@Gabster - Similar to what I have found this evening - it appears to be the calender syncing causing the very slow bootup times and general unresponsiveness. I have reflashed this evening to get everything back to normal and the phone is 100 times faster booting and in general use.
There must be something funny going on with the calender.

Unrelated - today I noticed a couple of new themes for download on the SE site. Called black and white they appear to be variations on the Ambient and Default themes, and IMO they look a little nicer.

SMS

- As in the w800/k750, is the 'recently sent to' list there when choosing a recipient for the text?

Not that I can see

- How many dialogs do you have to go through when sending a text?
(in w800 its joystick left>select sms>write message>select number[with recent list available]>send)

click messaging icon on desktop, click create new message, choose sms, enter recipient, enter text, click send

General

- Is it possible to display notes on the homescreen?

NO

- Does the Today screen show appointments with time (10:00 Dentist) Or only the number of appointments for that day?

If you have any calendar entries for today then a '+' appears next to calendar on the today screen. you can click the + too see the detail, again on the today screem then you can click the individual item to go to that entry in the calendar. Same for missed calls etc.

- Are the buttons with no numbers on them (eg the letter 'q') useless in standby mode?

No, if you press and hold any letter you are taken into the contacts list at the point starting with that letter

- In standby mode, are the softkeys on the touchscreen reassignable?

No.

- Does the calls list only remember the time and date of only the last call from a specific caller like the w800?

there is compact mode where it shows one entry per contact per call type (missed call, dialled call etc) or extended mode where it shows all calls individually

additional to your questions you might like to know that the internet button is reassignable to activity menu, internet, main menu, media player, sound recorder or task manager. This was a big WANT in previous P series and was only achievable with 3rd party apps.

key lock can be activated in standby mode by pressing the * key and then the "lock keys" soft key, and unlocked the same way, or you can just press and hold the return button (the one under the scroll wheel) to activate or deactivate the key lock.

I've reflashed my M600. While doing so it downloaded SEUS 2.6.6.11 and this time it completed the update fully, whereas last time it looked like it completed it fully judging by the green bars but 15 minutes later it had not told me it was complete.

Now it seems to be running smoother and I've only had 1 non-responsiveness this evening

@Gabster

Outlook - I have synced this on Friday and have not seen any issues. Switching-off the on-screen hand writting had a signifcant postive impact on UI performance. I have 600 contacts, all UK public holidays and special day events and probably about 7/10 appoints per month 4 month ahead and about 30 notes. There is a bug to do with All Day Events I discovered but can't see how this could have caused a slow down. The delay you describe remind of caching problems with an early versions of Agendus for UIQ2.1 had.

Just wondering how configurable the UI is on the m600, are the components of the UI configurable enough to make the theme i've thrown together in the attached image?

The white one is a sexy little phone, to have a nice OS X theme running on it would look sweet as, but is it possible?

I've had the phone reset only once, it was done automatically while using the browser with the message saying it's being done to improve performance. I have around 600 phone book entries and the speed seems to be fine. The only issue I have is that the reception is quite bad even with full signal strength I keep getting lapses and voice garbles even with the new firmware. never faced this with my P900 or P910.

Anyone else have this issue?

despite the fact that my M600 is runnnig smoother since the latest reflash I did get the battery warning twice in a row this morning, within 20 seconds of each other, and the second one caused it to power off!

M600: No crashes and no battery problems. I have stopped using the browser to see the impact on memory leakage and I do not charge via USB and have switched-ff the on-screen handwritting recognition. I have been monitoring memory and have noticed that the Control Panel app and apps within the Control Panel are the ones that don't seem to release memory when they are stopped.

@ Gabster

My friend has been raving about the M600 and has been telling all his friends to get one. Having listened to his advice I can confirm that I regret this enormously...what is the point of buying a beautiful phone that runs slower than a windows phone?!? You said that we should wait for an improved software but there is no hope in the very near future...hence I am returning to the most incredible PDA...the KJam.

While the Qtek 8500 has yet to be released I think it has potential despite having no touch screen or WiFi...I mean it is more compact and is slimmer than the M6OO...What do you think?

@PEZ my M600 is no slower than my HTC Universal and for some functions it is faster as the M600's resolution is lower and therefore the graphics are quicker. The M600i also has much much better sound reproduction.

My M600i is vastly faster and less buggy than my O2 Exec was - and that had the benefit of three firmware updates, and still it couldn't always receive a SMS without crashing, or always ring when someone called.

Bugger it.

Just called Vodafone here in the UK and they have moved the date BACK from the 26th of June to the 12th July.

Arse.

Is this because of the problems people here have been talking about?

@Mr. H. Cancel you Vodafone contract, get a PAC code and call phones2udirect and go for the O2 package that is £30 per month - the total 12 month cost of this package can be less than £300 if you switch to the £16 tariff after 6 months

it seems Symbian 9.xx is still not ready for primetime. reading about all the problems here has completely put me off the M600 for the time being.

a friend has one of the new blokias running Symban 9 as well and so many times, he thought that the phone had hung when sending a text message because it took so long.

in a sense it was reassuring to hear his stories because it seems then that the problem is not the M600 per se but the OS in general.
