Films and Videos of TV episodes in MP4 and the quality really is quite astounding on what is a really excellent screen IMO i now better understand what all the fuss about the iPod is about it really is a great bit of kit IMO great looking and excellent build quality and the scroll wheel really is very quick and easy to use. All i am waiting for now is my Vaja case to arrive to make it complete.

So for now i will still stick to a separate device for each of my needs until such time as my ultimate device appears if it ever does as i do believe Mobile device manufacturers just don't want to deliver one even though i do believe it is possible and i am not singling out any particular maker they are all as guilty as each other of this IMO.

After 22 years of constantly buying the latest and greatest released devices just because i could and to see what they can do is over for me at least. That doesn't mean i am no longer interested and won't keep up with any developments just my need for the latest and greatest is over. The only device i am really waiting for is the next generation incarnation of the E61 as for me the qwerty and large screen are about as good as it gets IMO.

The things i am looking for in this will be same design but with the newer OMAP SERIES 3 Chip and 7.2mbps HSDPA and that really are the only things i would like to see improved on. These are just my conclusions and the place i have reached after 22 years and am not suggesting this is what may be right for anyone else but i do believe it is for me and my current needs.

Marc

@A L 3 X

To me it does sound as though you are both bored with it and not really using it enough or to it's full potential to warrant keeping it. Believe me i have been there and done that many times over if you are lucky maybe you have learned a lesson quite quickly and relatively cheaply and maybe in future you will consider if and why you want a new device before just buying it because you can.

Their is of course the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it, which could be adapted to if your current device really does all you need why change it for something else just because it's newer or more powerful or has a better spec, if you really don't need it or aren't going to use them. Unfortunately in life the only way any of us really learn is from experience some learn faster than others. But really only you can decide what you really need or want from your device. Good luck reaching a decision and I'm sure you will reach the right decision for you.

Marc

Hi folks, I have a question:

I have the N80 (Internet Edition, if there's much difference from the vanilla N80 other than the 512 MB card), and I was wondering if there's a way to get the music player from the N91 or the Music Edition S60 phones (N73 ME, N70 ME) into this thing.

The standard music player works fine, but the interface is very clunky. If what I ask above is not possible can you suggest other good music players that work with the N80? Thanks in advance.

PS. with the exception of non-existent battery life, this thing KILLS! great screen, very workable performance (fw ver 5.0719.0.2) and overall, a fresh change for me, having owned only /// and all my life

@ eskaparate,yes the N80 is a great phone,i have been enjoying mine for the past two months or so, i find the Music Player a bit boring,but a great music is LCG JUKEBOX, it has great interface and album art, unfortunetly i dont have the download link for it

@ miss uk, i find the N80 a generally slow phone,but for me its start up is on par with my previous phones ( SE W900) start up time.
