I don't understand why the P 990 has so many problems. I have a M600i and I keep congratulating myself for buying this one instead on the P 990i. 3 weeks ago when I bought the M600i, no P 990 was available. Damn, they have the same OS, the same hardware, why so many problems with the P 990i while my M600i crashed only once and has some minor bugs ( e.g when receiving a pic thru BT, I can't see it, I have to edit it first, then save it).

From my own point of view (and as a TyTN owner and former M600i owner) I don't think the P990i does have too many major problems right now. The last firmware update fixed most of the major stuff. There are of course still memory management issues, but the M600i does suffer from these too - the difference is that due to the M600i being a less complex device with only one mode of use, no camera and no wifi it has more RAM at startup than the P990i meaning its own RAM issues are less noticeable.
To be completely honest (and despite my TyTN being fine) I am actually more concerned by HTC's apparent production QC problems (screen alignment, dodgy keyboards, and weak slide mechansims) than the P990i software issues.
At least the software issues are easier to fix. |

that's what insurance is for
I sent back my tytn that had a few 'hard to press keys' and now I got back a device that is has no issues
to be fair it's not the p990 hardware that is screwing it, it's uiq3, they should've stuck to uiq2 until they got a decent os, they could've just updated the eye candy.

well, my luck didn't last. went out in the sun today and pushed the new tytn's camera app - it failed. tytn owners, take a few pics on the 2mp setting on a sunny day with plenty on detail ie not just sea and sky, all 3 of my tytns have crashed 6 times out of 10 needing a restart to open the camera app again.

@matt69
I assume you are using the ROM that is shipped on the device yer???
I noticed crashes and the like with the original ROM....flashed to the imate version (with the HTC ext rom) and now solid as a rock. HTC ARE releasing an update ROM some time this month (september) which SHOULD address many problems with the current ROM versions.
Emailing HTC about a month ago i got the impression the support team (im europe) was kinda fed up with the eastern side of the company for the delay in addressing the problems (currently) with the TyTN.
I would try giving the unit a go with a different ROM first sir...recommended. |

.... But remember when flashing to different roms, you cannot revert back.
ie Voda 1605 to XYX Rom back to Voda 1605.
And you invalidate your waranty.
From reading these forums, it seems like a lot of people have had afew tntys exchanged.
Also, i can say the imate rom is the best one i prefered. Other than the screen alignment issue i had on my first voda 1605, it ran very smoothly with the imate firmware. However, i do not have any plan to update the firmware on my current tytn.

what turns me off about the TyTN is how thick it is and the 64k screen.

it saddens me deeply to see the loyalties of so called sonyericsson fans...1 unstable phone, namely the p990i & people start jumping on to the htc bandwagon...if htc is bigger than sonyericsson then i wonder what all u htc afficionados are doin' here on esato which is a pre-dominantly sonyericsson forum???
as for nokia's market shares...nokia makes easy phones...easy to buy & easy to comprehend...in simpler words cheap phones for dummies.

yeah, the tytn is thick on the size department.... been using p9xx series all along this while. Patience is sometimes to be exercise when i encounter problems, when new firmware updates available....all solved, nice and dandy. |

Is a bit funny to see people arguing which is better/more stable, TyTN or the P990i. It might just be - the S60 trio N70, N73, N91 are the true winners. Did you know - Nokia is the biggest camera manufacturer ! ? ! It is said, one of the Kodak directors dyed his hair black on hearing the sad news earlier this year. On another note - while Sony had to dismiss 1000's of workers at the begin of this year, Nokia has the best compact/solid state handycam on the market and is very small indeed ! Now they have plans for a hidef handycam in 2007 ! Exiting times I would say :D

not to kill your comment but look at the title dude, it says p990 v tytn if you want to add a nokia phone in there feel free to start a new topic
as to the perfect phone it doesn't exist, all phones have issues deal with it, it all boils down to the phones functionality / price / edge over competition/ personal interest.

I have read that many people owning the HTC tytn are having the screen alignment problem. Is this a hardware or a software problem???
If it is a hardware problem, maybe that could be the reason why this phone is out of stock nearly everywhere! Maybe HTC are busy trying to fix this problem before releasing anymore units perhaps? What are your opinions?
Spoke to T-mobile today and they said that they will be out of stock until 2nd week of october. Expansys have also been out of stock for a long time too.

They may also be out of stock due to high demand. I know a lot of people who have got the TyTN (or variant) solely due to word of mouth. Mine is arriving on Wednesday after a more than 4 week wait courtesy of Orange. There does seem to be some uniformed comment in this thread. This is not like being loyal to your local (or not so local) football team! People want the best for their needs and the money they spend. This used to be the P9xx which is one of the reasons why many of us are here. With the emergence of the P990 the decision isn't as clear cut as it used to be, hence this thread. As it has been stated it's UIQ3 that made me try WM5 in the form of the TyTN, I like to use lots of apps and do not want to be badly limited by the OS.
