The bugs left on this phone can be considered minor (though major to some (me included) who has certain expectations on certain features, ie. video focus, auto frequency, etc). If you're not a power user, you probably won't even notice them. As far as stability's concerned, it's very stable after the last fw update. Unless you like to run multiple apps simultaneously (4 is usually the limit for big apps while you can run around 10 small ones at a time), I sincerely think you'd be happy with what it's worth these days |

@Mode, even for power users I think the P990 is pretty stable. I find the phone very usable and if SE could just get rid of the few remaining bugs (eg. not being able to see the cursor in FC mode for "edit before call", put a "leave on server" option for emails and fix RDS to be at least like on the K750) I would be perfectly content.
I don't play a lot of games on P990 and just using it for professional purposes (including remote administration of a Windows 2000 server) I must say the P990 is more or less satisfactory.
Since I already have a P990, I don't care too much about the P1. I am however curious to see what the true P990 successor will have. Whether I like SE or not, there is still no real alternative to the P series.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

I truly agree, there isn't a better looking alternative out there, the P1 seems a little too utilitarian for me. I think in terms of style, the only unit that compares is the rumoured K1, which might be just a photoshop artist's wet dream and not ever actually exist.

I agree on the fact that the P990i is stable. Since the last upgrade I had not a single restart. The most I got from it were 4 days and a few hours and then I had to restart it myself cuz the browser kept crashing.

The storage wizard does not work and crashes at the end of step 1.

I confirm. Application:Storage Wizard, Reason Code:User, Reason number:9
Added: Just for the sake of it, I tested with the memory stick out and still got the same error.

I'm thinking about buying a P990i but all this talk about bugs make me undecided; is it really as bad as some tend to suggest? Does it restart every few hours to counteract the memory leaks?
I'm not a business user as such - if I'm going to buy it, I'll be buying it for the look and feel not the qwerty keyboard . . . and there's the temptation of the countless 3.2 MP phones that have come out recently. What should I do? A no nonsense 3.2MP K800i or the more versatile P990i with all it's imperfections?

Mine crashes too.I don't mind but it's still a bug!
@Maajid: it's very stable, I guess being so cheap these days it's worth it. Especially if you're not a heavy user.

thanks to everyone too, for sharing their experience with the phone, just got myself a p9 and loving it! its just a day old so cant really say if its stable but so far so good!
btw, just this morning our house had a leak and i had a case of bad luck and some drops of water hit my phone's screen, i immediately wiped it but i'm getting paranoid, will my phone be corrupted? it is working fine right now and it has a screen protector, should it be a cause of concern or i'm just paranoid? thanks in advance |

Hi there!
Don't worry. I have had my phone a year now and I have dropped it several times and spilled water on it. Never had a problem but a few scratches. Good luck witth your P. |

I brought my phone into the swimming pool with me for about 1 min before realizing it was in my back pocket. Brought it out, dried it and everything works as it should except for the camera which has never recovered. And I'm talking about a full minute immersed in water here so I'm sure you have absolutely nothing to worry about |

i dont know about the others, mine phone was very very stable before upgrading to this latest firmware, now after update it has become very lousy and slow even at typing sms or opening applications. I never ever encountered it like this ever since i purchased it 6 months back. Bear in mind that i have used atleast 4 different firmwares of P990i but this one is the worst, my personal opinion!
RAM spill is i think more in this firmware compared to any previous firmwares.
I advise is R6D is the best, dont upgrade to this new firmware! |

think I may have found a key to keeping my p990 running. It seems that 'connection Manager' might have more functionality than just logging data transfers, and that as long as the phone has this app running it keeps it from doing the silent crash thing. You know, when it looks like everything's fine but in actual fact it has lost it's phone functions.
At the moment I've got SMP doing cleanups when idle, with the connection manager NOT included in end all apps. I'm also doing a level 3 reclaim daily, and then restarting the connection manager afterward.
So far, I've only managed about 24hrs of uptime, but this has been due to auto restarts, which I find a whole lot less inconvienient than it crashing once a day! |
