Today, I bought a P990 for a mere $200 to replace my old P990 which got soaked in a pool and ended up being an M600 with flip and Wifi. All of its imaging functions have ceased to work, camera, video recording, video call, business card scanner. Amazingly enough, everything else worked flawlessly, but I just can't live without its wonderful camera and business card scanner so since P1 is yet to reach my shores, I got myself another P990. I did entertain the thought of a P1, but I know I would just miss the ease of single-handed operation via flip and 8gb storage capacity so here I am again with the my P990. And just when I thought I can be happy with hopes of a better phone through the next fw update, I got to know that the autofocus function in video recording still hasn't been restored and RDS still doesn't function. WTF???!!! |

Has anyone figured out how to resolve the bug with regards to INCOMING text messages.
If you set it to the correct time zone (EST in my case), your outgoing text messages display the correct time.
The incoming ones are still 4 hours behind.
I would trick my phone into being a timezone four hours ahead of EST which would be GMT (and then change the time MANUALLY) but after every restart, it reverts back to the correct time in that time zone (GMT time).
Any help would be appreciated. |

@chrisnewman, if your only choice is between the P990 and the N95, I would pick the N95. There will be no more support from SE for the P990 and even if there was it seems far beyond SE's capability to correct the bugs in the P990. Nokia on the other hand has a much better reputation for supporting their products on a longer term. The build quality of the P990 is much better than the N95 though, so it's not an easy decision...
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

Right.
And if you should go for the N95, I'd suggest you to read my posts here before buying it:

I'm listening to the radio right now but a message popped up on the screen saying:
Interactive: Update successful!
What was that about?

solja786, if you want to update your firmware/changing cda, I suggest that you do it via laptop rather than pc unless you're using some sort of battery backup/UPS. In case of blackout, if the firmware is not already finished downloading, it will not harm your phone, but if the firmware is already fully downloaded, the uploading process to your phone will be taken over by battery. That means, if you're using pc and not having some sort of UPS when the blackout occured, you can damage your phone while the firmware is uploading to the phone. |

IMO your decision should be based on the actual usage of the phone. You shouldnt bother about bugs on P990 because those are practically gone with the latest fw. Also if SE cant give more RAM on startup or fix memory leak problem then the next fw i.e. further suport is not needed.
So if you need a business smartphone with various text input etc. N95 would be a wrong choice. If you need a multimedia smartphone N95 would be a better choice and if you need both at the same time P990 would be for you.
