Heh actually it's not a real SE Service center, hence my question...It's definitely worth a try, in any other case I might just borrow a data cable and do it on my own...Was just watching the Video DaVince manual...Hm, seems my firmware is not part of the ones available for the K700 (R2AE_EU_1_C)...Got English, Greek, Automatic and Shqip as available languages, am I missing something here, the EU1 listed in the tutorial does not support, greek, or does it?

Is this one below giving any hints?

Customisation
CDA102286/ 10 R7A
cxc125822 R2AE033
EMEA_3

[begin edit]

my bad, just noticed that EMEA_3 lists EN EL SQ, so that must be it...I'm just not used reffering to GReek as HELlenic nowadays, but seems like there's a trend towards it..which I'm ok with

Do not worry. You can download all languages from the server, EMEA_3 included. It's just that they use EU_1 in the guide.

Do you mean that one can finally assign a .mid for sms tone? Because the 5-6 different default ones have been there since R2L AFAIK...

You can't actually assign one, but with DaVinci, you can overwrite the message tone files on the phone with your own ones, if this makes sense! So it's not a firmware option, just replacing the files on the phone. [addsig]

Exactly, you change the original ones for 6 new ones, or change just one. And they have to be in the Midi format. The files in the phone are simply replaced with the ones you choose in DaVinci. You don't get an option in the phone to be able to change it.

Hi..

I tried to upgrade the firmware of k700i from SE website.
Finally I can go a bit further than before.
All synchronise and green on the phone monitor.
After accepting the policy, it will coming up the update service 1.43.
Then I've got this error:
"Your device is not permitted to use this service
Your operator has not approved the usage of this service for this device.
We look forward to assisting you again soon.
Thank you for using the Sony Ericsson Update Service! "

Do you know what is that mean?

I already tried to use Virgin and Optus simcard but both still receiving the same error message.

I also tried to update service from different country but still got the same result.

Did I miss something or have you experience it before?

Based on the knowledge base, I only can perform the update from the service centre but I bought the phone from overseas therefore the warranty not cover it unless I paid for it but I bought dss25 already so I dont want to spend more money.

Could you please help?

Thank you.

Note: My phone is unbranded. R2a041. prgCXC125882_hong_kong_c

Your phone is being rejected by the update service as the operator specific CDA you have has not approved the phone for SEUS.

Because the platform sends bogus messages while charging, that is why!!!..But why this change of heart?..We sense a charger connected, oops, we will not shut down after all!!!..*********************** UI BASIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES

so...what should I do to update firmware?

Any solution?

Are you saying if I bought the phone from Singapore, then I need to use Singapore sim card and go to singapore SE website to update the firmware?

@insi

Changing the sim card doesn't change the branding of your phone. If your phone's branding doesn't allow the use of SEUS, you can't simply use SEUS. It's as simple as this. BTW, the SEUS sites are basically the same globally; they are only different in language localisations.

Since I had my firmware upgraded to R2AT003 a few days ago using davinci, I just noticed that the transfer of files through bluetooth is alot faster. With firmware as recent as R2AE033 I was getting around 23KBps when transfering mp3's to my K700, now I am getting 49.8KBps. Although when I copy from the phone I still get 23KBps. I dont know if anybody else has noticed this.

@Sebby
Thanks - i've added your scores to the first post.

I would also be very interested to see if anyone else using R2AT can repicate ccbro's Bluetooth performance. I have certainly never seen BT transfer speeds higher than around 25KBps in any previous firmware revision, but I don't have R2AT to test with.

One question regarding the data cables available on the market for the K700. I see lot's on eBay, will any of them do for upgrading the firmware or does it need to satisfy certain requirements / standards that probably means I need to get a SE branded one?

cheers

This has to be the most asked question in this forum...

...and no... they wont work... You need one of the desk stands DSS-25 or the DSS-20...

got a k500 . when i make a call .. it says calling XXXXXXX then it turns into Connecting XXXXXXX and after a few seconds the call is connected .

But my bro got J200i ... it does slightly different . it says calling XXXXXXX.. and when the phone being called starts ringing .. it says connecting XXXXXXX .. which is a very gud feature that is available on every other mobile phone . even the cheaper LG and DBTel phones . when the call is connected it says ringing .... or some even show an ringing phone icon ...

Why does SE phone miss that feature ... and If calling -> Connecting is the alternative to that .. Why it doesnt work the way its supposed to .. I have also checked a friends K700 and it also had that bug.

Firmware on k500: r2ae033
