These stats are quite amazing really. I mean considering that Nokia pulled out from CDMA (Telecom) a few years back and that most people would have upgraded by now (I guess?) they would be on a Samsung or Sanyo through Telecom. It must show that as Nokia and Motorola were here from the first day of Mobiles in NZ, people developed their brand loyalty (unknown to them or not) and wont change. Im actually not surprised at the SE% though. I recall Telecom selling the T60 (Spoon shaped thing) that had a fail rate near 20% and they soon dropped SE. Im thinking the introduction of a second GSM provider will curb all this dramatically. Could be wrong tho!

3G reception is down in my area today, so I'm surfing at GPRS speed Just got off the phone with Vodafone Customer Services, they're looking into it.

Well Vodafone still haven't replied to my email, even though I requested one. Its been almost a month, so I just sent them a (far too friendly) reminder. I feel as though I should stay nice until their reply, and then decide on whether I should get nasty or not!

Well it seems to be fluctuating a bit today. After turning the V640i off and removing the battery for a few minutes, I did eventally get a 3G signal back but in the three tests I've done this morning the download speed was 120kbps, 650kbps then 1163kbps just a few minutes ago.

Could the V640i be faulty again? Its looking that way, but I find it interesting that the Speedtest program prefererred the Wellington server yesterday and the Auckland server today...

Hmm yeah that seems a bit weird... You need another phone to test it against in my opinion. Anyone you know with an HSDPA phone?

Yeah, there was a big load of crap story about it on Campbell Live tonight. They pretty much just showed how much they don't know about technology and left it at that.

Will you be there to pick yourself up a 3G iPhone at launch, carkitter? If you got a mini-review up on Esato quickly, you'd be one of the first in the world!

Ah, just read your posts in the 3G iPhone thread.

I'll look forward to seeing those pictures. The 3G iPhone ain't for me though. I think I might get me a C702.

I have considered an attempt at 'World's first iPhone review'.
It depends on what the plans look like tomorrow.

Seriously considering a C702 myself ATM. Not totally convinced by the photo quality I've seen though.

Haha, I think you could pull it off. Stick it up on Esato to show that us New Zealanders occasionally do get something before everybody else!

I think the C702's image quality is decent enough. Hey if it beats the quality I'm used to with the 2MP phone cameras I've had, then I'm happy! Just waiting for the price to go down a little on Plemix...

Vodafone's new iPhone plans have been released:
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/iphone/plans.jsp#expander5
The plans are much better value than the hideously expensive You Choose Core plans are, but to get a decent amount of data one has to spend alot more than the usual $39.95 most On Account customers are used to. A 16GB iPhone on the 1GB plan will set you back $6349 over the 2 year term and half that term will be conducted under the knowledge that you don't have the latest model which will probably arrive this time next year. Hmmm... Also,no unlimited data is available.
Vodafone are making the iPhone available without a plan ($979 8GB, $1129 16GB), but it's locked to an On-Account SIM card. Naively, they allow activation via iTunes so in no time flat Ziphone version 2 (expected soon) will be able to bypass this for use on Prepay and Telecom's / NZ Communication's respective GSM networks.

Also released but missed amongst the hype are new You Choose 'Base' Plans which include both anytime and off-peak minutes and a small amount of txts for a very sharp price. The catch is that add-ons like Best Mate and Family are not available.
http://www.vodafone.co.nz/plans/on-account/base-plans.jsp

Data charges have not changed. Very disappointed on this front.

In fact, with Vodafones new casual data rates, data just got more expensive if you use it frequently, and alot more expensive if you just want to check emails everyday.

ha!!!$6000 for an iphone!!!no thanks.even the lowest rate is quite alot over two years.i think i'll just stick with my 8GB G900 for now.thank god i'm not caught up in the "i" frenzy apple have created.so maybe SE's 3% nz market share is about to get even lower!!

Ok well thats rather disappointing. Crap in fact. And I see even the full retail iPhones are ridiculously high in price, just like all the phones Vodafone sells. Pretty stupid in my opinion. They'd make more money if it was cheaper and on prepay!

I think iPod Touchs are in for a big sales boost! Especially if shops are smart enough to market them as an iPhone at half the price without the mediocre phone.

And the lack of cheap data just killed any plans I had of buying a smart phone (cause that would be my main reason to do so). I think I'll stick to my feature phones (C702 seems very likely) until Vodafone gets their sh*t sorted. Really disappointing.
