Yeah, read the 421 page....
this problem seems to be "normal"

Can anyone who is on a Vodafone W800 please tell me what firmware they have? Is it R1AA or R1BC?

Thanks

Finally I managed to update as Orange seems to have approved R1CA021. Of course the updater stuck at the last green line forever, but I just simply unplugged the phone from DCU 60 and so far everything seems OK. It's true that the first time I powered up the phone it acted up a bit - it would not recognize the earphones - but I turned it off and on again and the problem disappeared. Aside from all the enhancements already mentioned, I noticed that the annoying crackling ("static") sound that appeared every once in a while between mp3s has disappeared.

I just tried Davinci to update my w800. I have to say it's some good piece of software. No problems. I've debranded to R1BC002 (updating the firmware also debrands the phone.) I think the hissing issue and sound quality issues are still there though. Phone call quality has improved.

However, the audio things I complain about could be just because I'm some sort of an audiophile.

Still there sometimes. I find it helps to format the memory stick when loading new albums but remember to backup your media data.

@ O2 K750I: You're right, I just noticed that the noise is still appearing, although less often.

Hi

I upgraded my Orange U.K. K750I from R1AA008 to R1CA021.

The new firmware has made the menus a lot quicker, Taking a picture is also quicker & the phone does respond faster to button presses round the menu system.

Also seeing how much free memory is left is far easier now its displayed in MB instead of KB lol.

But it does bring a new bug!

When sending a text message instead of the nice scrolling progress bar I used to get, Now its just a solid black bar.

Looks like Sony Ericsson need to tweak the firmware a bit more lol.

Try re-applying your current theme, or try a different one. This happens to progress bars sometimes during phone upgrades.

From what I have seen so far, the 'static' on the phonecalls is gone, but the static that was audible when starting/stoping the radio or media player is still there. Also, the autofocus "motor" sound is now really audible, with the AA all I could hear was the beeping. Battery life doesn't seem affected. And the lag between clicking on the shutter button and the actual photo taken is really really annoying. Haven't tested BT yet.

Had the same problem as Calleboo describes since AA, no theme change or upgrade fixed it, LOL I have accepted is as "normal" now.

No joy for me on Voda UK (still stuck on R1AA) on each of two handsets:

102338/2 R32A VFE_2
102338/68 R4A EUROPE_2

What CDAs do those Voda UK users who successfully upgraded have?

Cheers

As I see it there are three quite separate but possibly confused issues with mp3 sound quality on the firmware I am currently stuck with on my O2 W800i (R1AA008):

  1. Constant low-level hiss when the headphone output is enabled
  2. Additional "fizzing" crackle during fade-in/fade-out and quiet passages on songs
  3. Occasional clunks (like the headphone amplifier's being turned off and on) in the silence between songs

(1) I suspect is unavoidable and because of poor quality audio components. (2) I understand is the bug introduced when SE fixed a distortion problem. (3) especially seems to happen if the skip functions have been used but this is not certain. (1) and (2) in particular are only really noticeable with the supplied headphones, and not with hi-fi etc.

There seems to be some confusion over what hisses, pops and crackles are and are not present/resolved in the more recent firmwares, so perhaps breaking the problems down into these specific categories might help.

Can anyone then confirm which, if any, of the above numbered issues are fixed in R1BC002 or later?

Hi all again,

I have a question for you people who use DaVinci credits to update your phone firmware ..

Regarding SE W800i , does DaVinci have the new firmware R1CA021 for it ??? or only the R1BC002 ?????

Cause if DaVinci got the new F/W R1CA021, it means SEUS will release it as well sooner .. but if DaVinci only have R1CA021 for K750i .. it means SEUS will NOT release anything for W800i ..

Or maybe i am wrong ??

Yeach.. I guess R1CA021 will never be released for W800i...What's the deal then since R1CA021 only improves the camera driver to 5.3...it's a must for K750 as an imaging phone but it's not for a Walkman phone...W800 has already gotten its successor : W810...so, everything you want is in the new phone. R1CA021 is also the final firmware for K750 as K800 will be announced in the end of June...Or Am I mistaken?
