Why does everyone crave wireless charging so much? Is it because of the novelty? New tech?
Because it's just as easy to rest your phone in the charging dock without having to connect a charger.
I think the way the Z, V & Acro S all have the exterior charging connectors is more than good enough!
How lazy are we getting?
I don't get this wireless charging business either. Sure it is handy but my phone doubles as a bedside TV / clock radio so I'd prefer to drop my phone into a charging cradle with external connectors like the Acro S.

At least not from Sony. It seems they trying to follow Apple's pricins strategy, which personally I don't really like
For middle class people ,there is always midrange phones, for upper class there is always Z Phones.
In price tag there haven't been ever a phone as expensive as Xperia Z from Sony (Ericsson). And midrange or low-end phones are also priced quite high. For example the Xperia miro has the same price as the more capable just few months prior Xperia U, and the low-end Xperia E is just few bucks cheaper. And the Xperia J which is positioned clearly below the Xperia U is more expensive than U and also gets Jelly Bean -I think it's more preferred by Sony, because it's "more Sony", and not has the SE logo.
These are facts, and (not only) these are indicating that Sony's smartphones price/value ratio is increasing quite well.
I think Xperia phones should be recognized for it's owns performances, not just by saying that it has the best of the Sony, while the experiences not clearly justify this. And not trying to build a brand like Apple's Iphone, where the phone is reliable but not this is interesting, because the Iphone itself stands as status symbol, and it says: Look, I have an expensive or the most expensive phone, I don't really care about it's features, the Apple is on it's back, and it states that I'm cool and I have a lot af money.
Sadly in my point of view Sony is trying to achieve exactly this. To achieve that customers to be proud of their phone only because it's Sony (and a Sony product must be expensive), even if it doesn't make as perfect photos as have been stated, even if it's screen underferforms the previous models. I think this philosophy is completely the opposite of SE's in it's glory days, when K750 offered more than the competition, for a much competitive price, with one of the best price/value ratios. In 2005 that was a "Z phone", I had it in 2005 august, and it worth it's price. |

For me, it's lots of reasons. I don't like the pogopins disturbing the look of the device. I don't want to buy a dock to then have to buy another dock for my next phone (I could just re-use a charging pad). I'd like to be able to let a friend use the charging pad if they need, even if they own a different phone. I'd like to have the device in a case and not worry about whether it fits in the dock, or needs a gap to expose the charging pins.
Plus, it's just a logical next step. Sony have worked hard on NFC enabled speakers that will stream bluetooth or wifi. Why can't I just put my phone on top of it to charge, like this one.
I really want a proper universal wireless charging standard. Just think about it. You could build it into tables at restaurants. Into bedside cabinets in hotels. Into car mounts, or into the storage between the seats. Sure, you could do it with USB but it's messy and unrefined. |

Thanks but that links to the user interface used in the Xperia S using Android 2.3 and/or 4.0. There is a slightly different one used from the Xperia Z onwards... ?
