Yeah, I appreciated that it's not going to be the most powerful and will probably but eclipsed by SGS3 and LG variants coming out soon, but for me it's a really progression for Sony, each phone is getting better, although I am a little unnervey of the iPhone approach they seem to be taking (non removable battery and mem, standard designed phones as seen in the Xperia U). Yes, I am disappointed the camera is not better and the phone has gained some bulk and weight, but the screen is looking gorgeous.
I don't hate the SGSII, I think is it very good - the cam is top notch and I would say still better than Xperia S, it's also a pity it took SE/Sony a year to get there phones up to the slickness of the SGSII. |

The only things the Galaxy Note and S2 visibly have over the XS are bigger AMOLED screens. Over-saturated colours and wide-angle viewing ftw. Oh, and the Note is getting some mixed reviews. Some love it, some hate it. Also, TouchWiz is a horrible iOS knock-off.
The Xperia S, on the other hand, has been getting pretty positive comments. Let's see what the reviews have to say in the coming weeks.

Actually iphone4s is the most powerful phone until the quadcores come out. Also I would like to know how xperia s falls behind note and s2 other than the gpu?

Other than GPU?
It supports faster HSPA+ Speeds (21mbps)
Camera gives better results it seems
HDMI via MHL
USB-OTG
Support for 1080P video in the web browser
Micro SD slot that takes upto 64GB on top of 16GB
And possibly better performance going by some of the videos ive seen, so better tailoring of HW to the SW.
Support for Avi/divx/xvid/mkv etc...out the box with video acceleration
etc...

I'm still giving it a meh.
I'm probably hating too much on the design and TouchWiz.

USB otg is a feature of android not exclusive or limited to s2, xperia s also supports that.( i have seen a demo of usb otg on xs by head of sony ericsson middle east, but cant find the link.)
I am not sure how you made comparisons already b/w s and s2 when the module is supplied by sony for both and one is not even released.
Both have hdmi, and both can be controlled by remote , s2 does have plus point here tho.
1080p can be played on htc sensation xe as well, i see no reason why a dual core phone cant support 1080p video and I think 1080p video is pointless on a 4.3" 720p screen or 480X800 unless your going to pause the videos and do zooming?
I think you might remember how buggy it was when s2 launched, so comparing pre retail firmware to a mature one is not something i do, however i see s booting much faster than s2.
Thanks for reminding me about the avi,mkv support by s2, i do hate that is stuck on mpeg4 and 3gp! I think they should support it by default.
Lastly, the memory usage depends from person to person, not everyone wants to have 80gb , otherwise no one would be getting a 16gb iphone or an 8gb ipodtouch. Although I am with you on this point , xs should have had expandable memory too.

WRT 1080P, I was talking about the Web browser, the GS2 and Note are the only phones capable of doing 1080P Flash and HTML5 in their browser, while Snapdragon dual-cores struggle with 720P, this is useful when viewing web browser via HDMI.
WRT how im comparing them ive said i'll wait til final release FW and see, but from what ive seen it isnt that fast through the UI.

I too am talking about flash videos! Arc s itself is capable of watching 720p flash videos, also sensation xe can play 1080p, but not as smooth as s2. I think its more of software problem than hardware, I would like to see how they perform after ics. Either way both are pretty capable phones. My gripe with xs is the gpu and lack of video formats...

Man, some of you are an insatiable and picky lot. Dude how often are you planning on rebooting your Xperia anyway - to "enjoy" the boot up screen?! Personally I'd rather be USING the Xperia to its fullest than to even care or notice what the boot up screen is!! Heck unless it flashes a hot women with bouncing breasts or spread eagle & singing any nations national anthem, I could care less if it even flipped me the bird!
Eh, don't try and put me in a bracket. I'm not picky at all, I love the UXP look of the S, if you'll notice this is my first criticism of the phone. Yes it may not be the make or brake feature but for people, but imo I find the one they have is just boring, from Sony I'd expect something better. There is something nice about turning it on and having a cool animation and I think the one Sony went for was just last minute. Its not being picky its just my bloody opinion!
Man .. I didn't have to put you in a bracket, you did that ALL by yourself!

^ the very FIRST and minimal experience you have on ANY smartphone, which lasts less than 30seconds and is forgotten for hours before you ever see it again (after 20x on a BB in 25days trust me NUTHING is that spectacular anymore to impress anyone for such a brief moment). THAT is being picky, like makeup on a pig its still a pig no matter how you want to word it. neither of us have this in our hands and you're being critical of the smallest, slightest, simplistic detail?! That's like gang-banging on Smarties for copying M&M's!!
At least Bonovox is complaining about something worthwhile the picture quality which is a DAILY enjoyment factor & is the main focus of the target market; if it cannot deliver on pictures then its not worth it for Sony to compete in design alone. Yes its YOUR opinion and it'll stand ... but let your opinion stand for something of worth, that's all I'm saying ... find something better to pick about like/dislike about this phone before an official product ships and you/I own it.

I thought only the SGSIIX variant (and 1 other); not ALL support dual-band HSPA+ towers ... T-Mobile USA & Telus Mobility (Canada) are such telco's that have networks supporting this.
I wonder what kind of premium quality/design/feature set product Sony could make with Glass, Metal (Magnesium/Aluminum/?) and maybe a touch of the highest leather in just the right place and design, along with top notch specs in Screen resolution, clarity, brightness & peformance, bands & battery life, and the right marketing. Hmmm. Something like those hi-end Aiwa cassette walkmans in the late '80s, the HI-MD walkmans of the late 90's, I remember only Sony could make a yellow product look so cool with the 'Sony sports walkman lineup'. Ah nastalgia .. can this be done again Sony?!

I do wonder why people complain about what the box looks or start up screen or viewing angles. Seems petty.

You forgot one more .... the Xperia S is too thick (10.6 mm)
I'm more interested in what is in this "ugly" box ... I love my XminiP but the last time i looked at that box was on the day I bought it. |

As I've said I don't really have any other gripes with the phone. I actually think its great, the design is unique, the camera quality looks great and the UI is stunning. when you break up my comment it does look bad. it was really just a quick thought after watching the start up video. Maybe I'm not impressed with a 'minor' thing because I'm so impressed with everything else and would expect something like that to be good.
IMO the start up screen is the first thing you see and with SE's start up looks really good and premium. You might not think its important but it is. Why do you think manufacturers use a start up screen why not just have it black? and why are branded handsets used their operator logo? there must be something it gives to the user, maybe subliminally... anyway I just think from Sony I'd expect something better
As for screen angles bono I used to agree until you try showing photos to friends the people sitting at the worst angle get a shitty view
