I wish SE would add the following feature which would be really useful. I would like to use the media button above the jog dial to start voice recording. It's really a pity that we are not allowed to assign a program of our choice to the media and internet buttons, it would have made such a difference.
P990i: A mistake, a curse and a disgrace So I lowered my expectations and settled for a P1i. I couldn't keep my expectations so low for a long time so now I have an HTC Touch HD |

As you guy's may know I have had my P990I for about 5 day's now and I thought I would share my thoughts on it.
It's on Orange UK and so has the Orange interface which I love and find really useful. I find the whole UIQ interface VERY easy to use. I was VERY surprised by this as I was expecting it to be fiddly and complicated but it's not.
I can and have used the QWERTY keyboard which I also thought would be too small for my fat thumbs but isn't. I am still learning how to text and enter numbers when the predictive text is on, but then again I haven't looked at the instructions yet!!!!
The internet works fine especially when in a 3G reception area, it's faster then my home broadband. I also unlike some can easily use the phone one handed and fail to see how people can't, but this is in flip closed mode, I picked it up in not time.
I don't use active sync or Black Berry stuff so deleted both these programmes from the phones memory and got 2MB extra ram. I don't use Swiss Tools but the phone hasn't rebooted yet and I doubt I will ever be a big enough power user to require Swiss Tools. I plan to use my P990I for SatNav on occassions, games, notes and reminders in the calender (Hence the purchase of the P990I with a keyboard). I will use the camera and will watch films on it and play music on it.
Overall I am REALLY REALLY REALLY impressed by it. The menus and options are clear and easy to understand and the whole OS is very easy to use, I am VERY glad I have got this over a windows mobile as it looks so superior and much clearer. The OS can be a bit slow at times but so far nothing very painful and I've no doubt the speed will improve with firmware updates. The phone isn't too big either, bigger then the M600I sure but worth it for the camera and larger screen and flip normal keypad, it's certainly not a huge brick (I have big hands though).
I especially LOVE the quick and easy flip switch for locking the keys with the detail that going into flip open mode activates the touchscreen automatically and unlocks the key's, brilliant.
The reception is fantastic, MUCH better then my K750I, in my workplace the K750 could never get reception indoors but my P990 can easily!! It also feels like a nice quality piece of kit, very light but solid and well made. The battery life so far isn't too bad. I got the 950mah battery and have switched off 3G, so it only goes down when using the phone, if I leave it overnight it goes down by 1 or 2% if any. It'll last me 2 day's easily and definetly 1 day with my heavy usage between charges.
So for me I made the right choice, it will do everything I need and want with ease and without complication. I am VERY happy with it and urge anyone thinking of buying a smart phone to look at it, ignore all the negative things people are saying as so far I haven't found any and love it. It is a phone that should be proud to sit at the very top of the SE range.

hi guys i just got my new p990i because my last p990i is robbed. well my new phone seems to work just fine like my old p990i but i didn't get the new firmware. I really love this phone that's why i bought a new one even though someone are not satisfied with its performance. Well i'm satisfied with it and just the RAM what is my problem and hope the R4 will be released later... |

I'm wondering if anyone else is getting crashes when trying to scrub video. I really wish there were FF and RW buttons for the video player. Or am I missing something. Inevitably if I try to scrub a video it freezes and I have to manual reset (ie pop out the battery). |

I am glad you can play with P990 beauty again. Can imagine the feeling when you lost it. My ex P910 was dead at one point and it was so hard experience to use my wife's no touch screen phone a few days until I fix mine. Now with p990 it would be hard to go back to P910 not to speak of something else. |

To turn off the phone after a crash hold the power button down for 10 seconds. |

Just use M3 to encode video files (there is a thread here where you can download it) and your problem is solved. Even if video is 300 mb heavy you can go to any time point. You will wait a few second (10-15) and it will start from chosen point. |

Yes there are so many differences from p910i to p990i. I just love the way the p990i makes my life very easy(even more easy if the RAM is laready fixed). I'm so lucky to get a new phone again without any problem aside form RAM ofcourse.. |

I'm on a mac... It's an intel machine and I'm trying to get it going through parallels but acessing files is a pain. What's it doing that so specific? |

It's an amazing video files converter, but best to see yourself.

You can remove these icons from your flip closed screen. The difference you'll have then with the flip off is that there won't be any icon at all on your screen. just like on any simple mobiles. |

I can officially say the P990I is a tough little beast. I have now managed to drop it twice on my bedroom carpet!!!!!!! Man I must be more carefull. Anyway not a scratch that I can see and still ticking fine. I think I'm subconciosly (Is that how you spell it?) expecting it to be heavier then it is when I pick it up due to it's size. |
