• "wap" apn (the free apn) doesn't work anymore. Use the "minternet" apn. Internet mode = http, not wap. Proxy not needed, and I.P. address should be left blank. If you still can't connect, your account may have been blocked. As discussed before in this thread, this often happens when you use gprs on a prepaid sim with zero balance.

• EDGE, an improved form of GPRS (2.5G), is currently not yet offered by Sun or any of the local telecom companies. Although 6630 is EDGE-capable, it will utilize GPRS (the Nokia site says "EGPRS") at speeds that are network-dependent.

I don't know if the 6630 switches automatically from WCDMA to GPRS (for data) but if it doesn't, choose GPRS.

Thanks for the reply. I have settings for both Sun GPRS and SUN Internet. Whatever setting and apn I used, whether wap or minternet, when I try to connect, it says "unable to connect, check connection settings." I don't have this error when I use my smart or globe sim to connect. It may be because my sun sim is blocked or deactivated. Should I now call SUN CS about this? I'm afraid that they'll just answer me, "Ma'm, our GPRS does not yet support nokia 6630 because it is a new handset" or something like that.

You'll only get variations of these "official lines" from Sun CSRs:

• GPRS is on testing stage, hence it's unstable.

• You can only use GPRS for MMS, not for wap browsing. We don't have wap.

Don't even bother mentioning your phone model. As far as they're concerned, gprs is expected to NOT WORK on ANY phone. Or at least not consistently. If you insist that you can wap, they'll talk to you in a manner that suggests you're lying.

Looks like another job for our man of @steele.

i can send and receive int'l text on my sun sim. Wala bang YM sa K700i?Para tipid ka.

@drewmae
Since you have used the same Sun sim on your 7610, i dont think it's the gprs activation. it's either phone compatability or there is something wrong in your settings. But normally if the Mall doesn't have any OTA configuration for 6630,you should be able to do a manual configuration.
It's true that CSRs doesn't know about internet browsing using sun gprs for it's still on testing stage. I can probably ask my friend re your concern. You can pm me your number so i can have it checked.

You're very lucky with your sim

I can chat on YM using the K700i but only thru cMessenger which is more suited to J2ME MIDP 1.0. The archive feature is lost when I use it on the K700i. TipicMe crashes on the K700i, regardless of version. IMic and x-Messenger currently don't support YM.

My "K700i" is, I think, really a K700c! There are Chinese characters on the keypad, and therefore My Friends is missing!

IM app dev't for J2ME MIDP 2.0 is still in its infancy, I guess. I hope developers out there give it some proper attention, and not concentrate on just Symbian.

YM has closed down its WAP site, probably to push the use of its SMS variant, which is expensive at Php2.50/send on Globe or Smart.

Besides, IM is more for leisurely chatting and SMS for urgent messaging. I think they're complementary and not competing technologies, and we need them both.

@steele, that's great news! :-D If others were of the same mind as me your friend will be treated like royalty here :-) However my gprs still isn't working. Maybe the Sun technical staff have too much in their hands. :-(

i work in a company where we make sure that the real boss is the customer. I think their problem is purely PROCEDURAL and not technical. There's always a way to improve Service Levels and Turn Over time for customer concerns.
Anyway let me make a follow up on your case on Monday.

@steele Bro, you really go out of your way to help, bless you! Strong words there for the Sun people (procedural vs technical) but i'm afraid no one's listening in the head office. I think they'll always see gprs as a "fringe" service, and to hell with those who complain. I'm using a new sim now. :-(
