Hello All,

I would like to ask for help from the many experienced p990 users in this forum. I have 2 issues.

Wifi:
I keep getting connection refused from the phone. I am on R5A17. Can you connect via wifi even if you are in flight mode?

Fring:
Can fring work on R5A17? If so do you need to install audio and the other s/w along with fring? and where can I get them? When I go to the fring site, they say fring will only work if the phone had been upgraded to the latest firmware. I am on a a CDA162007/8 so it will be a while before any updates surfaces for us in this part of the world.

Many thanks for your help!

Wow, thank you for showing!!!

Why didn't you upgrade yet to the newest fw?

You have world2, correct? Do you have BlackBerry installed by the firmware?

Depends... as I had the World1, my RAM was only 59MB to 5MB. With my Netherland I have now 61MB to 3MB and his World2 shows the same. SO I like probably to get my hands on the CDA files to change the CDA to World2.

Anybody has them??? [addsig]

But that is CDA/2 with R5. Someone with CDA/2 and R6E28 should check how their memory shows up.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD

I have world generic 2 with R6E28, and only have 59MB!

If you want the files to change your CDA to world generic 2, I can upload them, but I guess if it's only 59MB, it may not be what you wanted?

Yes you are right, but thank you very, very much for offering!!! As I said, I had the World1 and the newest fw with 59MB only.

This confirms that the firmware version CAN change the RAM. So I guess I have to stick with R5 [addsig]

But are there any R6E28 firmwares that do have the 61MB? I remember on that firmware thead, some people were reporting 17MB at boot. I have more like the typical 14MB. Makes me wonder if these people have 61MB for some reason? It's quite confusing, really.

But bottom line, I heard that the memory management between the more RAM-demanding applications (Messaging, Web, Music) has improved. Apparently, they play better together on R6E28. I just upgraded to R6E yesterday night, so I haven't had any real-world experience yet... hopefully it'll prove to be true. I know that on R6D23 with a Chinese CDA, there were times when it became impossible to listen to music while using Web or Messaging. Quite upsetting, really, as I used to always listen to MP3s while browsing/checking emails on my old PalmOS PDA.

Really, I think on the P990i, if I could listen to MP3s, while checking my email/SMS and reading Esato at the same time, that would be great. But I'd even be happy to do two of those three at once.

1. Yes, wifi works in flight mode without a hitch even with R5A17. If you have a problem connecting, I suggest an update

2. Some have claimed that Fring works on R5A17, which has not been mentioned specifically by Fringland, but if you update then this issue would resolve itself

@rcxAsh

I'm on WG1 R6E28 and have 59mb of RAM. But I have up to 17.1 free RAM at startup. Strange.

@mode, that's weird indeed! I wonder what things affect the initial RAM usage. How do you check your RAM after boot-up?

I tried to boot up with as minimal of a configuration as possible just now:
- not connected to PC
- flight mode
- Bluetooth disabled
- WiFi disabled
- Default theme

After booting, I opened the main menu, selected tools, and opened Swiss Manager (non pro). And, the RAM free was reported to be 14.8MB.

The only open programs are listed as:
- Main menu
- Activity menu
- Phone
- Connections mgr
- SecurityApp

Performing a level 2 memory reclaim brought my free RAM to 16.0MB

Still not getting that one extra MB you're seeing! Interesting..
