Ordered the black one... Just 400 euro (Vodafone), must be a mistake but once you've ordered, they can't go back...

Thanks rog!
Some years ago here on esato there was an argument as to which Os was better between S60 and UIQ. There was never a clear winner since it ended up being a Nokia vs SE but it is very interesting that S60 v5 is holding back SE on this phone.

A real shame as UIQ came up with a UI that is what the Iphone is today before its demise, that UI was so far ahead of its time it begs the question why in the world did SE succumb and give up on UIQ. Palm was in a similar situation but revamped their Os and look at them today.

This Symbian foundation thing is in trouble, big trouble!

Stupid, incompetent and passive SE! They had a good Os and threw it away.

Image quality is improved over C905 i must say. but still falls short over pixon12 (sigh) recent Satio videos show its user interface running very smooth. thats one plus point. but i still doubt it as a formidable gaming device like what SE people were trying to say.

@Dups: Imho, Symbian foundation is full of hype, Upon reading Eldar's N900 review, i found out that Nokia seems to be loosing its interest in the foundation and it is just being motivated by driving force of other members. I hope SE gave up investing on that platform and focus instead on android and WM. I have a feeling that even Symbian^2 will soon die just before it arrives especially that Nokia is starting to replace Symbian with linux for their high end devices which is a good move imo. killing the more touchscreen oriented UIQ and its future in exchange of the S60 5Th is the worst move for Symbian ever. Many people deliberately defend their beloved S60 because its going to be the baseline platform for the new Symbian^2 and will retain compatibility until Symbian Foundation announced that it wont, I just can't stop laughing at them. according to eldar N97 will be the last S60 phone from them. so does OmniaHD and perhaps Satio. after that S60 is history.

I wouldn't say falls short, Pixon 12 is better but not by that much. Pixon 12 photos feels more alive compared to Satio photos, which looks kind of dull.

@tyko, I may become a little exagerrated with that. but still pixon12 image quality is better in terms of overall details and edge-to-edge sharpness. i find the colours in pixon12 a little oversaturated and Satio has more natural colours imo.

I thought that Satio is going to be an ultimate smartphone but after I read what you have written I have second thoughts.

I still use my P1i and want to replace that. Satio seemed the I wanted

I read that review a few days ago and from what i remember Eldar said N97 is their last S60 FLAGSHIP, not last S60. theres absolutely no way they would just drop it, and NO s60 wont be dead, have you some how forgotten the E72, E52, E55, 5630xm, 5730xm, 5530xm and other upcoming mid-range S60 devices? These are the phones that sell in millions, what has actualy put S60 where it is today IMO.

@GUCCI

I went and reread that article and indeed Nokia are dumping Symbian according to Eldar.

He further states that Samsung are also going to move away somewhat and only SE will be left as the major player in bringing out Symbian phones.

If true it's beginning to look a lot like UIQ where SE was the lone ranger until Motorola came on board.

Stupid SE!

Dups!
Im aware of that, but my point is the N97 is not the final S60,but the final S60 FLAGSHIP from NOKIA, or am i wrong? As for NOKIA slowly leaving symbian im aware of that, but its not like they're dropping it suddenly, you guys are making it sound so dramatic, NOKIA are still going to have quite a few S60 mid-rangers for the next year before completely dropping Symbian. As Eldar said in a previous article: the flagships are going to be Linux Maemo based and symbian will slip into their mid-range.

I agree that there are a few S60 phones coming but I fail to understand why you say we're being dramatic considering that they (Nokia) bought the whole of Symbian shares and now they are basically turning their back on the Os.

It doesn't get anymore dramatic than that.

I've been following this thread for quite some time now and I have decided to finally express my mixed feelings about this phone.

About having HD playback in this (OR IN ANY OTHER PHONE): it's completely useless and hopeless having it in a mobile device, unless it has an HDMI output so you can plug it to your TV set!! Why have HD (1080 or 720 lines) when your device display is only capable of displaying 350 of those? It's more of a gimmick than anything else. That's only to impress your friends, if they would be impressed by it at all. HD videos are meant to be displayed on large screens. That's it.

About having HD recording capabilities, it has already been pointed out that the only phone capable of that (to the date), the Omnia HD, suffers to deliver those promised 24fps. I tested it and it's also a little bit useless. I'd prefer they had improved the standard VGA recording and sound capturing quality instead of doing that. So you cannot blame SE if the Satio doesn't have it. But you surely can do that if the VGA recording is not on par with its contenders'.

As far as my experience tells, the resistive touchscreen that's been seen previously on the 5800 xpress music isn't that good compared to the capacitive one found on the Iphone. In fact, sometimes it's annoying. And the Symbian 5th Edition OS doesn't feel much better than the 3rd edition at all. It's more like an improvisation over it than a major step ahead. If Satio employs a fairly similar screen and OS, it can't be said to be much of an excitement.

The lack of a 3.5mm jack is also a drawback. That SE proprietary connector is awkward and it starts to behave strangely after some time of use. It's even completely wrongly placed within the phone. It should be a 3.5mm jack placed at the top of it, just as most Nokia phones. SE insists in doing this stupid proprietary things, and even after having to surrender to the microSD standard, it doesn't abandon this terrible connector. It doesn't stay firmly attached to the phone. It's easily detachable from it when it's inside your pocket, for instance, and it keep getting loose with time and use.

I can't believe some of you guys when you say you're sold after seeing some of its camera samples. They are terribly noisy, awful ones!! I am completely disappointed with them! Unless those were some really really pre-production units and SE have developed them from that poor stage to perfection before the final release, those 4.1 more MPixels don't add anything worth of paying those 5 hundred and something pounds for it. It's such a shame. And the question about having or not the EXMOR sensor... I don't care whether it has it or not. I only care about quality. If it's good but doesn't have the EXMOR sensor, that's fine with me. I can live with the idea that it could have been even better, but they decided to leave it just good. But if it does have the hyped EXMOR sensor and even though it takes those horrible pictures, than it will surely piss me off. My N82 can manage to deliver accurate colors and awesome night shots. I really don't think those Satio shots can be considered much better than mine would be in the same situation, and I am pretty sure that the Omnia HD and the Pixon12 would smash it down.

The only thing that attracts me about this Satio now is the fact that even though the Symbian 5th Ed doesn't please me that much, it has the advantage of having many apps to play with. The vast availability of GPS apps, in particular, is quite an advantage of the Symbian OS, in fact. I only hope that the poor visibility of its display won't spoil my fun, though.
