I was just thinking, it'd be nice if there were different vibration alerts like there are ringtones.

I know the ring vibrate is different to the notification vibrate but to be able to select from a list of different vibration settings would be good so when on silent in a meeting I can tell if the vibrate is an email (probably can leave till later), text (probably the girlfriend), Google Talk IM (probably needs answering right away) or just a system message (e.g. battery life).

Is this an OS limitation or just no-one in the office thought of it or can be bothered to implement it?

I found an application which could change vibrate pattern some months ago & it was working great on X10. I didn't use it much, so don't know if there was so much customization as you wanted but still it could be useful for you if i would have remember the name of application

It's called Smart Vibrator, but it allows to change pattern only for SMS and calls (also for different contacts).

Hi Guys.

I'll be trading in my Black X10 for a White one next week and I was wondering what steps I have to go through to ensure my phone data is completely backed-up and ready for transfer.

My contacts have been backed up using the on line service from Sony Ericsson.

Media will be on the card so it will just be a matter of swapping the Micro SD.

What's the best way to back up my Apps and is there anything else I should know.

ASTRO has that functionality...backing up your installed applications.

Personally I use appbrain. Creat an account at http://www.appbrain.com, install the appbrain app from market, start the appbrain app and press sync to backup your apps. A nice thing with appbrain is that you also can manage your apps offline or why not push the apps to your phone (requires fast web to be installed as well).

Thanks guys - very helpful.

On a different note, I have just been speaking to colleague of mine who has just received Froyo on his Desire.

He told me his brother has an X10 and he received an email from Orange or O2_UK which told him SE are working hard in order to upgrade the OS on the X10 from Donut(1.6) straight to Froyo (2.2) in the not too distant future.

Can anyone else confirm this?

Thanks

se working hard should be enough confirmation to let you know that its not true.

To begin with...I don't even know how to take this seriously.

The "not too distant future" is obviously based on SE's sweet timescale...consider yourself lucky if this turns out to be 6 months or so.

Hello All,
woke up this morning, took my x10 to make a call and when i have selected the person from the list then chose call the phone freezes with black screen and blue on the edges and got no response from keys or touch screen or anything.
waited like 10 minutes and the phone still showing no signs to restore to standby.took out the battery for 5 minutes and worked fine.
any idea?
for the past 2 weeks or more i did not checked the market or downloaded any application.
thanks everyone in advanced.

i think goldenface is trying to confirm if anybody else got a similar email from Orange or O2_UK...corroboration is the good.

A straight to Froyo update would be nice, but only because it would be great to have flash support. Other than that, I'm happy with the previous timeline that was announced(?).

Very unlikely that this will get Froyo. SE have already stated that it will be 2.1 first, then probably 2.2 early next year.

I don't want to harp on about it, but as much as I love this phone, it really, really needs 2.1 quick. I really can't believe that SE launched this in the States with 1.6 on it, esp with the other competition around it now on 2.2. I mean a lot of people won't care, but then an awful lot will bypass this in the States because it's outdated and SE haven't confirmed a release date for 2.1.

Me too. I think Flash 10.1 support is really good.

WiFi hotspot is good although I have no use for it right now. I don't think HD recording will make me use the camera any more than I do already, although I would appreciate the improved quality.

Chrome to phone is also clever.

The Voice Action is quite good and looked like it would work well however, I'm a bit sceptical as to how it would work with people with strong accents, or do we all need to enter the commands trying to sound like Barack Obama

I need Froyo 2.2 on the X10 at the very least as Flash 10.1 would only work from this version but obviously SE is in no hurry getting this out...what a nice way to treat the customers!!

Interesting read about the multi-touch claim by SE with the US launch

Goldenface....can you imagine speaking to the damn machine that keeps throwing back at you with some sort of irrelevant garbage or "Please try again" like the Voice Dialler lol

^It does not say so anymore on sonystyle.com. Sony must have been already informed about it.
