Strange that some P800s come without the wrist strap... hmm... maybe it was like that time with the T28, where some had the belt clip, others didn't... maybe it's just an inventory glitch... I'm guessing those that came without the strap were earlier units...shipped before they decided to add the strap.

@rotavap- wow, 1st week of May, huh? I placed my order last April 14 pa and they informed me na baka this week or the next pa yung delivery. Oh well...I'll just have to wait and see. So, I don't have the unit yet. It was just the customer rep who told me about what the kit will contain (or won't contain) I'll call them again tomorrow. Thanks for the info.

@vwbeetle- thanks! I will make sure to let you know if they attempt to rip me off.

Will definitely keep all your posts in mind. I don't really know why the customer rep would say something like this, really. I even called again and went through the list of contents of the P800 from the brochure I got from SE just to make sure. They kept insisting that they don't include accessories. Now, it's either they're really trying to rip me off or they have incompetent customer service reps. Phoooey.

To any P800 Smart user/subscriber:

How is the GPRS service of Smart?

I am currently a Globe subscriber and is planning to switch to Smart's Addict package (they have a very good package there, SMS/MMS/Downloads/GPRS all lumped in one Maximum Monthly Allocation of an average of P 500 + free mins for voice). With the same monthly payment of P 1K+ I get a free phone I can give to my daughter.

Thanks in advance.

To Globe users/subscribers:

I have not visited this forum for a while, I would just like a confirmation. Did Globe block access to TipicMe server in their free APN (www.globe.com.ph) and also access to pop mail servers? I used to be able to access them. This is what I feared before, if you all remember. So now, is www.globe.com.ph limited to purely WAP sites?
Does anyone here still able to access the mentioned servers?

Please give your feedback.

@terrible,
the apn www.globe.com.ph only works for wap sites.
you'll need to use the internet apn for java msn, tipicme, and the like.

@chris725,
when did you guys get your p800s? and what was the firmware version when you got it?
not another triangle of death!!

@CyberRay:

Thanks a lot for the info on Smart's GPRS.

Any other Smart user/subscriber?

@Tr1xt3r:

I would'nt want to correct you but the reason why I said BLOCK is because I had been using www.globe.com.ph to access my POP e-mail every 15 minutes, connect to the TipicMe server from start of day till sundown and chat (FOR FREE), and update my Currency exchange rates daily since January of this year when I got my P800 until about three (3) weeks ago. If you did not use the free service, then I am sorry, you missed the fun and what you said isn't true then. You should have seen the kilobytes I used to rack up using www.globe.com.ph in my bills.

The only times I had to use internet.globe.com.ph and get charged by Globe: 1) connect my P800 as a wireless modem thru either bluetooth or infrared to browse the internet using either my laptop or desktop. 2) use my P800 Opera browser to browse the Web using my P800.

I hope I enlightened you there. Thanks anyway.
*****************************************************

If Globe BLOCKED the access, I would not be surprised. In fact I already raised this concern to fellow P800 users in the Philippines a few months ago when the Opera browser was just about to be released. We were sooooo lucky then. Racking up on free kilobytes huh. For this reason, Smart suddenly became very attractive with their ADDICT package which lumps all charges for SMS/MMS/GPRS in one Maximum Consumable Allocation (monthly at an average of 500 pesos for all plans).

@terrible

i was a globe user for 7 years and recently switched to smart because of the addict plans. haven't really done any mms so i can't tell you how that works. besides most people i know are on globe so i will just have to wait until there is mms interoperability.

but who cares about mms? in the meantime, i can just email it to them! gprs (both wap and web) work really great! connections seem a little quicker and more stable/reliable than globe's. plus, i can finally access the net when i go to the beach, and i don't worry much about cost since i have a pretty good sized consumable amount!

so do i miss globe at all? not one bit!!!

@senninha:

Thank you very much for the feedback you gave. Your feedback made me reach an easy decision, especially coming from a former Globe user (7 loyal years). I too, am a loyal Globe subscriber. I started using Globe 1993. In fact I still have my Founding Member SIM card. In spite of that though, I would not have second thoughts about shifting to Smart, more so with their quality of service now, it sucks. I even coined a new slogan for Globe: Globe. Making great things possible. Making small things difficult.

Thanks again. I forgot to mention the new free phone I would be getting from Addict.

Well, I have to admit, Smart's Addict packages are a lot better than Globe's... but Smart's WAP is also paid access...so even for something as simple as movie skeds, you'll have to pay.

Since Globe started charging for internet access, and kep their WAP access free... this is what I've worked out on my P800:

-PDI, CNN, Esato This is where most of my GPRS kb goes anyway! & myGlobe are still free...as are thousands of personal WAP sites (mine included) are still accessible via Globe's FREE gateway... the myGlobe WAP site is useful for movie sked, news, and pictures, themes and ringtones...all still free.

-The few times that I REALLY,REALLY need to check my email, or chat with someone on MSN...I'll use the paid gateway... speed is incredibly fast since very few people use it now...

-For my P500 on Globe, I get 40 min, 135 SMS, 400kb internet access, unlimited WAP access (I can still access my Yahoo email from here BTW) ... so unless the regular need arises that I surf by the MB every month, I'll stick to Globe... WAP access is becoming more useful... and you'll be surprised at how useful Google WAP is!!! And the few months that I did go over 400kb on the Internet, it was still affordable anyway.

Personal note: I think both Globe and Smart should come up with unlimited data accounts... very few people have GPRS enabled phones (and know how to use them anyway)... so why not offer unlimited data? Something like P2,000/month ... it would be like getting a wireless internet provider!

wap is the 'language' for the mobile internet, or internet for mobile phones, just like html is the 'language' for the web.

gprs is just a faster means to connect to the internet, compared to the normal gsm dial-up service. also, gsm dial-up is billed on a per minute basis while gprs billing is based on data packets transmitted.
