You say "might help", Cytech. Is R4A considered to be much better than R3B in other ways? Is there any clear difference? Writing the SMS always work, but as I said when I push Yes to enter the numer of the receiver the phone will occationally reboot. Annoying when you have written a long and complicated SMS. Other problems I have had are
- that 90% of the calendar entries on two occations have disappeared completely, then to reappear a couple of weeks later.
- All phone book entries disappeared so I had to copy them from SIM anew. And then I have to manually change all numbers from "home" to "mobile". I know about the "cut-and-paste", but why does not the phone automatically asume that all new numbers are mobile phones?
- Sometimes new calendar entries doesn't show when I "view date", only in "view week".

R4A is not the ulimate firmware... it still contain bugs... so it's not a guarantee you will get rid of your reboots...
about your problem number 2... not anything special about this... it's like that on newer phones as well...

Hello All
I use R4A and I have no problem with that. U better get R4A man.Only thing I hate bout the R520 is the speed of T9, TOO SLOW !! In the T300 it is much faster, otherwise I still love my copper R520 with black buttons. I have it on display now

Give me an advice Please. I got mine P800 a couple of weeks ago and have since 1½ year back a R520 and it looks like new. The P800 is to big to bring with me sometimes and even the R520 can be quite big sometimes so I was thinking of selling it to a guy for 30$ + he´s SE T200 just one mounth old. Am I stupid if I accept he´s deal? Please just tell how stupid I am:-)

Excuse me, Are you selling your p800 or r520? Yes, you can have a smaller phone besides the p800, but size does not matter much for me. It´s up to your need.

I'm going maybe to sell the R520 but I don't know if I'm doing right because it's such great phone and I think I can never get one again if I miss it.

It can be sold when you - 1) Have alreay a P800 in hand. Yes, you do. 2) It does not a memory for you. 3) Need money. ...- I will not sell it as it is still the most preferable phone for me. It will follow me for some years more.

Hello, everyone. I recently bought an Ericsson R520m (this is my first time in this forum) and I would like to say that I am a little bit disappointed with the phone. I really thought a lot before buying this and decided for R520 because it apparently was the best buy. It has a smashing design, sexy look, it is not too small (I like the fact that R520 is long but thin and light), it has a good amount of features and the best price for all that, but... It just doesn’t work properly. The voice memo feature (a feature that I (would) use a lot) crashes the phone completely EVERY time I try to use it. Just like a PC. I have to take off the battery in order to R520 work again; has someone experienced this problem? The "motion snooze" switches off itself after a few seconds without any motion. Motion snooze was one of the reasons I decided to buy a R520 and not a T39. I use "snooze" many times every morning, but I can't "motion-snooze me" as Ericsson says. The ring tones are low, my old Motorola has ring tones much more audible. The vibracall is weak, almost unnoticeable. The keys do not respond very well, I often have to press a key more than once. The GPRS is slow, I didn't notice a big increase in the speed; of course, this could be a deficiency of my network/phone company.
The good things are that the phone looks great, I got impressed the first time I saw R520 because it looks "strong", made with good material, looks like it won't break when falls in the floor (T39 seemed to me very fragile), I don't have any complaints about the reception, the display is big and nice (sure, it is “cowardliness” to compare it to the color displays, but is a nice gray display), the battery runs much less than Ericsson says (300h) but is fine to me and the motion speakerphone really works.
But the worse is yet to come: I thought that a firmware update could solve some problems (I have R2K), but because I imported the phone and it is not made nor sold in my country, Brazil, Ericsson said that they haven't the "expertise" to do the update; I thought that a firmware update would be a simple thing, using a software and a cable. So... I am writing this to ask for some help. First: I've read somewhere that the T39 and R520 use the same firmware; but it is exactly the same? Can I update a R520 with the T39 update (T39 is sold here in Brazil)? Did someone of you do that? What about the differences like, "motion snooze", speakerphone and some other feature that R520 has and T39 hasn't? And second: If I could not do that, how can I update it myself, throw the Internet? Where I find the update to download? How I do the update (in lay terms, please)?
I've never had a Nokia, only Motorola, but I haven't seen people complaining so much about Nokia phones. Here in this forum I've read A LOT of complaints about Ericsson R520, so it seems that is not a question of “bad luck”. I think that a company that has quality as it first concern should not rush to release products with so many bugs.
I intend to keep my R520 if I can solve some problems, because it looks good and has good reception, so, I would appreciate any help in solving bugs and in how to update. Thank you very much. Ricardo.

hm... sounds like u got yourself a very sour lemon... the R520m is one of the very few Ericssons that works relatively flawlessly... bugs are known... it's known in any mobile phone... and yes it's more apparent in Ericssons.. but i can tell you the R520m is awesome... it's crashed on me just once... and i use a prototype unit too hehe... w/ the same firmware as your unit
Mobile handset(s): 1. PROTOTYPE TU2 Ericsson R520m CE. (Made: 00W43). 2. Rose White T39mc. (Flashed to T39m). 3. Icy Blue Sony Ericsson T200. (Water-damage revival!). |
