You cound tell her that the radio emissions from smartphones are much higher than regular phones, and so the risk of cancer is greater. That should do the trick.

Hallo everyone, I can see its one of those quiet weekends.

MTEL GPRS just came back after 5 days...I hear the problem is from the NITEL ISP which is using SAT3. Now I am scared of going for the Rosecom ADSL service since they too use NITEL/SAT3.

@brym: Don't be fooled by the numbers. Activity on PNF has been slow the last couple of months, it might be some issues with free gprs on various networks.
I still browse PNF for the sake of Pan Africanism and my general interest in Nigeria as an emerging player on the world scene.

@coola: I can only comment on the issue of the DStv ban. It's simple if you choose practise capitalism you can't change the rules to comfortably suite you when you find it convenient.
In all other countries sports rights are bought on the basis of them being exclusive...because there's hardly any pay-tv operators in Africa it mad perfect sense that DStv bought exclusive rights for the continent...if ppl object to this there are courts of law to challenge the current regime.
I'm not arguing the fact that DStv is a monopoly, even in SA it's a monopoly but pulling stunts like the NBC won't help to attract investors to the sector.

Abu,sorry to draw you back to the mtel issue.I use a prepaid mtel line but mtel Customer Care tells me that gprs is only available on postpaid and they suggest that I convert my line to postpaid if I want gprs.I want be sure that it is really available and free before I take the step.

@brix, seems u don't know d effect d Eng Prmr leag.has on nigerians. Its d only reason why many peeps subscribe 4 dstv. All other local cable or sat tv companies are dead. Since Dstv has rights to africa they should share such, but no they wont.
there is a God and he's got mad love for me!!!

@2tek: If you spent all your savings buying a house do you expect squatters to move in when they've been living irresponsibly all their lives and not saving? I'm sorry for English Premiership fans in Naija. It doesn't make sense for the NBC to come up with it's ruling this late in the process- quite suspicious.
In the same breath, DStv could sell some of the rights to Nigerian broadcasters-question is would they want to pay?

I think the NBC is just saying "we refuse anyone buying the rights for the whole of Africa" .... "we want it to be bought over Nigeria as a seperate entity AND Nigerian companies be given a fair chance".

NBC has its problems, but I think they will get much support here. Our local DTH players must be encouraged.

@coola: If DStv had to buy the rights for all the African countries in which they operate then the rights to something like the EPL would be more expensive. As things stand they would still be able to buy these rights as there aren't many rival broadcasters in Africa willing to fork out millions for the right to broadcast top-shelf football.

Quite the contrary, this is one of the few issues where I agree with the regulating authorities. Multichoice has refused to allow any other operator within Nigeria access to the EPL, cost here is not an issue. I have privy information on how FSTv offered MCN 50% on subscription accruing from viewers watching the EPL on FSTv, and it was turned down.
There has to be competition for any industry to grow, and I wholeheartedly welcome this decision. DSTv Nigeria, I can say charges the highest tarrif in the Pay per view industry worldwide.

@Brym: welcome back, I'm sure you know you are one of the causes of low posts on PNF. Howz madam?
