See, Sony is a big-ass company with an R&D team that knows things a lot better than those tech bloggers. |

VA are way better than TN, VA has better black and contrast than IPS
VA of sony can get to 178' degrees on angle... in real life it will get to 170-160.. so its quiet good
its all about what do you prefer, deeper blacks? go to VA
better extreme viewing angels? IPS |

It’s a really great screen. Sony have put the time and effort into it, and I put it amongst the best on the market. However, it’s not quite there still.
I would be over the moon with it had I not I put my OPPO Find 5 next to it. The viewing angles aren’t quite as good as the OPPO (although far better than the Z), and for ultimate crispness the Sony just loses out.
Considering that I rate the OPPO Find 5′s screen as the best I’ve ever used, I was setting the bar high. The Sony will, however, give the Samsung Galaxy S4 a run for its money, with only the extreme viewing angles letting it down."

are you serious, the Z1 makes the S4 look like a 12 month old device never mind 2 month, nothing will come close to the Z1 until 2014 and even then it will likely be another Sony - there is no other device on the market that matches the Z1 in every respect - yes some have the S800 and 330 hardware but as a whole package it in unequalled

What about LG G2? Has slightly better hardware, bigger and better screen on smaller size phone, probably better camera (will have to wait with this for proper review, but G2 camera is really good, and has OIS), 1080p@60fps. Prctically everything is better, only advantage Sony has is IP55/58 waterproof, SD Card and maybe a slightly better camera, maybe(I give 30% that Honami camera quality is better than G2).
Edit: correction on camera, Z1 ofc has better and bigger camera sensor (1/2.3"), but Sony post-processing will probably ruint it's potential, as we've seen on Z and T.

I was just quoting the article... tbhe S4 is clearly beaten on every aspect this time ..
The LG G2 is a great phone... the screen is clearly better... it's a par with the Hardware, the camera is REALLY good and has OIS... but I still firmly believe that the Z1 will be superior...! Design wise is worse, the Z1 is a pure beauty, and I have tried the button on the back but I really find them annoying...
All in all I consider the Z1 superior (even with some minus), for me Build quality and IP 55/58 are strong point... way stronger than a 0.2 bigger screen or a 0.1 more powerfull CPU...
EDIT: also there's a big pros for the Z1 on the UI (IMHO)... it's way classier and snappier... I love it It's the only OEM UI I like because it's the only one that remains true to the Nexus spirit...
(Thanks dominstry for the reminder)

why aren't sony using IPS with triluminos? isn't IPS the highest quality of LCD's with also the best viewing angles?
there is always room for improvements.

well no, if you took the time to read on this forum and generally on the web you would find that IPS is actually inferior were it matters - That's why all the top TV screens from the likes of Sony Panasonic and Samsung do not use IPS
Do your own research and come back and tell us what you would prefer in your Z1 - if you have a brain cell or 3 to work with it won't be IPS - one of the complaints about the ZU was the black levels especially in low light conditions - IPS |

fair enough, i'll do a bit more research. considering what you say is true, VA is better when you look straight at the screen - which will happen most of the times. IPS is better in viewing angles. so how can sony improve even more on the current screen? what is going to be the successor of VA+triluminos? better type of VA that will also improve viewing angles? are they working on improved panel or will the Z2 have the exact same panel quality as Z1? i know it's a bit off topic, but i'm really curious... |

I have to agree as I just bought one - and remember the Z1 is still not on it's final FW, they rushed it to market but that's ok by me as it is already the best and is going to get better - how cool is that |

Don't forget the hardware design and UI!
Sony's UI looks classy and consistent, LG looks like a toy as well as a whole device.
And I presume Z1's camera will be much better.
The screens are pretty much the same quality.

I really don't know why Sony just can't seem to get their screen's 100% right. Most reviewers are saying the screen is good, but not quite as good as the One. On top of that, why does a phone with a 3000 mah battery and 5 inch screen only offer 6.5 hours of video play back? Samsung with their 5.65 inch screen and 3200 mah battery are claiming nearly 15 hours of video play back. That disparity is ridiculous! They're clearly doing something wrong.
